V.P. Chandler received her B.A. in Literature from Southwestern University and has been a paralegal, a teacher, and a rancher.

The crazy escapades of ranch life, and the urge to document the fading history and culture of rural Texas, have fueled her life-long desire to write. She's a member of the national organization Sisters in Crime, the Heart of Texas chapter of Sisters in Crime, Austin Mystery Writers, and a moderator at Writer Unboxed.

Her short story, “Rota Fortunae”, appears in the anthology, Murder on Wheels and she's currently working on my debut novel, Gilt Ridden.

When not writing, reading, or taking care of her family, she's either singing with her church choir, playing percussion in community band, or learning new instruments.

The family who lived there had taken him in and let him stay there. I was wondering what his life had been like and why he ended up out in the middle of nowhere. (less)

I loved the characters and history. It’s been months since I read it and I still think about it. I’m definitely interested in the series now.

Excellent book. Burt’s descriptions are very vivid and place the reader in the story. I felt the pain, anxiety, and hope that the mother did. Once you get about 1/3 in it really takes off to the end. Some good twists I didn’t expect.

Great characters. Wright really puts you in 1940s L.A. The crime is quite sordid but Wright does a good job of giving the reader plenty of info without being graphic. Sagged a little in the middle but the pace quickens to a fantastic shootout and gre ...more

I read this years ago when I was in 6th grade. I couldn't put it down! A great adventure based on a "true" story.
Don't get caught up in whether or not it's true. It's historical fiction.
I have given away hundreds of books over the years but couldn'

Good and inventive, but like most of King's works, too long. It could easily have been 100 pages shorter. I also didn't like "the scene" with the kids. If you've read it, you know what I mean. I felt like it was unnecessary and detracted from the wor ...more

“Man was matter, that was Snowden's secret. Drop him out a window, and he'll fall. Set fire to him and he'll burn. Bury him and he'll rot, like other kinds of garbage. The spirit gone, man is garbage. That was Snowden's secret. Ripeness was all.”
