Dedications.✨ One of my favorite things about publishing a book is having the opportunity to dedicate it to people I love. THE QUEEN’S RESISTANCE is dedicated to my grandparents. ✨ Some of you may know this about me already, but for the first 7 years of my life, it was just me and my mom until she got married and her husband adopted me. In addition to my mom’s awesome parents—my Oma and Opa—I also gained two more incredible grandparents from that adoption—Pappy & Grandmommy—who took me in like I had always been one of their own. I think that is why I am drawn to stories about family, and why it emerges so often in my writing. ✨ I also surprised my grandparents with this dedication right before RESISTANCE came out earlier this month. Swipe to see them holding their book for the first time.

Hi! I have a question about prompts! For example, if someone got inspired by one of the free prompts you listed in a previous post or I found online and wrote a novel using that prompt quite heavily as a basis for the story, how would one award credit for

So if one of my prompts inspired your story, that’s amazing and exciting and I’m 100% okay with you writing & publishing it. :)

If you found a prompt online, you might want to double check with whoever shared it to see if it’s okay for you to build your story from it.

I feel like—for the most part—if prompts are shared freely to help inspire creativity in others, they are available for anyone to write about. But sometimes it’s still good to double check if you’re not sure.

You can also always give credit to others who have inspired/helped you in the acknowledgements of your book.

Hi! I have a question about authors & names—here’s an example: if someone published a book before they married and used their original maiden name, but then got married a few years later and decided to change their name to their husband’s last name, and wa

I suppose you could publish under your new name. But you might lose some readers who are unaware of the change. I think the main thing is you do not want to confuse your readers or make it hard for them to find your books.

There are several authors who write under multiple pen names but I feel like they do this because they’re writing in different genres and the different names help differentiate between those genres. So, for instance, they write under a certain pen name for their romance books, and then another name (which may in fact be their real name) for their YA books. So their romance readers know them as one name, and their YA readers as another.

Some writers begin writing under a new pen name if their first couple of books did not sell very well. They essentially rebrand themselves by writing under a new name.

Some writers publish under their first name and choose a different last name to help shield their privacy.

So there’s a lot of options and motivations. It’s always a good idea to talk to your agent about it when you get to that point. :)
