I wrote while I waited – you can too!
I posted my blog this a.m. about how busy I was today. One of the things on my list was treating myself to my next tattoo. That is how I reward all my hard work – spend more money! But I’m not here to bitch about that.
Tattoo’s take HOURS! and at first, I was going to listen to an audiobook. However, when I got there the music was pumping, the people were hustling, and there was just too much commotion.
When the pain started I thought, “How am I going to distract myself from this?” I picked up my phone, look at facebook – boring – the proverbial light bulb went off. I always save my WIP to my drive because I have two computers, so depending on where I feel like working, I can open it and keep going.
Low and Behold I lay for 3.5 hours and I wrote 1221 words! That is 3.5 full sized pages. I know it doesn’t sound like much to a non-writer, but trust me it is, especially with just a thumb.
Even if it wasn’t that much, it was more than NOTHING! and I am ecstatic about it. So if you have a phone or a tablet, always remember to cross your work over to something that can be opened anywhere, and never lose time again.

And unless you are superhuman, we must sleep at some point too!

There are times where you have to let life happen, and ignore the art. Yes, I said it! Ignore that little voice calling – come and create me – and it’s not easy to do.

And now my dog is pacing to go run, so with a full schedule this weekend, I must bid you Au revoir and hope for a more evolved post next week.

Defeating the naysayers
My reply: Why not? Your right is my wrong – here’s why – There will always be tough critics, judgemental jerks, and trolls. Never let them tear you down. If you are ever feeling beaten down and inadequate check back through history.
Let’s begin with art.
How do you compare Michelangelo, considered the greatest living artist during his lifetime https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michelangelo
[image error]
TO:
Barnett Newman, seen as one of the major figures in abstract expressionism and one of [image error]the foremost of the color field painters https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barnett_Newman
This Blue Painting Sold for $39 million…….Art is clearly in the eye of the beholder.
A Streetcar Named Desire, which is often regarded as among the finest plays of the 20th century. The movie winning Academy awards. [image error]

The Room hailed as one of the worst films ever made.

Reviews from Amazon:
5* I was never required to read this book while in school but I believe I would have loved it anyway!! I recommend this book to everyone!!
1* I found absolutely nothing to recommend this book at all and I will certainly not waste money on buying the prequel.
TO:
50 Shades of grey [image error]
Reviews from Amazon:
5* What’s not to love about this book. It’s definitely unique and fun to read.
1* Oh my god if this wasn’t an ebook, I’d have hurled it out the window by now. So badly written. SO badly written.
Therefore, if you like Horror such as:
My Best Friend’s Exorcism by Grady Hendrix[image error]
Reviews from Amazon:
4* Horror stories make me giddy, excited and really creeped out.
3* None of the characters ever take responsibilities for their actions, and the police and school investigations regarding the possession just didn’t seem plausible.
You may enjoy my campy tale of terror :
Sudden death by Theresa Jacobs
Reviews from Amazon:
[image error]Nov 2016 Horror Novella – Campy Fun
5*If you enjoy The Evil Dead series and The Exorcist, you will love getting to know Brimorie.
2* ‘Sudden Death’ has a great concept. I just feel that it would have been better written as a script to a supernatural/horror television show than this story.

In conclusion – from art to movies to books, everyone has their own likes and dislikes. Freedom of speech and expression allows us to not only share all this with the world but say whatever we want about it too.
Keep being yourself, keep working at your craft, and be proud of everything you’ve accomplished.
Happy writing folks, Theresa

Promote Your Blog in 2018
A blogging Connection
Hi Everyone,
In 2017 I started a blog post called “Promote Your Blog” where fellow bloggers could share and promote their blog with the MIU community. This post resulted in 25,000+ views and 4,000+ bloggers sharing the who, what and why behind their blog.
I want to create a new directory to even out the playing field for newcomers to the blogging community. If you shared your blog in 2017, please feel free to share it again. To the newcomers, please leave a description about what readers might find if they visit your site. Also, remember to include a link to your blog.
Hopefully this will create some positive synergy for our very special blogging community. Let’s make 2018 the year of less perfection and more connection. Also, feel free to reblog this post so we can get more people involved. Happy blogging everyone!
Kindly,
Dr. Perry

The writing addiction
If you think you can’t write all the time, you’re wrong. Perhaps you have a different set of priorities. That’s all there is to it.
I know many people talk about habits, make this change to grow your habit, once you form a habit it’s hard to break, and more clichés than you can shake a stick at.
While I am sure they are correct about lifestyle choices- is writing really a habit? Personally, I don’t think a writing routine can ever be a habit. Writing is an art form. It’s a release valve, an escape, or your livelihood even.
Creating anything from nothing has its own power.[image error]
Everything else in life is mundane and bland.
But if you can imagine, people, places, and worlds, and make that visible to the world. That is magic! Once you learn how to do that with confidence, whether it’s good or not is in the eye of the beholder, it’s impossible to stop.
Writing isn’t a habit, it’s an addiction.
The choice is yours. Yes, it’s easier to plop in front of the TV and zone out for four hours, and that is what many of us like to do. However, once you start bringing stories life, you will feel a draw from that television to your computer. Your brain will be screaming at you: “I can write better than this show’s writers.” OR “OMG this show is amazing, I want to write something this good.” And that’s when you’ll find yourself heading off to write – just a few mins- you’ll tell yourself. Four hours later and you’re saying – where the hell did the time go?
Tell your tale. Happy writing folks.

Box Store Book Signing – Why you should do it.
[image error]courtesy of DH Media
One of the questions that many new writers ask is, how do you get a signing? The answer is simple, you call your local bookstore and ask if they allow indie authors to sign there. Luckily my local Chapters did – for a cut of course.
However the benefit of this, number one: EXPOSURE!

Number two: Some venues have a rule, if you sell enough that day, your book goes on the SHELF!
I’m extra lucky that my name at this store come right after Joe Hill! Hazzzah!

I was also able to have a professional photographer there for a short time, and they captured some perfect shots for me.
