The Sequel That Almost Wasn’t
[image error]
In writing as in life, everything sort of happens on its own time. Sometimes that time is by our own choosing. Oftentimes it is not.
The decade-plus-long path that I took to becoming a novelist was deliberate. It was a path of drafting, followed by years of letting the writing lie fallow, followed by a rewrite, a pitch for a certain novel, and a most unexpected phone call that led to a book contract.
But this story isn’t about that. This story is about what came later About how the Sarco tri...

Introducing: Launch Team Void
[image error]
The official release of Into the Void is not far off.
So once more, I’m recruiting a team — Launch Team Void — to help me lay the groundwork for February 6. Each member will be asked to make three commitments … and in turn receives three benefits.
The three commitments are:
Write a short review — good, bad, or ugly — on Amazon when the book releases. Help to spread the word on the book’s release (i.e. social media, blog, e-mail, shouting from the streets, etc.), especially on the days surro...November 27, 2017
State of the Writing: November 2017
Well, things are starting to get interesting again!
[image error]The plan is coming together.
First off, I’m excited to announce that one of my pieces of short fiction has been acquired by Havok Magazine for their January issue. Havok is a magazine devoted to science fiction and fantasy flash fiction, and their January theme is all about space opera. I won’t say much about the story except that I had a blast writing it. You’ll be able to read it in less than two months. A month after that, of course, is...November 20, 2017
From the Nintendojo Vault: My GameCube Story
I originally wrote this back in March of 2015 … but this is one example of where a comment eclipsed my original post.
Here is the comment first, followed by the post.
“Thanks for the great read Joshua.
“I lived in Japan from 2001 to 2004. I had the Gamecube pre-ordered at my favorite local gamestore in Fujisawa.
“On September 12th, I stopped into the store on my way home from work. The employee knew I was American and he expressed sympathy about the terrorist attacks in the US the day before...

Hope Colony is Now Available
So, in the spring of 2016, my debut novel, Edge of Oblivion, launched with Enclave Publishing. The second novel in the series, Into the Void, was due out in the spring of 2017, but because of circumstances out of my control it was delayed to February 2018.
With the extra time between books 1 and 2, I started thinking back to something.
During the editing process for Edge of Oblivion, my editor had suggested fleshing out the novel’s endgame. (No spoilers here, but for owners of the book, it’s...

The Orville and Star Trek: Discovery — A Tale of Two Heartbreaks
[image error]September of 2017 was a pretty interesting month for space opera. Two major networks, Fox and CBS, each rolled out a new big-budget science fiction series. The first, The Orville, is the brain-child of Family Guy and American Dad! creator Seth MacFarlane. The second, Star Trek: Discovery, is helmed by a mix of Trek veterans and newcomers, most notably Alex Kurtzman, part of the team behind the Star Trek reboots.
I watched the pilot episode for both shows. Now, it could be argued that pilots t...
