Dear February,
Dear February,
When I think of you, I rememberValentine’s Day partieswith classmates and cards with silly sayings and lots of homemade sugary treats.
I think of heart-shaped boxes—the (now considered) vintage ones covered in lace and satin—boxes that were typically more exciting than the candies inside. I poked my finger into the bottom of each chocolate piece until I found one filled with caramel or nougat or the rare smoothmilk chocolate one. Over time Icame to realize oval-shaped chocolat...

Gracie Lee and the Bean Rooster
Gracie Lee and the Bean Rooster is not the title ofa children’s picture book, (not yet anyway). What I’m talking about is the bean roosterpicture familiesdisplayed on kitchen walls during the 1960s and 1970s. Some ofmy younger readers may not have experienced the joy of thebean rooster. Back during the days of Paint-By-Number, when we cut paper dolls from the Sears Catalog and life wasn’t perfectly stagedfor Pinterest, moms and kidsgathered around the dining room table to glue beans to a pat...

The question I get asked most…
Today I’m going to answer the question I get asked most these days. And it’s the BEST QUESTION EVER! But first I need to say it—I’m a published author. Today is official release day. I know you’re tired of hearing about it, but I couldn’t let this day pass without some sort of update. This has been a whirlwind week so far with Pop-Up Book Readings all over Fayetteville and planning for both a real book launch party and a virtual party (not that a virtual party isn’t real). Join me HERE tonig...

Gracie Lee and Eudora Welty ~ common connections…
Theprotagonist of my book, Gracie Lee Eudora Abbott, has anobvious connectionwith Eudora Welty. But there are not so obvious connections, too, that you will begin to understand as you read The Accidental Salvation of Gracie Lee.
Eudora Welty is one of my favorite American writers.Justbefore Christmas when I wrote about the setting for my novel,I quoted Weltywho said, “One place understood helps us understand all places better.” Welty wrote about the South, always creating a strong sense of p...

Bad Mountain. I can’t get my fill.
This is the first time I’ve written a blog post onlyto showcase a musical pairing—Union Hill by Bad Mountain.I believe music has a way of tapping into buried emotion, a way of carrying usback to our roots or uncoveringlong forgotten memories. That’s why I always include a musical pairing with each blog post. Believe it or not, sometimes I spend moretime selecting the music to accompany my posts than I do writing or preparing the photos. And who knows if anyone listens.
But I hope you’ll list...

It had been over a year since Lucy and Annabelle visited Dallas, but they traveled back for Christmas. Oh, there’s nothing quite like a holiday road trip, and the girls know when they queueinto their crates, an adventure awaits. An adventure greater than a schnauzer hair appointment a short trip to the veterinarian. Thankfully, ourtrip was uneventful, and Annabelle didn’t get carsick (which sometimes she does). They snoozedall the way through Oklahoma, I managed to drive the speed limit, and w...
