Need something to read this weekend?

Check out this new bundle that my friend AM Griffin is a part of. It’s called Brought to His Knees. RAWR!

Brought to his knees_3d_webThe Alpha male. Strong. In control. Letting no one and nothing rule him…until he meets the one, and all bets are off. The world tilts, the bed rocks, and suddenly that tough guy finds himself Brought to His Knees—in more ways than one.

This collection of ten hot to erotic novellas and one short erotic novel will take you on journeys of lust, love, and adventure, leave you breathless and quite possibly in need of a cold shower.

Here’s an excerpt from A.M.’s book Dark Wolf Enterprises.

Kristof is some kind of freak and he’s being attacked by wolves. She was god knows where with god knows who.

She could be killed out here and no one would know how to find her body.

Her gaze shifted to the cockpit door. They could kill her.

Flare gun.

She scrambled to the back of the plane and flung open the closet door. On the top shelf was the metal box Kristof had told her about. Grabbing it, she pulled the box down. The handle slipped in her sweaty palms and hit the floor with a crash. The contents spilled at her feet.

She spotted the flare gun immediately. Grabbing it, she ran back to her seat by the window and aimed the gun at the cockpit door.

While she waited for the pilots to come out, she continued to watch the fighting below. One of the wolves was down, leaving Kristof to fight the other two. She peered at the cockpit door. Still shut. Then back to Kristof. One of the others wolves was now limping badly.

Kristof snarled and grabbed the uninjured wolf by the neck and shook him. The wolf went limp and appeared to be more like a rag doll than anything else. Kristof stopped and opened his mouth. The wolf he held there fell to the ground in a lump. The only wolf left stood his ground. Both he and Kristof growled and circled each other until, finally, the injured wolf seemed to realize this was a losing fight and scampered off into the darkness.

Standing alone, Kristof let out a long howl at the night.

Trudy pressed her face to the glass and looked left to right, trying to see if she spotted any more of the other wolves.

Kristof ran off, to where she couldn’t see.

He’s leaving me.

The thought ripped through her mind. Then an instant later, another thought eased the first.

He’d never leave me. I belong to him.

She’d no time to pick apart the last thought because, on the next blink, Kristof—the wolf—was standing outside of her window—watching her.

She knew it was him and not some other wolf, she felt he was hers. Their eyes locked. A part of her wanted to shrink away under his stare, but the other…wanted to claim him.

The cockpit door creaked open and the pilot peered at her. Yelping she raised her gun and aimed. Screaming, he shut the door before she could fire off a shot.

“Come out here and I’ll kill you! Do you see what happened to your buddies?” Her hands shook as she aimed the gun.

She was going to die. There was a man-wolf killer outside and a pilot-kidnapper in here.

Another glance outside and Kristof stood, as a man, watching her. A naked man. A wonderfully naked man.

She shook her head.

Wolf-beast.

“Trudy. Open the hatch. I’m coming back up,” He yelled out to her.”

Was she supposed to let him back in? He hadn’t said that.

She chewed on her lower lip, waiting for an answer she couldn’t think of. If she opened the door would he attack her? Was he a rabid beast who couldn’t control himself?

She shook her head. “No. You said not to open the hatch.”

“I meant don’t open the hatch for them.”

“Since I know your secret are you going to kill me now?”

“Don’t be silly. It’s cold out here. Open the hatch.”

Should she let him back in?

“Are the pilots still alive?” he asked.

Her gaze shot back to the cockpit. “Yes. But not for long,” she yelled, loud enough for the pilots to hear.

“I’m naked and it’s about thirty degrees out here. Can you please let me in?”

“Wh-what about your super-human heating abilities? Aren’t you supposed to be so hot that’d you’d melt snow?”

He cocked his head to the side. “This is not a young adult story. I’m freezing my ass off.”

“If he kills me I’m going to be so pissed,” she mumbled to herself.

About the Books, The Authors and the Project

Brought to his knees_3d_web A.M. Griffin

Dark Wolf Enterprises

Murder, mayhem and imprinting with a hot wolf shifter… And they say being an accountant is boring.

Blurb:

The big break Trudy Hollander’s small accounting firm needs has finally arrived, but unfortunately it comes with murder, mayhem and Kristof Farkas, a man she just can’t seem to resist. Even worse, Kristof is the CFO of Dark Wolf Enterprises—the one person who can pull the plug on the job that will take her company to the next level.

And then there are the assassins who can jump from three stories up and still be able to run away…

Kristof has no intention of giving in to his inner wolf and claiming Trudy. She’s human. Too fragile to withstand being a shifter’s mate. But the need to protect her is stronger than his resolve, and his desire is more powerful yet. He’ll fight with everything he has to keep her safe, both from those who would hurt her, and from himself.

Amy Ruttan

Building Bridges

A vet tech and a lone wolf rancher ride out a sudden storm, but can they weather the emotions they stir up in each other…

Blurb:

Vet tech Molly has the hots for new rancher William, even though he’s ornery and a bit of a lone wolf. She’s willing to take a chance and enjoy a stolen moment of passion in his arms, but she’s having doubts about leaving everything she knows behind to follow her dream.

William has saved up for years to finally get his grandfather’s ranch up and running again. Escaping into the foothills of Alberta is a good place to hide from the ghosts of his past. All he wants is to be left alone, but that’s kind of hard when a sexy vet tech seems to be always around.

After a sudden storm during an Indian summer forces them indoors, the temperature inside the cabin begins to rise. William helps Molly see that her dream is worth pursuing while she shows him maybe he doesn’t have to be alone after all. As the temperature plummets William gives Molly one ride she’ll never forget.

Anya Richards

Three Strikes

Two lonely men. One secret affair. Irresistible passion that will push them both to the breaking point, and beyond.

Blurb:

A knife attack left ex-Jamaican Posse member Vincent Williams scarred and also made him re-evaluate his life. He’s out of the gang and also the closet but lonely, yet to meet a man who’s interested in more than a one-and-done, a brief sexual encounter.

Because of his career as a police officer, Sergeant Kyle Pictou is afraid of coming out. Normally he doesn’t play close to home, but something about Vincent compels him to take a chance. It’s just sex, after all. Yet, as desire evolves into friendship and seemingly boundless passion, it’s Kyle who’s left wanting more—though he knows he can’t have it.

Cynthia D’Alba

A Cowboy’s Seduction

One exhausted cowboy + One uptight account x A tropical resort = A hot seduction. But who is seducing whom?

Blurb:

Brock Wade has raised his brothers and sister since their parents’ deaths fourteen years ago. All work and no vacation can make a cowboy a tad grumpy, or at least that’s what his family and crew believe. Brock wants to spend the two weeks before Christmas working as usual. Instead he’s forced by his siblings to take a vacation to the Sand Castle Resort…a vacation he doesn’t want to a Caribbean resort he’s never heard of. He’s sure he’ll be miserable the whole time.

Natalie Diamond is dreaming of getting out of icy Memphis and down to her parents’ oceanfront condo for a couple of weeks of rest and warmth. When her parents accept an out-of-town invitation, she’s sure she’ll be stuck at home watching it sleet and snow. But instead of leaving Natalie shivering, her parents send her on an all-expense paid trip to the Sand Castle Resort.

A casual friendship over drinks rapidly evolves into a hot seduction, which is great until feelings get involved. When vacation is over, Brock and Natalie are forced to make the difficult decision to walk away or see where life might lead them.

But falling in love in two weeks isn’t possible. Right?

Danica Avet

Born to Sin

A tomboy in love makes a desperate attempt to seduce her best friend and succeeds beyond her wildest dreams. But this Alpha male isn’t easily tamed and has secrets that could very well tear them apart.

Blurb:

Just another one of the guys. That’s how Taylor Guillory has always been treated in her hometown of Grand Terre, Louisiana. And for the most part she never minded until Sinclair “Sin” Rivas opened up shop in town. With his dangerous eyes and legendary sex god status, Sin is so far out of her league, but that doesn’t stop Taylor from falling in love with the impossible man, or doing something so daring and unlike her for the chance to be with him.

Knowing he’s no good for her, Sin has stayed far away from Taylor since the day she walked into his shop, but when the little spitfire propositions him in the middle of the bar, there’s no way he’ll be able to walk away from the temptation. But his one-night only rule when it comes to women is challenged by the pleasure they experience, making him think that he might be a one-woman man after all.

But Sin has secrets that could very well destroy anything they forge together. Can a man born of sin find redemption in the arms of a woman just as tough as any man?

Felice Fox

The Sound of Your Name

Their silent erotic encounters change his luck and awaken his soul, but secrets and cowboy superstitions can only keep them apart.

Blurb:

Ellie Donovan couldn’t care less about pro bull riders, until she’s sent out on the circuit to do a story about them for Modern Luxury magazine. She’d done many things to get a great story, but pimping herself out to a cowboy who thinks she’s the only thing keeping him on track for the gold buckle isn’t one of them. Being sexy Brody’s good luck charm isn’t exactly a hardship—until she discovers she doesn’t want it to end.

Brody Cameron can’t help bowing to cowboy superstition on the night he should have lost his spot on the pro circuit, when a secret tryst with a pretty stranger changes his luck, and his heart, forever. Caught between the love he wants and the money his family needs, Brody can’t share the truth with Ellie and risk losing his shot at the big money.

But when Cameron family secrets are exposed, and a jealous rival threatens to tear them apart, can Ellie and Brody break their silence without breaking each other’s hearts?

Jennifer Kacey

Beneath the Pages

One wicked night with her did nothing but whet his appetite. Now he’ll settle for nothing less than her complete submission.

Blurb:

Acacia owns and runs Fame, one of the hottest celebrity magazines in the country. She survives on convincing the rich and famous to reveal things they would normally do anything to keep hidden. She lives, eats and breathes the magazine. Day in and day out. She has no life, nothing to keep in the dark. Nothing but the night she gave herself over to the one man she never should have wanted.

Radigan, the most sought after actor in Hollywood, wants her again, and won’t take no for an answer. He had her for one night. Several hours of the best sex of his entire life, but she was gone the next morning before the sun had fully risen. His attempts to contact her have gone unanswered. Everything he’s tried so far has been a miserable failure. But he finally knows what to do to slip beneath the pages of her heart.

This time he’s playing for keeps and the exclusive rights to her body, heart and soul.

Lynne Silver

Cruising for Love

A vacation cruise comes with surprises—like the BDSM theme and her high school love, the one man she can’t resist.

Blurb:

When Andi Greene heads out on a cruise, she’s pumped for a fun week of sun bathing and chilling with her best friend. Little does she know her best friend has a number of surprises in store. The first is the cruise’s theme of bondage and domination. The other? Ship’s doctor Jonah Coleman, Andi’s first love, her high school boyfriend—the boy she thought she’d marry before he moved across the country and eventually dropped her cold. But there’s nothing cold about their reunion. Instead sparks fly, and Andi’s relaxing cruise seems set to turn into a week of hot loving.

Jonah can’t believe he’s getting a second chance with Andi—a grown-up Andi who might need more than he knows how to give. But he’s willing to put everything on the line to find out if the heat between them is just the remnants of teenage love or something more. And even though he has to let her go again, he’s determined this time she’ll never forget him.

Sabrina York

Whipped

A scalding attraction. An irresistible passion. A pity she’s the one woman he can never have…

Blurb:

Dane Coulter is mourning the loss of his best friend, fellow Special Ops buddy, Cody. Oh, Cody didn’t die. It’s worse. He’s getting married. Cody is, in Dane’s opinion, whipped.

Dane swears he will never suffer the same fate. But when he meets a woman who can take all his dominant loving and beg for more, he realizes he may have met his match. It’s a damn shame she’s the one woman in the world his man-code deems untouchable…his best friend’s sister.

Sayde Grace

Chief Sin

A taste of Sin isn’t enough. Instead she wants all of him, including the heart she once broke.

Blurb:

Mavis Tanem has the world at her feet. She’s young, wealthy, and independent, yet none of that means anything. Years of seeking revenge against her father have left her cold and hard. There’s no place in her life for softness—for love. Yet when her brother goes missing she’s forced to go back to where it all started. And back to Bowie Sinet, the man she broke.

The devil was back in Tanem, Texas and Bowie is ready for the smart-mouthed and sexy as hell woman who’d torn his heart to pieces. As sheriff he’s used his handcuffs for a lot, but what he wants to do with them and Mavis might just be against the law, in more ways than one.

A single night is too much and yet not enough for either of them. They both know it’s too late to change the past, but maybe together they can exorcise the ghosts that haunt them, and find some peace.

Tina Donahue

Make Me Surrender

When it comes to two of the hottest guys in town, she has a proposition…to win their attention, passion, hearts.

Blurb:

For over a year, Mercy’s had her eye on Travis and Dutch, two of the hottest guys on the Oregon coast. Dark and dangerously virile, Travis owns a saloon that caters to bikers. Dutch looks like one, right down to his impressive tats, and operates a motorcycle repair shop on the premises.

When a position opens in the saloon’s kitchen, Mercy sees a way to be near these sinfully sexy men, wanting the job and lodging, her cabin snuggled between theirs.

Travis isn’t so sure about having Mercy nearby. She’s deliciously curvy, but too nice. He’s into temporary fun. To Dutch, forever is a dirty word.

Imagine their surprise when sweet little Mercy encourages wild nights of carnal pleasure with a dash of bondage and spanking…followed by friendship and tenderness.

Before she’s through, these tough guys won’t know what hit them.

Everyone is an Expert. Not. (Part 2)

Everyone's an Expert. Not! What Selena Blake says about experts and publishi

I’m recycling an Adventures in Publishing post from a few years ago and while mostly I still agree with everything I said from back then, I do have a few new thoughts and things worth adding. (Those parts are in red on my blog.) You’ll find the original post here.

Adventures In Publishing blog

In 2011 it seemed like everyone and their momma was trying to tell you how you should be publishing and why. Or why not. My twitter feed was jam packed with articles, blog posts and tips. And while I still see plenty of information about indie publishing, today a few people have put themself in a crowd by themselves.

Rather than everyone being an expert, there are legit experts now in this crazy up and down world of publishing.

There are folks who have the qualifications and yet I’ve never heard of them before. That’s pretty amazing! Rather than just spouting off, they actually have hundreds of thousands, even millions of sales under their belt. They’re legit.

But here’s the new truth about publishing.

I still agree with what I said last time: I’d like to point out that hardly anyone is an expert these days. Of the books on my bookshelf that tell me how to get published and promote my books, none of them have any advice for writers like me. Why? Because these books are old. Even two years old is old at this point. This post is actually 3 years old. That’s old dude.

Even the experts of right now aren’t the experts of last year.

What you still should be doing as a writer.

If you want to know who the experts are, look to the authors who are living this roller coaster ride. Look at authors who are successful today. Look to the authors who are constantly evolving, constantly bettering their craft, constantly working toward new projects and better things. Look at the authors who are pioneering the Digital Book era.

These are the authors you’ll see mentioned over and over again. They’re giving talks, teaching classes, speaking at conferences. They’re the ones on the blog circuit, hosting online groups/forums, and offering their services. They’re the ones living the life and studying this business.

These authors are the ONLY ones, in my opinion, that can tell you anything at all with any degree of certainty as to what works and what doesn’t work. In other words, unless you’re living it, you have no idea what it takes to become an overnight success. You have no idea what it’s like to shoot up the online bestseller lists. You have no idea about the hard work that goes into writing, perfecting your craft and finally see that work pay off.

These are the experts you should be listening to. Everyone else… it’s just an opinion and they don’t have all the facts.

Who do you follow for publishing advice these days?

What I’m Reading: Wallbanger by Alice Clayton *****

Wallbanger (Cocktail, #1)Wallbanger by Alice Clayton

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

First of all, note that I don’t give many five star reviews. It takes a special book to get a five star rating from yours truly and Wallbanger is a very special book.

I originally stayed away from this book because I didn’t care for the title and didn’t think it was the type of book I’d like. But for some reason I started sluething amazon the other day and came across this. I must have read the blurb and loved it because the next thing I knew I was diving in.

Wait, that’s not how it happened. I saw an ad on facebook for a book that said it was “like Wallbanger” and I clicked on the ad, bought that book and then thought what the hell, let’s buy Wallbanger.

That first book turning out to be a horrible DNF.

But Wallbanger, oh Alice Clayton, I adore you woman. It’s just the right mix of enemies to lovers, funny pets, steamy sexual tension…just the right amount of build up and not second guessing the relationship every.step.of.the.way. I’m so over that crap.

I adored the two secondary relationships that needed remixing. And I loved, loved, loved Clive the Cat. Honestly, I can’t think of one thing I didn’t love about this book and that’s unusual in itself.

But here’s the best part of this book and why I’d recommend it to anyone and everyone.

It’s hilarious. I haven’t laughed out loud at a book in, well, maybe ever.

Wallbanger by Alice Clayton just might be my must read recommendation of 2014.

No Bullshit Advice for Bloggers

blogger-advice

Each month I see dozens of tweets about people needing to blog. Here’s a news flash. Blogging isn’t a requirement in life or in publishing.

Two Things to Think About

If blogging feels like chore, don’t do it. Your content won’t shine if you don’t love what you’re doing.

Would you rather people spend time reading your blog or your books?

Three Things Your Should Know

I’m busy so keep it short, sweet, and to the point.

Despite how cute your kids are, I’m not interested in reading an in depth timeline of their lives, sorry.

I am, however, interested in learning new things. Picking up tips, recommended reads, things like that. I love being in the know so if you’ve got interesting news, share.

So what have we learned?

If blogging isn’t something you’re passionate about, don’t do it.

Don’t waste your readers time with lack luster posts that would bore paint right off the wall.

Do engage, educate, and entertain your audience.

This is Valencia’s story. You’ve waited and here it is. Well, here it will be. Just as soon as I get it finished.

I’m one fifth of the way through and here’s what we know so far.

Boy is there a lot of history in Valencia’s past.

Betrayal can sting for centuries.

True love can last an eternity.

Oh yeah, Izzy and Shade are getting married!

I Totally Typed The End

Think of the best feeling in the world. Got it?

Now multiple that feeling by five. Feels pretty darn good, right?

That’s how I feel every time I write The End on a new book.

Speaking of which…

I just typed The End on the second book in the Girls’ Night Trilogy. Remember, it all started when Cindy Smith stopped by Adam’s office in Instructing Adam, my freebie for Official Wolfpack Members.

And then last summer I released the full length contemporary romance novel, Ask For It, starring JJ Fairchild and Trevor Wyatt.

Since Instructing Adam is a short story (and a freebie… did I mention that?) I don’t count it as part of the trilogy. Just an FYI in case you’re keeping track.

So anywho, the book is done.

D-O-N-E.

Just imagine me dancing around singing the words “done. I’m done.” In a sort of hallelujah sort of voice.

So, when’s it coming out? I don’t have a date yet. But I will tell you that it’s going to the editor mid September. We’ll have a release date announcement after that.

And the cover reveal will be…

Wait. What happened to April?

calendar_selenablake

I can’t believe it’s August already. How did that happen? It seems like yesterday it was April and I was coming off a long winter of writing.

Yes, I know about the earth rotating and days and nights but the cool, sweetness of April… I miss you.

So where have I been and what have I been doing?

This is the story of a working vacation.

For starters, I took some time off. I suggest everyone try this. Truly. Writers. Readers. Everyone.

I turned off the computer and got to work on all those little projects that have stacked up over the years. Painting, organizing, gardening.

I kept on chugging away through May.

I’m not sure if you can go cold turkey the way I did but there’s something amazing and refreshing about such a drastic change.

It honestly makes me wonder if after a month of eating off of paper plates if I’d miss washing the dishes. Yeah, I doubt that’ll happen either. But it’s an interesting idea.

What could you give up for a month?

TV? Books? Maybe even household chores; time to call in a cleaning lady!

After May it got hot out. So much for relaxing through hard work outside. So I came inside and started redesigning my website and putting my backlist into print.

Not as physically hard on my feet but oh my aching back. There’s a chair story in there but that’ll take too much time today. Suffice to say that I spent a lot of time at the computer in June and July.

And then I spent a good deal of time prepping for the Authors After Dark conference. More about that later too. In fact, that about catches us up.

Good bye April, May, June, and July. You slipped between my fingers but I enjoyed my break. Now I’m back in the saddle and taking August by the horns.

How’s your summer been?

Have you gone on vacation?

Done anything interesting? Exciting?

Writers: A Spreadsheet to Track Your Progress

Spreadsheets for Writers: Track Your Progress

Several (don’t count, please) months ago, I gave a talk on software that makes my life easier. I mentioned that I am now a spreadsheet addict (there’s not a 12 step program for this, btw) and several folks asked if I’d be willing to share my spreadsheet.

This is the new and improved version that I’ve been using recently. The idea is to track your progress and when you wrote so that you can get a better idea of when your optimal writing time is. Even if you don’t need to figure that out, you can still use the other columns in this spreadsheet.

Appropriate for all genres & non-fiction writers too. These were created and saved in Excel. Let me know if you have questions, comments, or need a CSV, PDF or OpenDoc.

A spreadsheet for writers: Track Your Progress

Grab the Excel 2003 version here. (.xls)

Grab the Excel 2007 version here. (.xlsx)

View it on Google Docs.

Now Back To You

Do you use spreadsheets to keep track of your work? Your characters? Your writing schedule?
