I truly enjoyed this book (REALLY ENJOYED), I was kindly sent this book for review purchases and I have to admit, it’s not the normal book I would reach for but I’m so glad I did.

About the book :

Feisty Tabatha, a struggling artist, and Milt, an awkward science professor, set off on a journey to the future. What was supposed to be fun soon turns into something intense when the make discoveries about their future selves and end up on other “detours”. The two set events into action that may save one life, yet destroy another. Can these friends of completely different mindsets agree on a course of action? Can Tabatha stick to Milt’s rules of time travel? Both Milt and Tabatha struggle to…

#WeekendCoffeeShare. Ah, Summer! Goals and Plans

Welcome to my Weekend Coffee Share, hosted by Emily at nerdinthebrain.com.  It goes like this:  If we were having coffee today on the 17th of June, I’d tell you:

*Summer is truly a time to renew and catch up!  I’m promising myself I’ll go to yoga twice a week.  There are so many kinks in my shoulders, and I’ve totally fallen off the exercise wagon.  So far, I am meeting my twice a week goal.  In fact, I wrote about it, in my imagining of “Yoga” as a deep-voiced, patient man who always leaves the door open and keeps me going back.  Find it at   https://pamelascanepa.wordpress.com/2017/06/11/if-yoga-were-a-guy-my-exercise-evolution-contd/  I’ve also been to the beach for a relaxing day that was great until I later discovered the spots I’d neglected when I applied sunscreen.  Forida sun= great potential for pain.

*I have been busy, though.  I have a new sci-fi book release, Detours in Time, that came out on 6/16, Woohoo!  I’ve been trying to do the prep work to get this one seen before it drops.  This means I’ve put it up for pre-order, contacted endless book reviewers and bloggers, and I’ve gotten several who offered to do an interview or spotlight on their blog, with just a few who can review my book at this time.  At any rate, I have a busy schedule of blog appearances for June, and July is getting planned right now; I think there are three.  Maybe I’ll take a little getaway in July?  One more thing I’ve done is contact many in the Goodreads and Library Thing community in the hopes of gathering reviews that way.  If you haven’t yet discovered Library Thing, check it out at librarything.com.  I’m not totally sure if it is only in the U.S., but do check it out.  You can also Google Library Thing for authors to find out how it could help you as an author.  Visibility is my aim right now, because the hope is that this will motivate people to buy my book.

[image error] Graphic by Kat Mellon, who also did my cover.  I got this graphic printed through Vistaprint as postcards, and I’m leaving them in random places all over town. Visibility!

New Release! #scifi novel, Detours in Time

Today is the day!  Detours in Time, my most recent novel, is now live and available for purchase at Amazon.com for Kindle, Kindle Unlimited, and in paperback!  Please check it out,  purchase the book, read it, or add it to your Goodreads Want to Read or Currently Reading shelf if you decide to purchase or even just want to read it later.  If you read the book, please leave a review, no matter how brief, on Amazon and consider sharing it on social media.  Perhaps you might share this post on your social media?  All of these things help me gain visibility as an indie author and are greatly appreciated!

Goodreads link:

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/35261459-detours-in-time-1

Amazon link:

Independently Published.

Genre:  Sci-fi, time-travel/adventure   221 pages (e-book), 301 pages (paperback)

Read the book that early readers have called “Captivating!”  Here is a blurb:

On a whim, feisty Tabatha takes a trip to the future with Milt, an awkward science professor. The supposed fun trip turns intense and presents some moral dilemmas when they make discoveries about their future selves and learn that while their actions may save one life, they could destroy another. Amid the turmoil, the two must decide if their actions have drastically altered the lives of the people they have met.  Can Milt and Tabatha agree on a course of action?

Teaser:

“He was twenty years her senior, but from his childlike curiosity and goofy sense of humor, one wouldn’t know it, and they got along very well.  Of course, traveling back in time and meeting his twenty-two-year-old-self did not help matters for Pinky at all. ”

If Yoga Were a Guy… (My Exercise Evolution cont’d)

It’s been over a month.  I don’t know why, but I let stressful times keep me away when there are crises in my family and stress at work.  Then my shoulders get all these knots.  I really shouldn’t stay away.  Yet, coming back is a sweet homecoming.  The music and the essential oils beckon me and make me feel welcome.  Despite my tense body, I never feel guilt.  So I imagine yoga is this sweet guy with a Barry White voice, telling me, “Hey babe, the door’s always open.  So glad you’re here.  You’ll be glad you came back.”

Let me honest, I have no idea what he’d look like, except that he’d be fit and his hair would be out of his eyes.  He’d be wearing a light colored short-sleeved t-shirt, and yoga pants.  Okay, maybe not yoga pants, but those long, lightweight pants that yogis wear.  If yoga were a guy, he would:

*Not notice the few pounds I’ve  gained

*Not state the obvious, that my muscles would not be so tense if I just made sure to show up even during the taxing times, and I would not have gotten sick if I used the yoga to help me destress and stay healthy

*Play a lot of Dave Matthews, you know, for atmosphere.  That, and whatever else he seems to play that relaxes me so.

*Keep those candles lit and the lights dim.  Let’s not make it obvious how off-balance I am. Instead, he’d:

*Lend me a hand for balance when I need it.  Bring me an extra block without saying anything or pointing me out

*Let me linger a little while after savanas.  That’s right.  He wouldn’t kick me out, because he’d understand that I don’t just come here to whip my butt into shape, I come here to escape the outside.

*Invite me to come back in a few days or say something that makes me want to be more of a regular, not because I feel guilty, but because it feels SO good being here.

Truth be told, most of my instructors are female.  However, yoga is neither male nor female.  So I can imagine it any way I want.  What’s most important is that I keep going back.

Of rocks, trees and aliens

Though I’ve no time to write this week, I can jump for joy that my photo was chosen for this week’s prompt! I like what Yarnspinnerr did with it.

Yarnspinnerr

Prompt  ….

Thank you  Pamela S. Canepa for this week’s photo prompt.

Long time ago I read a SF tale about visitors from a distant planet. They came to Earth and their spaceship lands in the middle of a forest. The aliens talked with the trees of the forest, and then leave – happy that the people care for their environment.

This prompt makes me wonder – what if they had talked with the rocks too. I am sure they would have left highly dissatisfied. The rocks would have told them how their population was fast dwindling; how they are carted off to be crushed and used as sand for unbridled construction activities. They would have told how in their absence the trees lose roots and how the water from upper-ranges drowns the forest during monsoon. They would also tell how a multitude of small creatures that help in maintaining…

#WeekendCoffeeShare The Switch-over

[image error] I think this photo has a Kerouac feel to it.  (Found on Pixabay)

Welcome, members of the blogosphere, to my #WeekendCoffeeShare!  If we were having coffee today, I’d tell you that:

I am starting to feel the shift, that shift from my school year frame of mind to my summer frame of mind.  This used to mean something different, but now what it means is that I’ll be living in the blogosphere a bit more, writing more, and talking about my self-published books a bit more.  I have two months to eat, sleep, and breathe this stuff, and let me tell you, I love living in this world of words!

And why not?  Reality is stressful enough.  I’ve had a few family crises.  One involved a loved one getting a broken arm and shoulder in a freak slip-up, the other involving a loved one needing a medication adjustment, and all of the lead up to that decision which implies many sleepless, worrisome nights wondering why this person isn’t sleeping, and days of debating how I could make them eat.  I’ve been lax about reading the book, I’m Not Sick, I Don’t Need Help, since I’ve been reading and writing so much of my own, but I glean little helpful bits here and there.  Such as:  “…no amount of arguing has previously changed your lvoed one’s opinion about being mentally ill….The first step, therefore, is to stop arguing and start listening.”  So, when said loved one made a seriously off the wall statement, I said, “Would you like me to take you somewhere to get help.”  To which I recieved an affirmative nod.  Sometimes you have to fish for an answer, but it’s worth it.  Sometimes you have to listen to the silence as well.  I think things are looking up now.  It’s all been hectic, though.  I don’t write about this in detail because I am just not ready, and it’s not fully my story to tell.

Which leads to my love for escaping reality.  I won’t lie; reality seeps into my imaginative machinations, and I let it.  Perhaps this gives my writing meaning.   I haven’t been doing enough flash fiction challenges, so I look forward to more of that this summer.  They are great for gathering followers and following new bloggers.  I’ve been editing my novel, Detours in Time,  for publication this summer, shopping for fitting online graphics (Kat Mellon is wonderful, by the way.  Find her online), and looking for images and ideas to fuel my online Facebook launch of my novel.  It takes place on 6/16, the release date.  I encourage you to follow my author Facebook and join the event! See https://www.facebook.com/pamelacanepablog/ and join it just for fun.  I am trying to make it interesting, and my book trailer should be ready by then.  It’s been fun searching for just the right visuals.

On the subject of escape, I’ve been reading and reviewing a lot of books, the most recent are Letters to Eloise and Fail to the Chief.  The first: contemporary fiction of a mother-to-be and her drama with the father of her child, told in letters, love letters, letters to her unborn child, etc.  It values the written word and takes place in a time before texting and social media ruled our lives.  Very heart-warming.  Fail to the Chief was political satire and I thoroughly enjoyed it.  It pokes fun at political candidates, and since I think none of them can be trusted, I loved this book.  On the subject of reviews, I’ve been trying to send out my new manuscript Advanced Review Copies to a few blogger/reviewers and only had a few respond saying they’ll review it.  Many of these sites are “Not currently accepting submissions” and overall, backlogged.  Well, I can certainly say I tried!

That sums it up, mostly.  School’s out.  I just need to clean my classroom next week.  Then, I’m free for the summer!  We had a great faculty get-together with lunch and I got to play laster tag for the first time.  I’m looking forward to reading, writing, reviewing, seeking reviews, searching for ways to promote and represent my upcoming novel.   Maybe I’ll get one or two little summer getaways. It’s EXCITING!  Life is good.  Not easy, but good.

*Weekend Coffeeshare is hosted by Emily at nerdinthebrain.com, so hop on over there and see some of her shares, won’t you?  You may decide to create your own.  I’ve rambled about myself enough today.  I’m off to see what others are up to!

Meet Guest Author Pamela S. Canepa…

Chris The Story Reading Ape's Blog

I’m Different and I Like it…But then again, aren’t we all?

I started writing when I was a kid. We moved to Florida from Virginia, and I wrote about some of the new, odd things I saw, like a lizard and palm trees. I seemed to have an imagination, too. At age eight, I wrote a story about finding a dinosaur in my uncle’s barn. He and everyone else in my family got quite a kick out of that. There was also a story about a talking horse that warned its owner about a man she was going to marry. I set up chapters, but never finished it.

Poetry was my outlet for venting through adolescence. I never showed most of those poems to anyone, until my friend asked to read one of my poems to her class as an assignment. She said it made one girl cry, and that’s…

FFfAW: A New Alliance, Flash Fiction

Photo credit:  Louise at Storyteller’s Abode

She walked over and Henry bristled.  “I’m here to be alone,” he said, curtly.

“Oh, I’ll just have a seat.  You won’t bite.  I can tell. Your body language says it all.”  She set down her huge bag and sat, carefully holding her dress down.  “You’re definitely overdressed.”

“So are you,” Henry said, realizing he’d been sized up.  He moved his equally stuffed bag to the other side.

“How long since you cut yourself loose of your chains?” She asked.

“A year,” Henry replied, smiling.  He thought he’d figured her out.  “How about you?  A pretty young woman, walking the beach, overstuffed bag.  Do you sleep here?”

“Do I look crumpled and wrinkly? Of course not.  This is how I pass the days.  Two years.”

“Sorry, no offense.”

“Okay.  Are you free for lunch?”  She replied.

“Why not?”

Two years and twenty beaches later, Henry was still wandering the shores with Kaitlynn.
