Create Your Year-End Money Ritual

Dear Money Adventurer,

I’m a huge believer in pausing at the end of things.

Savoring the view at the top of that mountain you just climbed. Taking a few deep, heartfelt breaths at the end of that project. Saying a prayer of gratitude to your old house as you leave it for a new one. Taking a moment to honor, celebrate, grieve, and acknowledge what’s happened.

That’s what this time of year is, at its best, for me.

It’s a time to slow down and look back … before looking ahead.

In a...

Who Are the Players on Your Financial Support Team? Here’s a guide…

Dear Money Adventurer,

Everything you didn’t know you needed to know about your financial support team

Please say it with me:
I do not have to know everything.
I can ask for help.
Sometimes, getting support is the strongest, bravest thing to do.

Years ago, I was a diehard DIY’er, when it came to money stuff.

Back in the early days of my Financial Therapy work, I advised everyone to keep their own books — essentially, to be their own bookkeeper — at least for awhile.

You see, so m...

How to Work with Tough Money Emotions.

Dear Money Adventurer,

A while back, this question popped up in my year-long Art of Money program:

Bari, help! As soon as I start working on the practical, nitty-gritty stuff around money, my brain shuts down. I’ve been trying to catch up on my taxes, but as soon as I begin, I panic. My brain goes blank. It’s like I’m a computer in meltdown mode: blue screen of death, nobody’s home. It’s just too difficult to look at.

I feel motivated on one hand — but paralyzed on the other. How do I k...

3 Powerful Somatic Practices to Cultivate Inner Safety

Dear Money Adventurer,

Sometimes, as we move deeper into our relationship with money, we find that this work brings up old wounds or painful emotions that we thought we had healed.

These moments are a test of your mindful awareness and personal growth, and their unfolding can feel disorienting and overwhelming.

Finding yourself moving through painful histories while also simultaneously trying to learn new practical money skills can feel like the ground is giving way beneath your feet.

Want to Work With Me Privately?

Dear Money Adventurer,

As we cozy into colder months and shorter days here in Colorado, I’m taking time to ease into my end-of-year money rituals a little earlier in the season. It’s about that time of year to start looking ahead to the changes we hope for in the coming year, right?

As my thoughts turned to you, I wanted to offer you support to bring healing and growth to your relationship with money before we head into the new year, as well.

With this in mind, I’m opening spots in my c...

Free Financial Therapy! Tune in to My Latest Interviews

Dear Money Adventurer,

Today, I’m thrilled to share with you a handful of recent podcast appearances where I got to share some of my money teachings as a somatic based financial therapist.

As those of us in the Northern hemisphere are transitioning from Fall to Winter, these conversations are like a cozy sweater added to a warm cup of coffee that you hold with both hands as you watch the snow fall.

In these episodes, the hosts and I dive deep into the connection between our emotions and...

How Do You Handle Big Unexpected Money Curveballs?

Dear Money Adventurer,

I have a quick question for you: what do you do when life throws a money curve ball at you? Not a ball of money (which would be nice), but a financial challenge, one you never saw coming until it hit you by surprise in the middle of an otherwise unremarkable afternoon.

No matter what your money story looks like, we all encounter unexpected money curveballs in life. Today’s Money Mocha I’ve just brewed up fresh for you is all about how to deal with these money curveba...

The Antidote to Money Shame

Most of us have HUGE resistance to doing money work — at least in the beginning.

An elegant, successful client of mine once told me: she’d rather talk about her sex life than her bank accounts.

And even when we know that we “should” work on our money — we’re still resistant.

Talk to a bookkeeper? Yikes! Look at our income and spending with our honey? Run away!

There’s a name for this resistance. It’s not just fear. It’s shame. Money Shame. And we’ve all got it.

That’s why the “tou...

27 ways to make a Money Date your own

Bari Tessler | Money MochasYour relationship to money is like a layer cake.

(Now there’s a metaphor we can get behind, right?)

There’s a big, thick, gooey emotional layer. (I’m imagining dark chocolate ganache, if you can’t tell.) Maybe there are actually several of these layers, throughout the cake.

Then there’s a psychological-mental layer. That’s all of the beliefs and patterns you have about money, whether they came from you, your parents, your culture, or beyond. (Raspberry coulis, perhaps?)

Money h...
