How do you deal with a bad day? I'm Really bad at handling it.

For the record I don’t think anyone is an expert - that’s why they’re bad days! They’re just little tests for us to see how we handle sour energies and adversity, and that’s ok.

I’m probably the last person to ask about this lately because I feel like I haven’t been great at this. But here’s what I know.

First, you can’t be useful to yourself or others if you aren’t covering the basics - feed yourself, give yourself enough sleep, some exercise. Basically the minimum requirements for being a human. If those are covered, you have a way better chance of turning the energy around, in my experience. If it’s a really awful day I know how easy it is to skip one or more of those things, but don’t, it’s to your disadvantage.

After all that, do your “happy place” activity, solo, just you, phone off. If it’s meditation, yoga, drawing, listening to music, writing - whatever your niche is. As long as it’s something that allows you to connect with yourself instead of disengaging (like watching TV). Bad days are chances to learn, and dedicating some time to that activity that makes you feel the most connected with yourself can at least turn a bad day into a lesson, instead of a worse day.

In sum: take care of yourself, be open to what the day is trying to tell you.

What do you eat for breakfast normally? I know that's a weird question, but I'm a breakfast rut and it sucks. And you have an incredible body, so you must eat healthy. Xo

Aww shucks, thanks!

A trainer I worked with in the past told me it’s ideal to get 30 grams of protein out of your breakfast… but for the record I don’t think I’ve ever managed that. A disclaimer that I’m a vegetarian and by NO means a nutrionist. (But my friend is! She’s amazing, you can check out her site here for better and more legit recommendations than mine)

But since you asked, I normally split breakfast in two - I’ll do a liquid first, wait an hour or two and then have the rest of it. I don’t know why, force of habit I guess.

My favorite options for part 1:

Breakfast smoothie (nonfat greek yogurt, almond milk, whatever fruit I have to use up)Green smoothie (I like the Bolthouse or Naked one)Coffee with a splash of 1% organic milkStarbucks Chai with either almond milk or 1% organic milkGlass of almond milk or 1% organic milk

For part 2:

Luna bar with peanut butter (I love the peppermint chocolate one, I eat that one basically exclusively haha)An eggo waffle with peanut butter and half of a cut up bananaSmartStart cereal with either almond milk or 1% organic milkVanilla greek yogurt (the Chobani 100 cal cup) with granola and berries on topBanana with peanut butter

Definitely check out Blueprints Beauty by my friend Marita for healthier recommendations from a real nutritionist!

Down the Rabbit Hole: 5 Alice in Wonderland Retellings

Down the Rabbit Hole: 5 Alice in Wonderland Retellings:

Honored to be included on @bookriot’s list of top 5 Alice in Wonderland retellings.

When I saw my brave, weird little book cover next to that of Christina Henry’s bestseller, and A. G. Howard’s Splintered, I had one of those moments where your surroundings blur and your cheeks get hot and all you can think about is how those little bound words grew wings and flew farther than you ever dreamed they would. A little feeling of wholeness and joy fell into place. I let myself enjoy it. I wanted to share it with you who have all helped this book to soar.

“I mean, I can remember — when you’re a smart kid, or you’re just a very sensitive kid, and you have a lot that you need to say that’s very important to you, people don’t really take you seriously — I can remember being so frustrated, just constantly to the point of tears. I think the thing that I said most in my life for the first ten years was ‘Just listen to me. Listen.’ And even when I say that now, I always have a little flashback from those years, because I had so much trouble being taken seriously. I can remember people saying, ‘You’re twelve, Fiona,’ and just disregarding everything I had to say. All of my very deep, intense, serious worries and fears and wonders were just kind of disregarded because I was a kid and I was crazy and I was weird.”
