Introducing Toneye Eyenot, Horror Author & More!

Hi Toneye, tell us about your books, genre, stand-alone or series.

Toneye: Hi, Theresa! And hails n howls to your readers! My books range from Dark Fantasy, through to extreme horror, and bouncing around the many subgenres in between. The Dark Fantasy books are part of my ongoing ‘The Sacred Blade of Profanity’ series. Although primarily Fantasy, they do have some pretty brutal instances of horror, especially the second book, Joshua’s Folly. The others are stand alone and purely Horror. Blood Moon Big Top blends Werewolf and Clown together in a rabid romp of psychological and extreme Horror. Wolvz: Whispers of War is, as the title suggests, a Werewolf novella. My latest two releases are collections. The first is Flash of Darkness – five tales of flash fiction, dipping the brush in different subgenres of Horror. The second is Psychotic Interlude – a larger collection of more extreme short stories which delve into the realms of psychosis…Human monsters and the like.

How long have you been writing?

Toneye: Around 30 years, give or take a moon, and discounting a few several year breaks. My first published work was song lyrics submitted as poetry to the first Rejected For Content anthology with J. Ellington Ashton Press. That was back in 2014 and it got my foot in the door, publishing book 1 in The Sacred Blade of Profanity series, The Scarlett Curse. Since then my deranged scribbles have made it into all 6 RFCs. It’s been a wild ride from there, with my work appearing in over 40 anthologies and 6 of my own releases. Not to mention several anthologies run and edited by me over the past couple of years.

Are you traditionally published, or self-published?

Toneye: Up until the beginning of this year, only traditionally published, with the aforementioned JEA Press. These past couple of moons have seen my recent work released through my own imprint, Luniakk Publications, with my darker half, Mar Garcia – the owner and founder of The Bold Mom and Disturbing Drawings, creating the covers plus formatting and publishing the books.

If self-published when/why did you take that route.

Toneye: A lot of authors have been taking the self-published route in recent years and after four years with trad. publishing, eye figured it’s about time to give it a shot myself. There’s a lot of shit books on Amazon with lame ‘microsoft paint’ style covers and what seems like a complete lack of editing. Always hearing the complaint that these ‘authors’ who think they can just shart on a manuscript and upload it to CreateSpace are giving all of self publishing a bad name. Granted, from my observations, there have been way many more excellently presented works from some great self-published authors. With Mar by my side and taking care of the difficult part of publishing, eye am confident my books are being viewed in the latter category. So far, with Flash of Darkness and Psychotic Interlude landing 5 star reviews (one 4 star with Falsh, but hey, that’s keepin’ things real haha), it’s looking like Luniakk Publications is on the right path.

Does writing energize or exhaust you?

It depends on what it is. To be honest, Book III in The Sacred Blade of Profanity series exhausts me. Mainly because it has dragged on for 2 years now and there’s a certain pressure to get it finished. People have been waiting since Joshua’s Folly and it’s pretty shit of me to leave them hangin’ like this. It’s coming! Promise! Getting a new idea for a story is always a great boost though. Lately, however, that is tempered with the guilt of finishing said book above haha. After Rejected For Content 6, eye announced my ‘retirement’ from short stories and anthologies until eye can get my series written, so that’s the current plan. The dreaded ‘anthology addiction’ had me firmly in its clutches, keeping me from the bigger picture, so to speak hahaha. On the plus side, eye have several dozen short stories scattered throughout all these Anthos and my work/name has gotten out there a bit. That’s the role of anthologies, basically – to be discovered by new readers in the hope that they will seek out your books. After about 40 published short stories, that’s that goal achieved now.

How many hours a day do you write?

That always varies. Especially at the moment, being across the world in Spain. Eye don’t have a routine, plus my laptop shat itself on the flight over so eye have to share the computer with my insanely busy darker half. Then there’s my editing work. Finding time to actually write these days is a challenge in itself, and then when there is time, it’s a matter of inspiration and word flow. The timing has to be right. (At this point, your readers are probably thinking…”and this guy is an editor?! He can’t even spell ‘I’!!”) Hahaha

Short Story – Last Goodbyes

I am not going to blog tomorrow as per usual – but instead leave this here for the week. It’s an important share to many who have fought, are fighting, or have lost to cancer.

echoesofthepen

Macmillan5In 2015 my good friend and fellow author, Ian D. Moore invited members of our FB writing group the IASD (see www.indieauthorsupportanddiscussion.com) to write and contribute original stories for an anthology of short stories on the theme of Relationships in all their many and varies forms. The idea was born out of the author’s personal loss of a much loved close relative to cancer.

Many of the authors, both in this edition and the forthcoming 2018 Macmillan anthology have had personal experience of cancer, either coming to terms with it personally and/or via friends and family.

Even as I post this story, Ian D. Moore and a number of Indie authors are busy editing and formatting the contributions for the 2018 edition, also in aid of Macmillan cancer.  In addition to the adult contributions, a number of younger have also contributed to the book.

Needless to say, I will be blogging…

Free or Affordable Book Promotions

I created a similar list a few years ago, but times change. New places arrive and old ones shut down. Here are some of the current ones I use, some free, some with variable pricing. Some with special fun features.

The Independent Author Network, truly does what they say they are going to do. They have free offers and low priced (ONE-TIME FOR LIFE PAYMENT) plans, that make it worth the few extra bucks.

Readers Favorite offers free reviews, and fairly quickly I might add. They are professional, in-depth and honest. Your review gets posts on their site, Amazon, and good reads. Plus so much more.

https://readersfavorite.com/book-reviews.htm

All Author gives you a landing page of your own. They also create fun interactive blurbs and gifs. You can set up auto-tweets too. Check out this cool GIF I made.

Book Bub also gives you a landing page and you can follow others. I haven’t seen anything truly interesting about them as of yet. But free is free!  (I can’t tell you how many time I’ve written boob bub – laughing had to share)

The Awesome gang, reviews and gives you a spotlight page. They email every Sat new books and reviews.

The Indie Reviewers, once again Free reviews! Which we all need to pimp our books. The one big bonus with finding these reviewers is that most of them have their own blogs and post their reviews on them. This gives you a completely different audience with every single review. The hard part is finding a reviewer who is not so bogged down that they have the time to accept you.

The Bold Mom, this is for the Horror Genere only. The site is unique to all the rest and professionally done. SHe advertises, spotlights and reviews, depending on what you need. the prices vary.

Shameless Plug & FREEBIE

My next book is in editing! It will be published before April, I can feel it.

I planned a novel but it ended as a novella, and I didn’t want to over fluff it, therefore I am leaving it as is. My readers will be thrilled with that news, as it’s fast-paced, thrilling, and chilling!

Here is a teaser poem that gives an insight into the evil characters, and a video that will tell you what it’s about. I hope you enjoy

From the frying pan into the fire

Hey, I was honored to be the spotlight on Milly’s blog. Check her out too!

Thanks again Milly.

Milly Schmidt

This is a guest post by Theresa Jacobs.

I was46 yrs. old, working in retail, and had squashed my desire to write for twenty plus years. I was beginning to question my life, or more so, my lack of ambition in 2016. One day I woke up and said to myself: “Life is pointless if I am not happy with who I am.”

My new life as a writer was born that day.

I did have a dusty, twenty-year-old manuscript, housed on floppy discs – for those who may not know, this is an outdated mode of saving files.

I have a tendency to jump straight from the frying pan into the fire. I took these files, and without re-reading the book, or doing any editing, I decided to upload it to Amazon. That was not a brilliant idea. I just put a rough draft out there…

The Overwhelming Side of Writing

When anyone decides to start writing and self-publish the one thing no one ever tells you – unless you stumble across a blog such as this – is how easy it is to become engulfed tasks that feel unwriterly!

Yes, I made up a word, deal with it.

I have many balls in the air. It’s my personal preference though; I like having different projects to work on otherwise I get bored. I have a novel in progress, a biography in progress, an online magazine contribution to make, my weekly blog (Hi), and reading indies to review. Then there is social media contact multiple times a day and always marketing in various area’s. I do also work full-time on top of all the above. Luckily my child is an adult now so I can do it all.

The marketing side of writing alone can be overwhelming. Which site is going yield the best results? [image error]

Do I pay or not pay?

[image error]Doing interviews. Hosting events. Going to actual live events.

                                                                  Meet and greets. [image error]

And constantly creating ads, video’s or podcasts. All to keep the writing machine liquid.

                                                Where’s the time to write?

In order not to become lost in all the tasks, it’s usually a good idea to have a schedule. That helps focus on the important now, and not get all crazy-brained.

[image error]Google calendar can help with that. It’s also a good tool if you are submitting to calls for stories, to keep track of when they post their acceptances. Because if you create story after story and submit as I do, you want to know when they end – to either post elsewhere or celebrate a win.

And as long as you don’t have a contracted deadline, it’s okay to occasionally take a vacation from all of it! [image error]
Until next week, happy writing folks, Theresa Jacobs

Obsessed with books

Why are the majority of us readers, either writers, or want to be writers? What is the obsession with words, books, paper, pens? IS there some phycological disorder linked to us?

There is the Obsession with copious amounts of notebooks. All of these have been written in. Some full, therefore a new one makes sense, some used for ‘specific’ writing needs. Some 3/4 full of ramblings.  However, they are excellent sources of material when you need inspiration. Two of my novel idea’s were buried there.

The ‘only my favorite’ authors shelves. I am aiming to collect all in hardcover. Yikes, what a big expenditure with little return that is! Unless, of course, there’s a first book, first edition, mint in there. Maybe someday I’ll sell – or more accurately my family will when I’m dead. Sorry family!

Can’t forget the new acquires :

Or the ones I wrote!

How about the boxes in the basement that are packed away until the reno’s are finished – which also has fully written in notebooks too.

Well no matter what the psychology is, life is short, and if the above is what makes you happy, then I say enjoy! https://www.amazon.com/Theresa-Jacobs...

PS Wiki says this:

Bibliomania is characterized by the collecting of books which have no use to the collector nor any great intrinsic value to a genuine book collector.

is not to be confused with bibliophilia, which is the usual love of books and is not considered a clinical psychological disorder.

Other abnormal behaviours involving books include book-eating (bibliophagy),[8] compulsive book-stealing (bibliokleptomania), and book-burying (bibliotaphy).

Meet A Horror Promoter Extraordinaire

I’ve had such a busy winter that I’ve neglected my monthly author spotlights. I’m back at it with a surprise guest for you all today.

She goes by the moniker Mar Garcia. I first met her when I signed up to promote my book on her website: “The Bold Mom.”

Her level of personal service was so welcoming and refreshing that I joined all her sites. As soon as I did that, I found her crazy beautiful artwork. Her work is so stunning in fact that I asked if she made covers for authors. Lucky for me – she does! She is working on my next horror book Cimmerians for me right now. I can’t wait to showcase it.

Now I’d like to introduce you to the soon to be famous (yes I do believe it)
Mar Garcia.

First, can you tell our readers what “The bold mom” site is about and all that you offer?

The Bold Mom is Horror. A shelter for special, beautiful minds. On one side, I lend an space for some guest authors to review books and express themselves, and on the other, I promote, share, push and support horror books and metal music. As much as I can
