When you hit THE END

The day you type “the end” in your novel is a joyous release. You can relax for a bit, let it rest, get some distance before re-reading and beginning to edit.

The next day you feel lost, you know you have to write, you’ve set yourself to a schedule. You go to your computer and it hits you, that piece you been working on for a month, a year, ten years, is done … now what.

You feel empty.

Sure it’s time to start something new, brainstorm, plot, plan, world build. But it’s weird. You are connected to those old characters, you feel like you’ve lost a friend. Maybe they’re thinking of you too?

Okay probably not, or you’ve created a new reality and we’d all better run!

This is how I handled it, I took the week to focus on marketing. And I began jotting notes for my next novel. I tweaked a kids book I had written in the spring and sent it off to a publisher – fingers crossed.

I read three books for reviews and sent out a ton of emails requesting my own book to be reviewed. This is always time-consuming and lacks results. So if anyone has good tips there I’m open…

As soon as this blog is typed I shall begin writing the next novel. When you are a writer there is never a lack of things to do, only the desire. What’s your excuse? It’s your book waiting to be written, get to it.

Happy writing folks, Theresa Jacobs

Surviving the writer’s life

Don’t let the hours of dull everyday work spoil your creativity, take moments here and there to write notes.

Write whatever you want, don’t worry too much the naysayers or editors, it’s your creation

Meet other writers boost each other, help each other, we all have self-doubt. Be brave

Grow a thick skin or learn how to cordon hate into boxes labeled ‘do not open’

Keep writing always, even when you feel like a hack, everyone does at one time or another.

If you can only write a half hour a day, do it, don’t slough it off as not enough time, any writing is better than no writing.

Never forgot to enjoy time away with family and friends, have fun, writing will wait for you.

Happy writing folks, time to plug into NanoWrimo!

If there is but one book you must read – this is IT!

5 * #review

No truer end of times tale has ever been told. An average man buries himself in alcohol and pills to avoid, not only the pain but the strange dreams as well. He is drawn by his good conscious into a fight he didn’t want. With references from Sponge Bob, to Tarantino, to M. Night Shyamalan the character keeps his ties to the life not long left as he tries to find out where he stands in a new world.

The one thing that caught me off guard was the few times it made me cry. So be prepared for that, and be prepared to start this book and not stop until you’ve read the end.

Not another NaNoWriMo post!

Well, I never thought I’d be one to discuss NaNoWriMo. I’m sorry if you are already sick of hearing it from every blogger in November.

I joined this year because I began writing a sci-fi, out of my comfort zone last year and while I had many projects up I the air at once, this novel was just not getting written. I would add a paragraph here and there and in a year only had 24 pages, that’s sad.

So as my debut novel launched on Oct 13 I decided right then to jump in with both feet as I always do, and signed up to nano to get this book written. I work best under pressure with time constraints looming over me.

Writers have no real time constraints, we make it up as we go along, we can finish when we want or not at all. It’s our prerogative unless you have a publisher breathing down your neck. Well, I have a few other books I’m aching to be working on, so this has to get done so I can start them.

Of course, life gets in the way all the time. I got sick. I have tests and appointments and a day job. While needing to rest and work. As we all do! Yet, I still managed to add more words to the the challenge then I did before I signed up.

I hit 21900 Friday. I may not win it, but I will finish it now. The story is finally building and growing and taking on a life of its own.

And that folks Is the point of joining NaNoWriMo!

Get your words in, get your book written.

Happy writing Nov, Theresa Jacobs

What are your thoughts on NaNoWriMo, I’d love to hear from you.

Free Promotions

Free Ways to Promote Yourself - I am updating an older post with new places I've found.

I have run across many ads that charge for promoting authors and their works. They all spout that they are the best.
They will gain you thousands of followers.
They will help you sell more books.

But where is the proof?

In fact, I was rather shocked to find an author stating that they had the secret to building your author platform for only $299.00!

And they have not been the only one I’ve seen. To me that is not selling books, it’s selling empty promises, and making money off others dreams.

How much money are you willing to spend as an Independent author to promote your work?

I work full-time and write whenever I can. I do not have a bankroll to toss around at advertising or self-promotion. Over the last year, I have been clicking link after link, reading advertising sites, and trying to find any free way that I can.

I am going to share that with you, for only - $0.00

Below are all the links to building your author platform for FREE...
We have the internet at our disposal, use it.
Yes, you may have to set aside one day every two weeks – or one hour a day – whatever works for you and do some research. And then more time building a website, and still more time creating new profiles on multiple sites. But unless you want to pay, this is how you need to market your own work.

Use the internet it’s your most valuable tool.
Search, read, ask and find.

Good Luck and Happy Writing.

Chase Your Dreams

You have to believe in yourself and continue to do so in the face of oblivion. There are days where you feel as though your talking to yourself when you share your work. Whether it’s your blog, a video, a new book, whatever it is you’re sending out into the world. There will be days when you are essentially being ignored, people don’t click, don’t like, don’t share and don’t even read. Remeber all times you do the same to others.

We are bombarded daily with posts screaming click me, look at me, read me, and who has that kind of time!

I have a handful of people that I go the extra mile for and when I see their posts. I like, share, and comment. I can’t always read, or watch right that precise moment, but I get back to it. I’m sure we all have this little niche.

Everyone is insanely busy and have their own stuff to create too. Don’t fret about it, or give up. Keep creating, keep sharing, keep speaking to the world. Find new avenues to gather new followers. Try different ways to share, you never know what will peak someone’s interest.  Don’t stop and never stagnate.

This week I made a fun GIF for my book, then I found a new poplar sharing site called Awesome Gang, check it out.

Plus I created an Amazon Paperback Giveaway – this one is currently USA only but Canada and UK will be next!

See this #AmazonGiveaway for a chance to win: Cataclysm. https://giveaway.amazon.com/p/8eadd7869e7904fd NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. Ends the earlier of Oct 26, 2017 11:59 PM PDT, or when all prizes are claimed. See Official Rules http://amzn.to/GArules.

Just be you, believe in you, and put in the time – it will change and you’d better be ready for it when it does.

Stay tuned for my author signing coming 2018!

Happy writing folks, Theresa Jacobs
