When I was reading this email, my finger was poised over the delete button on my phone, I couldn’t remember where I’d subscribed.
Then, you transitioned into something I’m all to familiar with, sacred cows.
As I’m sitting here typing this, it’s 5am and I’m halfway through a medical mission in one of the richest and most corrupt countries in Africa.
There’s no electricity right now so my phone’s about to die.
But I’d like to use the last three percent to muse about the sacred cow I’ve encount...

1. Free was limited to Kindle.
2. If I had a funnel that I knew converted on the backend, I would totally give away free physical books. That was not the case for me.
3. I released the softcover (createspace) version at the same time as the free book. Some people prefer physical and bought even while kindle was free.

Huh, I did not make that connection at all. I always think about the Hero’s Journey as a loop you only go around once but yea, I guess it is something you repeat over and over

Hey Taylor, like I said personally, I freakin’ love this. Few questions I’ll ask here so everyone can benefit from the answers:
1. Your process for providing access for free was limited to Kindle / ebook format correct? If not, did you just swallow the costs of soft/hardcover books as an investment?
2. Follow up: Do you think swallowing that cost is worth the trade-off, or untested / probably not?
3. If you did just offer free access to ebook format, when in the process did you release softc...

Great read! I find myself drawing a comparison between the hunting of the sacred cow and Joseph Campbell’s depiction of the hero’s journey which is another continuous and often lonely process of bringing the unconscious into the conscious (or the unknown into the known).
