#FridayFantasyPrompt – #FlashFiction – Realm

realm

.

Because we all love to write and because I’ve really gotten swept up in the challenge of Flash Fiction,  this is an Invitation to use the fantasy image above to create a post on your own blog… poetry, flash fiction, short story,… light or dark, whatever you choose, by noon (EST) Thursday 29th September and to paste your link directly into the comments section of this post so we can all visit, read and enjoy other’s offerings and explore the sites of other writers.

Please also use the #FridayFantasyPrompt hashtag in your title so your posts can be found via Reader Search, Twitter, and Facebook, if you link to these.

I shall begin with the following:

.

He gazed upon the variegated greens and golds of the clearing; ambreen illuminance glimmering in a verdant chorus of winged denizens singing enchantment and trilling ripples of ethereal song.  He listened, beguiled as the laughing brook tumbled under his feet, cascading beneath an ancient footbridge spanning the joyful tumult.

Overhead, lantern-trees infused a radiant glow against the spectral dimness of the forest waiting beyond the clearing.  There in the phantom luminescence, silhouettes darted and hovered, warning him to draw no nearer, but the mournful cries he tracked came from those shadows.  He had to follow…

Into the realm.

.

First to Respond with a Marvelous Interpretation of his own is Richard M. Ankers. Thanks Richard for joining in!

Behind the hedge where the hollyhocks bloom, beyond the meadow and over the grassy hill, past the fog that kisses the forest’s skirts, lies the land of the little people. Invisible to the big folk with their tromping boots and loud voices, screeching children and slathering dogs, the little people gather in the shade of fallen acorns, hidden. You might have wandered by their stream and thought it a trickle, might have laughed at their lily pad boats and thought them fallen, crumpled leaves. You won’t have noticed the tiny, stone bridge that spans their world and ours, instead, mistaking it for a fallen log or rock at an acute angle. You won’t even have seen them sheltering under their lantern leaf lights at midnight; they look like fireflies to human eyes. But they’ve seen you, my friends. They’re watching you now with glinting, emerald eyes, waiting for the moment you stray beyond the sounds of their trilling chaffinch and blue tit voices. ‘Why?’ you say. Because it’s Friday night, and it’s time to play.

#FridayFantasy – The Reviled #BookReview – “A tale of hope, fidelity and forgiveness, love and redemption”

THE REVILED COMPLETE (1)

.

Diana of Myths of the Mirror recently wrote a marvelous review of Dark Fey The Reviled and today she shared this review, among several others, on her blog.

.

The strongest part of this book is the beautiful lyrical language, detailed imagery, and descriptions of a fantasy world with a rich history and fleshed out cultural tradition. It’s not a quick read and it takes a bit to get going, but for readers who love to immerse themselves in a story and characters, it will fit the bill.

Ayla is one of the fey, a winged fairy with unique gifts who leads a gentle life caring for the young fey in a nursery. All is well until she senses the presence of another, a mysterious dark fey who doesn’t reveal himself, but watches her from the forest. When nothing changes after many uneasy visits, Ayla begins to communicate telepathically with him and when he makes no attempt to harm her or the children, she becomes curious.

The story picks up with the introduction of Gairynzvl, the dark fey who quickly became my favorite character. Of all the personalities, he struck me as the most emotionally nuanced with a compelling story of abduction and a desire to return from the world of the reviled to the world of light. His hope is that Ayla can help him bridge the gap and reach his goal. It’s not an easy journey as the worlds of light and dark are destined to clash.

This story pits good against evil, but more than that, it’s a tale of hope, fidelity and forgiveness, love and redemption. There’s a bit of romance and plenty of fantasy. It’s a strong start to Morgan’s series and appropriate for YA readers.

Diana’s full post with Additional Book Reviews

Thank You Diana, Truly

Open Heart- Open Mind – #Generosity #Kindness #Compassion in #Poetry

Please click to play

.

Open Heart1

In the Hush of Waiting Dawn,

As Life stirs soft upon the Celestial Tide,

Silence lifts its head, Delicately unheard,

Mute in the rush of conceit and pride.

There in the Quietude,

Waiting,

Unseen;

Lingering in the Calamitous

Stillness,

So Serene,

Children awaken to the Fair, Bright Morn,

Emptiness Yawning to Adorn;

Yet Smiles from Sweet faces Shine,

Without enmity,

Without anger,

Breathing Uncertainty with Rhyme.

Open Heart 2

Stand then not upon Apathetic Stone,

Where rock and shale fall tempestuously round,

But Reach across the Glimmering Morn,

With Harmonious Love Your Soul’s Truest Sound.

With Open Heart and Open Mind,

Gift of Yourself,

Generosity in Kind,

And Quell the cries

As Your Compassion Dries

All the Tears

Of a Thousand Years.

Open Heart 3

Stand not within callous Apathetic Shade,

While greed and avarice plunder and raid,

But with Open Heart and Open Mind,

Gift of Yourself

and Receive in Kind.

#Writephoto – Beacon – #FlashFiction

beacon

.

It stood silently, waiting.

Upon the hushed plane, beneath the roiling sky, it stood.  Crafted in the shadows of yesterday, the beacon once blazed in triumph and jubilee; heralded bleak infamy, and shouted warnings into the dark of night.

Now, in leaden stillness, it looked upon the open wold and silently waited; wondering where its benefactors had gone. The village that had echoed with laughter, tears, and wisdom chanting through the years, now stood in the hush, silent and lonely.

Flame no longer kissed its crown; it stood waiting, silent, in the hush.

Lonely.  Forgotten, heralding none but the thrush.

Spun Amber and Gold – #Autumn #Poetry

Spun Amber and Gold

.

Chartreuse shades, Spun in Amber and Gold,

Settle o’’er the Hushed glen, the Tranquil ‘wold,

Speaking in tones of Russet and Red,

Echoing secrets Adonis once Said.

Sparkles of Frost Kiss the September Air,

Flourishing Silver without a Farthing to Spare,

Daylight Dancing askance the fields,

Lingering Warmth that Caresses, then Shields.

October is Waiting with rosy cheeked Fare,

Scarecrows and lanterns, ready to scare;

November is Focusing its Glassy Gaze,

Conspiring with Winter under a Leaden Haze.

Yet, now, ‘neath the Smile of Autumnal Delight,

Think not of Regrets; Feel not Contrite;

Leave such Diligence for Lengthier Days!

‘Tis time to sip cider while the Fiddler Plays.

Guise – A-Z #PoetryChallenge

Guise

.

Guise that Hides all I Am,

Ruse that Steals my Destiny,

Window Dressing of my Inner Me,

Sublime,

Discordant,

Inconsistency,

Masking She who Stands Long Waiting,

Listening to Starlight

Glistening,

Debating,

Guise that Mocks my Truest Being,

Pretext that Goes before me,

Shake and Shatter in this Light,

Of Pureness,

Whisperingly contrite,

and Mistake me not

When I am Seeking

To Gaze beyond your Tapestry,

Spin your Guile Before Others Eyes,

Yet Never Lie to me!

#FridayFictioneers – Glimmers – #FlashFiction

glitter

.

The house was old, a shadow of its former splendor.  Shadows seeped into its corners and cobwebs crossed its many halls, the only traffic those once busy corridors now saw.  A pale spectacle of late afternoon sunlight coaxed its way through the window perilously perched above the grand staircase, illuminating the past along with the present.

She stood, gazing upwards as clairvoyance whispered round her; suspirations of yesterday floating upon the stale atmosphere like ghosts.  Suspended above the stairs in a fragment of memory only she could see, a banner of sparkling light transposed the dimness.

Glimmers of yesterday, shouting.

Inward Space – #FlashFiction- #FFfAW

inward-space

.

The space was small, yet vast.  A corridor into the unknown; a portal into possibility and he gazed through the confusing labyrinth, contemplating his choice.  Inward or outward; up or down, the avenue toward what he sought yawned before him, perilous and strange, yet beguilingly inviting.

He had waited many long days for that moment.  The anticipation of opportunity thrilled through him with revitalizing electricity.  No longer would he be trapped in the mundane halls of this reality; a new realm waited, he only needed to choose.  Inward or outward; up or down?

Each prospect enticed him with a hint of mystery or the lush scent of the obscure, but he could only make one selection and, at last, he smiled.  His direction was clear.  He chose the realm where endless variety and challenge piqued his curiosity, inviting the vanguard of intrepidity.

Inward, into the undiscovered country of himself.
