gentility and toughness: A fine balance

In a world where we are fighting with our all strengthtocarve out a niche, our bodies bear the burdens of early morning and late nights. A healthy body is what keeps us going through the countless ups and downs in our professional and personal lives, helping us to wake up early for a jog and then burn the midnight oil to finish assignments. Thus, the benefits of possessing a sound body and capable immunity can never be understated. It is imperative we develop a certain toughnesswhich is the s...

What Lies Within and Beyond? And A Happy Balance!

Let the magnitude of the following sentence permeate your consciousness.

We know that we are not just our body.

Yes, our physical aspect is only a percentage of our lives, even less than a quarter. Then what makes for the total composition? Our life comprises of internal and external dimensionswhich constitute a being and regulate the course of our lives. You and the Great, Big Universe

Despite the brutally existentialist nature of this question, ask yourself who am I?You are a child, sibling, spouse, parent and friend. You perform each role with love and sincerity. But have you wondered what purpose we serve in the context of this vast universe? How could we possibly contribute to the greater good of humanity? Will the winds of time carry the word of your deeds across generations?

Before we get caught up pondering on the answers, let us understand the prerequisites for compr...

God Proposes, Man Disposes – An Inverted Truth

“Homo proponit, sed Deus disponit” or, Man Proposes but God Disposes;quite a common saying, isn’t it?  A frequent justification for what went wrong; very age-old reasoning. We seek comfortable refuge in the understanding that a divine power is directing our ways. There is a greater hand; a higher power which is at work and the human agency is subservient to that power. The proverb can be traced back to the 1400s, in an insightful Latin devotional work, Of the Imitation of Christ. The author...

Every life – a masterpiece

At the very outset, Dr Ajay Shesh expresses his heartfelt gratitude to the many great authors and thinkers whose works have been instrumental in the quest for understanding his calling. He believes that in a literary journey, there will be very few authors whose thoughts, the power of their written word and experiences will truly resonate in your heart and enrich your life. And his first book, “God Proposes, Man Disposes” desires to be that book for all.

An honest, wonderfully kind and empha...

PHYSICALLY LOST, ETHEREALLY GAINED

32629-4-sunflower-transparent-image

What actually happened?

Was it you, who, innocently entered,

or was it I, who, bound by emotion,

coerced you into my life?

The rest of my being

remains an eternal quest…

to find a semblance of an answer.

*

You – too young then to care,

Me – too young then to spare,

Time – too restless to just be there –

went about metamorphosing past to the present

and the present to the future.

I went about – too naïve to court or nurture

the fact that past and present live for the future.

*

Though you...

Roadside Philosophy – 6Sep16

Capturerally6 Sep. 2016 – Tuesday: 25 km non-stop cycling in rain today…!!! Want to increase my physical capacity to cycle 75 km in 5-6 hours. Also need to work on my slightly bulged tummy. Still not a patch on you, respected dear Dr SP Kalantri sir…; but watch this space!!! .

Today’s ride was a great leveller. What goes around – comes around. Today I cycled in rain on soiled country roads, and within half-way, was totally sodden with puddle water and muck by the passing trucks and even two wheelers who...

Ants and Spirituality

Ants feeding on sugar cube

I am not much of a religious fanatic. But a friend and well-wisher of mine firmly believed that feeding some sugar to ants every morning will appease Gods in some way, and will also be good for my astrological star-planet configuration. When he kept pleading for weeks, I decided to give in and try it out, if only to satisfy him. In our large backyard there is a corner where ants keep coming. So I took a large pinchful of sugar and sprinkled it in that area and forgot about it till the next m...
