Today is the day our book, Made Like Martha: Good News for the Woman Who Gets Things Done, launches into the world! It’s also my mother-in-law’s, nephew’s, and friend’s birthday, which makes things extra special.

For years, I’ve dreamed, hoped, and prayed for this day. Now that it’s here, it is hard to find the right words to express all the excitement that is swirling within me.

There are so many people to thank, and I’m afraid I’ll unintentionally forget someone…s...

A Tale of Two Houses (Missing Words from Made Like Martha)

Home is a have from life's demands

I had three months to write my book (ten chapters and a five-week bible study). When I turned it in the first time, it was about 80,000 words (yikes!). My fantastic editor may have used the word “tome” to describe it- ha! Now it’s much more manageable with 55,000 words (yay!).

So where did all those words go? Well, some went in the trash (thankfully) and some were recycled (naturally) and some really wanted to make the cut, but didn’t exactly fit with the overall flow of the book.

The follow...

As you know by now, I am intrigued and fascinated by the Enneagram and how it points us toward empathy for others and kindness toward ourselves.

I’m a Type One.

Singer/Songwriter Ryan O’Neal, of Sleeping at Last, says this of Type Ones:

“…their inner critic is so much more aggressively judgmental and intense than they are to anyone else. They are harder on themselves than they are to the rest of the imperfect world.” (from Episode Four of The Sleeping at Last podcast).

I heard these words an...
