Songs to start your day

IMG-0918.PNG

What are your favorite songs to start your day?

I’ve been pondering this lately, not just for myself but my characters too. How do they start their day?

How do you start yours?

My alarm plays the song Gumption from The Holiday soundtrack. It’s a sweet way to wake but now I’m thinking I need to follow it up with something faster.

Suggestions?

My Word of The Year

Have you picked your word of the year yet? I’ve been giving it lots of thought. I never did settle on a word last year and I thought about that fact at least once a month.

What I’m working on: Beg For It, Bound to the Vampire Plus a New Series

whatimworkingon_selenablake

Hello dear Wolfpack. I’m flying in with a quick update as to what I’m working on this week.

I’ve got a bit of holiday fun going on, presents to be wrapped and goodies to make but writing wise, I’m about a third of the way through with Beg For It. That’s Joe & Baby’s book for those of you reading the Girls’ Night Trilogy. Pretty soon we’ll find out Baby’s first name which is what she goes by at work. Anyone want to take a guess as to what her first name might be?

I’ve also been tweaking and revising book five in the Mystic Isle series. That’s Valencia’s book. No release date yet but make sure you’re signed up for my newsletter to get that announcement.

Also, I’m making the move from Facebook (long story) to Tsu.co. You can find me (and pictures of my favorite Christmas ornaments) there: https://www.tsu.co/SelenaBlake

Special Excerpts from Forever Mine by Monica Burns

Hello wolfpack! We’ve got a special guest on the blog today. She’s here to tell you about her yummy book Forever Mine. I have to say, this is one of my favorite plots of all time. You’ll see why in a minute. Please help me welcome Monica Burns!

* * *

imageThanks to Selena for letting me pop in and share an excerpt from my newest book, FOREVER MINE, which fortunately for me is getting good reviews. Reviews are always soooo critical for authors to help spread the word. Anyway, FOREVER MINE is a time travel romance. Wait! Don’t run away. I promise this book won’t confuse you. You’ll know exactly where you are and when. Plus you’ll get to fall in love with some awesome characters. Besides, if you’re a fan of OUTLANDER or A KNIGHT IN SHINING ARMOR, I’m pretty confident you’ll enjoy this book.

Soooo, what’s the book about??

BLURB

monicaburns_forevermineWhen a bomb explosion thrusts Victoria Ashton backward in time to 1897, she’s forced to impersonate the Countess of Guildford. Despite Victoria’s attempts to convince the earl she’s not his wife, her counterpart’s infidelity, lies, and ill-tempered personality makes the task almost impossible. Worse, Victoria finds herself falling in love with a man who loathes her. Only when the earl learns to trust her does she realize her future lies in the past. But love always comes at a price, and she must make a painful sacrifice in order for them to be together.

Nicholas Thornhill, Earl of Guildford has been searching for his missing wife for three weeks. Rumors of him being guilty of murder make him unwilling to believe his wife’s latest in a multitude of lies. But the changes in Victoria continuously surprise him. Despite his best intentions, he finds the contempt he once felt for his wife turning into something deeper and stronger. But when danger threatens to separate them forever, he must forge a bond with her that crosses the boundaries of time.

GOODREADS QUOTES

Readers are really enjoying FOREVER MINE, and a reader on Goodreads pulled this quote she liked from the book. I happen to like this one myself. :D

“I’ll be hurting elsewhere in a moment if I don’t get you into bed right now.” He chuckled as he laid her on the mattress. One hand clutching his robe, she tugged him downward.

“Then touch me, Nicholas. Make me burn like you did a few moments ago. I want you touching me, sucking on me…I want you to fuck me until neither one of us can move.”

“Christ Jesus,” he rasped at the lust echoing through her words.”

MINI-EXCERPTS

I tend to be one of those authors who drives readers nuts when it comes to sex scenes. I build the tension up to the point that the reader is ready scream before I give them the ultimate main course. But for now, I figured I’d just give you a little taste of the sexier pieces of the book.

Mini-Excerpt One

Small ripples of sensation cascaded through her body, and she recognized the exquisite onset of an orgasm. A moan rose up from deep inside her as her blood ran hot and thick through her veins. Long and hard, a shudder shook her body as her orgasm built inside her. The vibrations pulsing through her reached a keen threshold until she screamed his name and bucked against him. Strong hands bit into the flesh of her hips to hold her in place as he continued to suck, lave, and nibble on her folds until the stimulation was an exquisite torture.

With a sob of ecstasy, her body came apart until she was consumed with tingling pleasure. Wave after wave of white-hot tremors washed over her until she was drowning in a flood of fiery sensation. Dragging in deep ragged breaths, she trembled as her body slowly calmed to a low, sensitive hum of pleasure. Spent, she lay still on the bed as Nicholas rose up to hover over her. Her eyes fluttered open, and the passion blazing in his eyes made her heart clench in her chest. This man wasn’t just devastating to her senses. He could easily carry away her heart. The realization made her mouth go dry. A low growl rumbled in his chest, and it sent a frisson across her skin.

“You realize I’m not through with you, don’t you, sweet witch?”

Even if she’d had the energy to answer him, she wouldn’t have been able to respond. With a quick move, he easily flipped her over onto her stomach. His hard body pressed into her back as his mouth nibbled on her shoulder.

“You smell of lemons and honey,” he whispered as he kissed the nape of her neck. His hand slid along her curves in a leisurely caress. “And your skin is smooth as satin.”

“Do you have any idea how sexy your voice is?” She closed her eyes with a sigh and allowed herself to simply immerse her mind in the pleasure of his touch.

“Is it?” He chuckled. “Would you still think so if I said I intended to spend the rest of the night fucking you until neither one of us can move?”

“Oh, God,” she breathed as she looked over her shoulder to meet his gaze. “Yes, I find your voice even sexier when you talk like that.”

“You, sweet witch, are a wanton hussy.” Something odd flashed in his gaze, but it was gone in a brief instant.

His palm caressed her buttocks as he laughed softly. She arched her rear upward into his touch, and his fingers slid along the back of her thigh then between her legs where he slid his fingers into her. She moaned softly at the way his touch could instantly set her on fire. Her body clenched around his fingers, and she gasped at how quickly he’d brought her to the brink again. Each sinfully wicked stroke of pleasure made her draw in a sharp breath of delight. The ragged heat of his breath singed her back, and she could feel his hard erection against her leg.

“Nicholas, please,” she rasped. “I need to feel your cock inside me, now. I need you to fuck me.”

Sweet Jesus, your tongue would tempt the devil himself,” Nick growled as he slammed into her.

The size of him filled and stretched her until the sharp, intense pleasure of it made her sob with delight. The strength of the pleasurable sensations rose up inside her much faster this time. The pace of his hard thrusts increased as his body pounded against hers, and the erotic experience set fire to her nerve endings. As Nicholas drove deep inside her, a blast of white-hot heat exploded and spiraled through her veins. Her body clenched around his erection as the first wild ripple of heat plunged over her. A cry of sheer rapture poured out of her as she hit a peak sensation. A fraction of a second later, her body shattered and tightened around him.

Mini-Excerpt Two

“I want to watch you as I make you shatter from my touch, Victoria.” His words whispered across her senses as his hand pulled the hem of her nightgown upward to expose her completely.
She tried to gulp back a gasp of surprise, but failed. Satisfaction swept across his face as he met her gaze for a brief moment. Slowly, he lowered his head and kissed the inside of her leg, and she released a small cry of delight. With a gentle, but consistent pressure, he nipped at her thigh then used his tongue to circle the small area then nip at her again. Every time he lifted his mouth, she thought he’d tend to a different spot, but he didn’t. He seemed to enjoy teasing her with his mouth.
The throbbing ache between her thighs had become almost excruciating, and a sob escaped her as she pleaded with him. The moment she begged, his hand shifted from her thigh and his thumb rubbed against the tender nub of flesh between her slick folds. She jerked from the delicious sensation, and with a moan she shifted her hips to push upward. As he applied a persistent pressure to the plump flesh he slid a finger inside her.
Instantly her body convulsed as one sensation after another made her buck against his intimate caress. Slowly and deliberately, he pressed a second finger into her and then a third. As his fingers pressed deep inside her then retreated, his thumb continued its pleasurable assault on the sensitive nub of flesh inside her folds. She moaned as the raging sensations clutched every inch of her body.
“Look at me, Victoria,” he ordered as his fingers continued to stroke her. A feverish heat spread its way through her as she stared into Nicholas’ smoldering gaze. Engulfed in a fiery heat, a small shudder rippled through her, and she moaned as her eyelids fluttered shut.
“Look at me.” The command forced her to look up at him. “Now, come.”

Hopefully, these teasers will make you want to take a chance on a time travel. I think you’ll enjoy it. Thanks for having me on your blog, Selena.

What I’m Working On: Formatting plus a Kick Ass New Story

Just a quickie, drive by update today Wolfpackers.

Go For It is in formatting this week. That’s right. We’re at the tail end of the production process and no one is happier (except for you guys) than me about this. This is when the book really starts feeling real. And it’s also the time where I must.stop.tweaking.

And, as I mentioned before, I’m working on the next book in the Girls’ Night Trilogy, Beg For It. This is Baby & Joe’s book and wow-o-wow am I loving it. It’s snappy and the sexual tension, let’s just say it’s boiling over. I’m still in the pretty early stages of fleshing out their story but I can tell you this with absolute certainty, it’s going to sizzle like no other book of mine has. Sassy southern girl meets, tall-dark-and-dangerous bodyguard. She wants him, he’s not falling for her charm. It’s a battle of wits, tension, and lust….er, love.

Make sure you’re signed up for my newsletter to get announcements (or request text message announcements for new releases via the dark pink box on the right side of my blog page > > > )

Also, if you haven’t preordered Go For It, now is the time. Pre-Orders count toward lists and opening week numbers. So a strong showing of pre-orders is really good for Gretchen & Greg.

Please help me spread the word about Go For It.

Tweet: Go For It, by @SelenaBlake, releases November 11th. Perfect for fans of contemporary romance, family sagas, and friends-to-lovers stories. (click to tweet)

Hey Barista, I’m Talking to You!

drive thru neon sign

Hey! Thanks for stopping by today. I’m talking about a recent experience and how it changed my perspective. I hope you’ll leave a comment to chime in!

~ S

So the other day DH and I ventured out to a new Starbucks. Everyone else in town had the same idea so the drive thru line was around the block. DH, sweetie that he is, says “I’ll just go in” so he hops out of the car and leaves me to catchup on some writing. (Yes, I write on my phone. Writers, I use Evernote.)

He’s gone forever.

Seriously, it was more like fifteen minutes, which to my croissant deprived stomach equals for.ev.er.

When he finally comes back, my croissant is cold. Cold I tell you. They actually toast them up for you so I’m confused as to why it’s barely luke warm. He explains that they toasted the croissant immediately but it took them another ten minutes to get to my green tea lemonade. So I have an icy fresh drink and a cool croissant. Not a good impression. But hey, it’s a new Starbucks. We’ll cut ‘em some slack.

And I did. Five more times. And they never got a Perfect 10 from me.

One day they gave me a Grande instead of a Venti.
Another day they handed me an ice cold croissant. Then immediately asked for it back (after I’d already pulled it out of the bag to see that yes, it was fresh out of the freezer and therefore had gotten my hands all over it.) They handed me a toasty one, which was nice, but still…
There was the day they forgot to put lemonade in my Green Tea lemonade.
One day they didn’t give me any napkins.
Another day they didn’t sweeten my drink like I’d asked.

At that point I was pretty much done with the new Starbucks. I mean, it’d been four weeks and their service wasn’t gelling. But I’m a firm believer in that you can’t fix what you don’t know is broken, so I intend to write to Starbucks to let them know that they’ve got issues.

This whole situation (and yes, I’m now hungry for a croissant!) made me wonder where I’m lacking. Do I not reply to email quickly enough? Do I not put out books fast enough? A dear reader wrote to me the other day to remind me that I really should update my coming soon page so that readers can stay up to date.

I’m not sure anyone likes to hear that they’re failing, but if we don’t, we can’t improve.

Consistency is a big issue for me. I suck at it. Yeah, I’m putting that out there. I’ve never been one for schedules and routines no matter how much I try to convince myself that I am.

But I do think consistency is a key to a happy life and a successful business. Who was it that said the devil is in the details? They were right. It’s remembering to offer napkins every.single.time. Chick-Fil-A is really good at this whole consistency thing. Pollo Loco, not so much. In fact, they were so inconsistent that they went out of business even though their food was good.

Little things, but important because little things add up.

Now Over to You…

Where do you fail? And for that matter, where do I fail? Let me know. It’s important to me to always be improving. Please leave me a comment. I love hearing from you!
