When the Five Year Plan Falls Apart

When the Five Year Plan Falls Apart by Katie M. Reid for Tricia Goyer's Walk It Out blog series

When the FiveYear Plan Falls Apart

When my husband and I got married, I worked full-time until he was done with school. After that we planned on working for a few years, and saving quite a bit of our salaries, so when we had kids, and I stayed home with them, we wouldn’t be used to living on two incomes. It was all set, our beautiful five-year plan.

But, surprise, surprise, that isn’t how it happened—quite the shocker to my plan-it-out-and-execute-it-effectively self.

I taught until our f...

God is Trustworthy Even When He Doesn’t Do What We Expect

God Can But Will He quote by Katie M Reid for Kelly Balarie's purposeful faith blog

Luke 5:12-13 “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean. Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man, ‘I am willing’, he said. ‘Be clean!’ And immediately the leprosy left him.”

This man with leprosy believed that Jesus could make him clean, if He was willing.

Lord, if You are willing You can make me clean.

You Don’t Have to Be Flawless

I am a tightly wound woman declaration by Katie M. Reid

Dear Daughter:

I see you there, love…my try-hard girl, my striving for the “A” daughter, the Type A woman—the Martha type who handles it all.

You are My creation—painted with the brushstrokes of grace upon breathtaking landscape.

I know how hard you work…rising early, staying up late, constantly stirring thoughts around like stew, looking for the perfect blend to make it all right.

You are not an orphan, but an heir—privy to the inheritance that I died to give you.

Through each season, you s...

Interview with Tricia Goyer: Author of Walk It Out

Author Interview Series by Katie M. Reid

What a joy to interview author, Tricia Goyer, about her new book, Walk It Out: The Radical Result of Living God’s Word One Step at a Time.

Interview with Tricia Goyer

1. Walk It Out is such an important message for today’s Christian in our current climate of compromise. Can you tell us about a time when it was particularly challenging for you to walk out what you knew was true?

There have been many times when I’ve read the Bible and knew God was asking me to step out in faith and follow Him...

Seven Verses to Comfort You When You’re Lonely

Seven Verses to Comfort You When You're Lonely Here are 7 verses to feast on when you’re feeling lonely: Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty (John 6:35). Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me (Revelation 3:20). Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst? (1 Corinthians 3:16).

Scurrying, Striving, and the Problem with Being Still

Rest in God's Sovereignty image by Katie M Reid

I was recently talking on the phone with one of my blog subscribers—enjoying a rich, straightforward, skip-the-small-talk conversation with a fellow doer.

During the course of our convo, we discussed how our God-given wiring is a strength but it can also be an obstacle too.

Those of us who are driven to “do” often have a hard time waiting and being still. When you are wired to get things done, it can be difficult to slow down.

Most of us are probably familiar with Psalm 46:10:

Be still, and...

Hospitality and the Tightly Wound Woman

Hospitality is a matter of the heart quote by Katie M. Reid for At the Picket Fence blog

When it comes to hospitality, I am an idealist. That’s a fancy way of saying I have unrealistic expectations.

I want to serve a mouth-watering meal, with all the food groups, and act like money is not a restrictor to the menu. I dream of serving said meal in a Pinterest-pretty home that is dusted, shiny, and clutter-free. I imagine that my five darlings will not interrupt the conversing adults and will be thoroughly entertained and independent while we visit with friends.

It all looks pretty...

Interview with Lynn Cowell (Author of Brave Beauty)

Author Interview Series by Katie M. Reid

The Interview Series continues, but we are adding a twist to our typical format. Since today’s author has written a book for tween girls, we thought it’d be fun to have my daughter Brooke interview our guest about her book, Brave Beauty: Finding the Fearless You.
