My first poem was about Swiss cheese and was written when I was in the third grade. I even included an illustration (forced to draw, not just write) of a white (therefore invisible) block with circles to show my true love of all things cheese.

I have grown as a poet and writer since then and now include poems on life, death, hurt, joy, tears, laughter and overall human experiences as I have experienced them or as I have seen others experience them. There are only a handful of poems about specific people. The rest, though specific they may seem, are about many different people I have met, or just about general situations. I write with a political lens as I am bisexual, Jewish, a cis-woman who is very femme and has also struggled with debilita

Kahlil Gibran
“The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain.
Is not the cup that holds your wine the very cup that was burned in the potter's oven?
And is not the lute that soothes your spirit, the very wood that was hollowed with knives?
When you are joyous, look deep into your heart and you shall find it is only that which has given you sorrow that is giving you joy.
When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight.”
Kahlil Gibran

Elizabeth Gilbert
“Happiness is the consequence of personal effort. You fight for it, strive for it, insist upon it, and sometimes even travel around the world looking for it. You have to participate relentlessly in the manifestations of your own blessings. And once you have achieved a state of happiness, you must never become lax about maintaining it. You must make a mighty effort to keep swimming upward into that happiness forever, to stay afloat on top of it.”
Elizabeth Gilbert, Eat, Pray, Love

Mitch Albom
“Death ends a life, not a relationship.”
Mitch Albom, Tuesdays with Morrie: An Old Man, a Young Man, and Life's Greatest Lesson

Mitch Albom
“All endings are also beginnings. We just don't know it at the time.”
Mitch Albom, The Five People You Meet in Heaven

Audrey Niffenegger
“But you make me happy. It's living up to being happy that's the difficult part.”
Audrey Niffenegger, The Time Traveler's Wife
