Why Money Dates are Essential to Your Daily Practice

Dear Money Adventurer,

Your relationship to money is like a layer cake.

(Now there’s a metaphor we can get behind, right?)

There’s a big, thick, gooey emotional layer. (I’m imagining dark chocolate ganache, if you can’t tell.) Maybe there are actually several of these layers, throughout the cake.

Then there’s a psychological-mental layer. That’s all of the beliefs and patterns you have about money, whether they came from you, your parents, your culture, or beyond. (Raspberry coulis, ...

How to Work with Tough Money Emotions.

A while back, this question popped up in my year-long Art of Money program:

Bari, help! As soon as I start working on the practical, nitty-gritty stuff around money, my brain shuts down. I’ve been trying to catch up on my taxes, but as soon as I begin, I panic. My brain goes blank. It’s like I’m a computer in meltdown mode: blue screen of death, nobody’s home. It’s just too difficult to look at.

I feel motivated on one hand — but paralyzed on the other. How do I keep going with money stuff...

5 Podcast Interviews to Break Down Money Taboos

Dear Money Adventurer,

One of my favorite ways to make financial therapy more accessible for more people is by doing interviews and having more money conversations. Because when we talk about money, we chip away at the shame and taboos we’ve built around money in our lives, communities, and the world around us.

So, in February, I posted on Instagram and Facebook inviting folks to interview me on their podcasts about money, relationships, and personal growth. I had no idea if posting that l...

What do your business boundaries look like?

Dear Money Adventurer,

Building a sustainable business, a business that truly serves you and empowers you to serve your community, is a masterclass in learning how to recognize and honor your own boundaries.

You have been building those boundaries since you began your business. In sketching out the hours of operation, the offerings you share, who you serve, how, why, and for how much, you create boundaries around your work, often without realizing it.

Until a client asks for services th...

Why Boundaries are Essential in Life and Money

Dear Money Adventurer,

Boundaries are one of the steel threads that run through this life and money journey. They’re one of the core themes that come up in this work over and over again–in money, life, love, and even business.

From the first day of my Art of Money program to the conversations that unfold in my Mentorship community, we’re exploring what it means to be in healthy relationship; to have healthy boundaries. Not only in your personal relationship with money, and with yourself, b...

Your Body Has A Lot to Say About Money

Dear Money Adventurer,

Even if you are completely unaware of your personal money story, your body knows it well.

Your body has been there for every formative money experience you’ve ever had.

Your body holds every money belief you’ve ever learned or acquired, every heartfelt money emotion, from shame and anxiety to confidence and joy, and everything in between.

Your money experiences and money emotions are rooted in your body. Your body knows. It remembers, even when you don’t.

Th...

You are not behind in life or with money.

Dear Money Adventurer,

Wherever this finds you in your money journey, I want to remind you that there is nowhere else you “should” be.

Sometimes, as we navigate the ebbs and flows of life and money, we pick up expectations that aren’t ours to carry. We compare our homes, our careers, how “successful” or how “good” with money we are to our friends, family, peers, and colleagues, and we find ourselves lacking.

In the midst of comparison, you lose sight of the fact that each one of us arri...
