Let God Do the Heavy-Lifting (Matthew 11)

Heavy lifting to lightweight quote by Katie M. Reid for Wendy Speake's 40 Day Sugar Fast

Whether you are joining us for the sugar fast, or not, I hope this devotional (from the 40 Day Sugar Fast) will inspire you to trade the heaviness you are carrying for a lighter load. You are so loved by God, just as you are. But since He loves you so much, He invites you to lay down the burdens you are carrying and cast them upon His most capable shoulders.

From Heavyweight to Lightweight

Come to Me, all who are weary and heavily burdened [by religious rituals that provide no peace], and I...

Give It A Rest: Receive the Gift You’ve Been Refusing

the one gift you should not refuse this season katie reid

I like to get things done. I find deep satisfaction in checking things off my to-do list. But sometimes the best thing I can do is leave some things undone, and even allow myself to be undone.

That’s where this modern-Martha found herself a few weeks ago. It felt like I was walking through molasses, or sticky tar, whichever one makes you think of moving in slow motion and it being difficult to put one foot in front of the other.

The cold gray sky, the remembrance of loss, and the conclusion...

How “This Is Us” Gives Words to My Feelings as an Adoptive Parent

How

November is National Adoption Awareness Month. This month houses our son’s Family Day, when, five years ago, a local judge declared that our adoption was finalized.

As Thanksgiving nears, we are grateful for so much, especially the life of our Strong One and how he fills our family with joy and opportunities to grow.

When we asked him what he was learning at school, he said, “T...

Many great books released into the world this month, what fun! I had the honor of writing the foreward for one of them. Sacred Ground Sticky Floors: How Less-Than-Perfect Parents Can Raise (Kind of) Great Kids is the latest book by the uber-talented, Jami Amerine. It’s a fresh dose of hilarity and a...

Daughter Song Delivery

Discouragement and loneliness were unfortunate companions against a chilly November sky. I pushed the sanctuary door open, with a sigh.

My friend was waiting for me. Before we began the much-anticipated project, I named the heaviness tethered to my heart.

She listened.

Unfiltered, I poured out t...
