A Normil Day

I have just published A Normil Day on Smashwords.  It’s free.  Amazon version to come, although I may have to price that one at ninety-nine cents.

A Normil Day is a funny little thing, a superhero pastiche that is deliberately derivative in many spots.  I’m more worried about the places where it looks unintentionally derivative.  For instance, it was written several years ago, before Supergirl aired—but it has a black Jimmy Olsen-like character as the lead.  There are concepts that appear to...

Small Change of Plans

Well, I just raised the price on The Fire-Moon a day early—so that I could have it the right price during Smashwords’s annual July sale.  In other words, it’s still going to be discounted, although not quite by as much.  I’m sorry about messing with the price a day early; it’s still $1.99 on Amazon, if it helps (I’ll be raising the price tomorrow, as planned).  I’m also going to release A Normil Day, which is my free superhero pastiche, tomorrow, so that will be part of the Smashwords sale by...

“The Fire-Moon” Sale Ends July 1st

Like the title says, The Fire-Moon has been on sale for the month of June.  In July, I’m going to raise the price to $2.99, which is hopefully going to be the regular price (except for sales, which I’ll have at winter holiday season and other times).

So if anyone wants to buy the book, you should probably do it before July.

The Fire-Moon is based on ancient Egypt in much the same way that a lot of fantasy is based on medieval England, which is to say that I changed the details when I felt lik...

Echoes of the Ancients is up for pre-order

Like the title says, Echoes of the Ancients is up for pre-order on Amazon.  I am going to have some sales in August where I bring the price down or even mark it as free for a day or two, so you may want to wait for those before ordering.  I’ll keep everyone updated.

I don’t like it, but Echoes of the Ancients is going to be an Amazon-exclusive title for three months.  Many of my advertising options require the KDP Select program, and I need advertising.  So far, fairly few people have bought...

A possible blurb for my upcoming novel

I have a novel which I’m going to put up for pre-order shortly; it’s called Echoes of the Ancients, if you want to watch out for it.  But a lot of things have to be done in order to get it ready, and one of those things is the blurb.  I think I’ve got a pretty decent one hammered out, and here it is:

“The Stargods made thousands of intelligent species. They planted life on almost every planet they came to, and even designed life forms to live in suns. They created hyperspatial Seas that allow...

There is not much of a story behind “Quantum Writer”

It can be difficult to come up with things to say about one’s own writing, and that goes double for very short pieces. You wrote what you wanted to say in the story, for the most part; what else is there?

Quantum Writer“—which is, I should emphasize, entirely free and very short—is a story about the distinction between enjoying writing and enjoying having written.

For me, it varies.  Sometimes I get in a groove, and I enjoy writing so much it becomes what life is all about.  Other times, it’...

So This Is My Blog

Hello, I’m Isabel, and I write.

I should be more specific.  I write science fiction, fantasy, and fanfic.  I list fanfic as a separate genre because as far as I’m concerned, that’s exactly what it is: a genre, no less honorable than science fiction or fantasy despite the fact that relatively few people manage to get paid for it these days.  Occasionally, I try mixing the odd romance in with the science fiction and fantasy, but it’s not really my strength and I often do without it.  Some of my...
