Sunday Letter ~ March 2024
Dear Sunday Letter peeps~
Welcome to the rollercoaster weather days of March. March is extremely predictable in her unpredictability. Notice how varied the temperatures will be over the next few weeks. Dreary and cold. Stormy. Sunny, warm days that trick you into wanting to plant tomatoes. The truth is we could still have snow. (Shhh!)
March loves to remind us that we aren’t completely out of the winter woods yet. And how about her howling winds? Hold on to your garden hat lest it sails skyward...

Sunday Letter: February 2024
Sunday Letter friends~
Holy-moly! Welcoming February feels like a major accomplishment, like we scaled the highest, most difficult month of the year, which was icy and treacherous at times and definitely teeth-chattering cold, and now we can almost see clear through to spring. Oh, I’m sure winter will have plenty more to say about the matter, but a few days of false spring has me pretending the season is behind us.
Yes, I’m fickle when it comes to winter. The first beautiful snowfall is thrilli...

January Sunday Letter
Hey, hey! Welcome to my January Sunday Letter.
January represents a new year and a new start (according to the Gregorian calendar anyway). Packing up our Christmas decor, sweeping dry fir needles from the floor, and dusting away the glitter that always seems to sprinkle all the surfaces—these are some of my favorite early-January things.
I also like to spend time thinking about goals for the new year. Call them what you will—goals, resolutions, bucket list items—January is the time I review w...

20 Ways to get into the Holiday Spirit
If you need help boosting your holiday spirit this year, maybe I can help. I’ve heard several friends say they can’t get into the mood of Christmas this year. Also, I’ve been slow to find my jingle too, which is not like me in the least. Of course with so much turmoil in the world, it’s easy to feel out of sync with the holiday. Here’s the thing—it is completely possible to worry and show concern for those suffering while still being grateful and celebrating the good in your life.
One doesn’t h...

December Sunday Letter
Happy December and welcome to today’s December Sunday Letter! I’m so glad you are here.
If we were sitting together having coffee this morning, I would ask about your Thanksgiving. Who did you spend time with? What did you eat?
Thanksgiving is fabulous in its simplicity, and I hope yours exceeded all expectations, beyond a super-moist turkey and your favorite dessert. Whether you traveled or stayed at home, I hope you ended the holiday with a list of brand new things to be thankful for.

Ode to a Snag Tree
I’ve had a major crush on this snag tree for going on ten years now. Ten years is nothing in the life of a wise old tree, but for me, having only moved to the area in 2014, I count him as one of my first and oldest Ozark friends.
For me, it was love at first sight.
I spent my growing-up years over by the Mississippi River and most of my adult life in central Texas. Now, I live in Fayetteville, Arkansas, not too far from Mr. Snag. He, of course, has never moved fro...

November Sunday Letter
Hello, friends! I’m glad you are here for today’s November Sunday Letter.
I trust everyone survived Halloween with no tricks? I don’t know about you, but I’m glad to have all that candy out of our house and into the hands of goblins and princesses. (Okay, we still have a bit of chocolate, but just the amount two sensible people should have on hand for sweet tooth purposes.)
You probably don’t need a reminder, but this year is quickly circling the drain. Remember all those things you said you we...

Roasted Carrots and Parsnips (for all your holiday meals)
I was making my favorite roasted carrots and parsnips recipe for book club last week and thought I should definitely share it with you before the holidays. This is one of my go-to side dishes, perfect for so many reasons.
Not every single side dish must be heavily laden with cream of chicken soup. You know? This recipe provides the perfect opportunity to use all those herbs you’ve been growing all year.Leftover roasted carrots and parsnips will elevate your pot pie recipe in an amazing way!Y...
