Sunday Letter: 04.23.23
Mother Nature has been giving us a rude little scare the past couple of mornings by flirting with freezing temperatures here in northwest Arkansas. This isn’t surprising; she does this every spring around this time. And because of this, we hold off on planting certain flowers and seedlings outside (no matter how tempting it might be).
This last cold snap is called blackberry winter because it typically coincides with the blooming of blackberries. I’ve never grown bl...

Sunday Letter: 04.16.23

Dear Sunday Letter friends,
Oh my goodness! I have been so excited to tell you what I discovered in my garden this week that I’m just going to swan dive right in. And yes, I will probably use an excessive quantity of exclamation marks to tell you.
Migrating Monarchs

I have noticed a couple of MONARCHS this week. These monarchs are extra special because they successfully overwintered in the mountains of central Mexico and are now migrating north for spring.
Although the picture I took isn’t ve...

Sunday Letter: 04.09.23
Dear Sunday Letter friends,
I hope this letter finds you happy and healthy and filled with joy. Today is Easter Sunday, resurrection day for those of us belonging to the Christian faith. While I have readers who do not celebrate Easter, I believe we can all set aside time on this day to celebrate goodness and peace and grace.
The world sure does need it.

Sunday Letter: 04.02.23
Hello Sunday Letter friends,
Signs of spring are everywhere, and I am grateful for every blooming thing. But man alive, this weather is something else. Tornadoes ripped through Arkansas Friday, leaving a trail of destruction in Little Rock and flattening Wynne. My mother is safe at home on the farm, having dodged yet another weather bullet.
I hope you are safe too.
Speaking of Little Rock…

Sunday Letter: 03.26.23
Dear Sunday Letter friends,
Hey, hey! The past week was spring break for much of Arkansas. Lots of folks have been traveling to all sorts of cool places—I know because I’ve seen their fabulous pictures on social media. My sister and I drove Momma home to the farm, so that’s where we’ve been the past few days. While Mississippi County probably isn’t anyone’s idea of a spring break destination, we love being back home come rain or come shine.

The Worm Moon
I am late in posting about the Worm Moon, but still I wanted to share this fascinating (to me) information. It’s never too late to learn something new, right? Besides, next March when the full moon appears, we will know all about it.
And knowledge is good any time.
The March full moon occurred a couple of weeks ago on March 7. It was glorious here in northwest Arkansas, all glowy through the trees in our back yard. I’ve been tracking the phases of the moon in part because of the phenology wheel...

Sunday Letter: 03.12.23

Dear Sunday Letter friends~
Did you remember to spring forward this morning? It seems like a whole month has passed since my last Sunday Letter, but lo, it has only been one week (and an hour). And in that time, the neighborhood daffodils have exploded.
Yay for that.

Sunday Letter: 03.05.23
Dear Sunday Letter friends~
One of the things I love about living in northwest Arkansas is we have four distinct seasons every year. And sometimes, we even enjoy all four seasons in four consecutive days.
‘Enjoy’ is probably not the best verb.
Sun. Thunderstorms. Drizzle. Tornadic Winds. Freezing Fog. Hail. Record heat. Ummm, yes, it’s no wonder our plants are a tad bit confused.
The good news is each day—cold, crazy, or otherwise—brings us that much closer toS P R I N G

Book Reviews: Jan / Feb 2023
I may earn a small sales commission.
Welp. I am so behind on posting my book reviews, I’ve decided to do a quick update to cover both January and February reads. I’m changing up my format too, grouping like ratings together, beginning with 5-star and progressing to 3.5-stars.
There were a couple of books I started but didn’t finish, so I’m not including those.
From the lighthearted and magical to deep and heart-wrenching, I b...
