2nd Edition: Gracie Lee reimagined!

The Accidental Salvation of Gracie Lee

Back when I introduced you to One Mississippi Press, I let you in on the news that I have my rights back for The Accidental Salvation of Gracie Lee. And I compared it to rediscovering a misplaced treasure.

Oh my heart. This process has been like creating something I loved, loaning it to someone else, and finally holding it in my hands again. Over the past few weeks,I’ve been polishing Gracie Lee, making her shine even brighter than before.

I hope you’ll agree.

Gracie Lee. Reimagined.

I know...

Old-Fashioned Chicken and Dumplings

Chicken and Dumplings

I can’t think of Mammaw Ruby (my grandmother on Daddy’s side) without thinking of chicken and dumplings. Hers were the best! She made a huge pot full for every family gathering.

While I don’t pretend mine are anywhere as good as hers, they are pretty dang delicious. Today I’m sharing my recipe (which is based on her recipe which came from the original Bisquick box).

Food in Gene, Everywhere

Food plays a big role in my new book, Gene, Everywhere. Can food be a character? Maybe. Chicken and...

Sunday Letter: 02.09.2020

Hello Sunday Letter friends,

Is it windy at your house? Here in Fayetteville, we are about to be blown away.

It was windy yesterday too. I think the wind made the past week fly by more quickly.

Full Speed Ahead

Things are full speed ahead with the launch of my next book. I can’t believe it will happen exactly one month from tomorrow. Thank goodness this is leap year. I can already tell I’m going to need the extra day this month.

Sunday Letter

How will you spend your leap day? Really, that’s an...

a glorious spring-like day

a glorious, spring-like day

Sunday was a glorious spring-like day. And all the plants went out to play.

Which plants?

The plants that have been hanging out in our garage, and on our kitchen countertops and windowsills. They’ve begun to look a little peaked as of late.

all the plants went out to play

I took them to the back porch to get a bit of fresh air and sunshine. I swear, I heard them sigh as they spread fronds and unfurled leaves. Seriously, the whole day was like a daydream.

It doesn’t take many gray winter days to forget what a glorious...

Gene, Everywhere COVER REVEAL!

GENE, EVERYWHERE

Oh my goodness! Today isGene, Everywhere cover reveal day. If books were babies, this would be the gender reveal party— minus the balloons and cake. Of course, if you have balloons and cake, please, please, break them out.

I was planning to do my cover reveal next week, but I couldn’t wait another day. See? Now that I’m the boss of my book, I can change plans on the fly.

Plus, we aren’t getting any younger. And March 10 is getting closer and closer.

March 10 is my official release date, y’...

One Mississippi Press

One Mississippi Press

You may have heard, I recently started my own publishing company—One Mississippi Press.

Several things led to this decision, but it all boils down to patience and control. Evidently I’m lacking in the former and want more of the latter. Ha.

Patience is a virtue, until it isn’t.

For those of you interested in writing and publishing a book, my opinion on the topic has changed wildly over the past three years. And who knows. Maybe it will change again.

I have lots to say about this. (Not that I...

Sunday Letter: 01.26.20

Sunday Letter

Dear Sunday Letter friends,

This Sunday Letter has a bit of a reptilian theme. Yes, the topics are a little out there. Where else can you read about Frog and Toad, Godzilla, and Chicken Piccata in the same place? Nowhere. I googled it.

This, of course, begs the question, “What do Godzilla and Frog and Toad eat? Chicken Piccata?” Ha. Not to my knowledge. There’s some talk on the interwebs that Godzilla once ate a Fiat, but the truth is, he spit it out. Godzilla feeds off radiation. Not...

Book News: New Headshot and more!

time for a new headshot

Book News:

With a new book release just around the corner, the time has come for a new headshot. I am NOT a fan of having to get a new headshot, but I believe it’s a good idea to have an updated picture for a brand new book. And a selfie from my iPhone won’t do for print and digital use. It has to be a high resolution photo.

The good news—my husband agreed to take my picture. He has a real camera, andhe recently completed a couple of photography classes at the University of Arkansas. I’m all...

Planting Tulip Bulbs (a tad bit late)

Planting Tulips

We finally planted tulips bulbs this week. I wanted to get them into their winter beds before Christmas, but life slipped in and provided other distractions. For a few weeks, our box of bulbs traveled around in the trunk of John’s car where at least they stayed nice and cool. Yes, it’s a tad bit late to plant tulips, but I think they will be okay. The ten day forecast looks mighty cold. Cold will be a good thing for our bulbs now (hopefully) dozing in the soil.

The seasons seem confused. I...

Sunday Letter: 01.12.20

Sunday Letter

Dear Sunday Letter friends,

Good morning, friends. Here in Northwest Arkansas, we’ve had a mixed bag of weekend weather. A tornado here, a flash flood there. A little wintry mix.

Wintry mix is all the rage these days. What happened to an old-fashioned, six-inch snowfall? I’d be thrilled with 3 or 4 inches to completely cover the brittle grass.

Sunday Letter

Winter, if you are listening, so far this season I’ve been a little disappointed. You still have time to make me happy.

Snow Day

Yes, I dream of a...
