New Year, New Stuff

Hey all!

I’ve been crazy absent in 2017. Well really, since I got back from VCC. Sorry about that… I got really caught up in the holiday season and getting things done, and picking up/finishing projects, and…

Well, there was a lot.

And this year is going to be CRA-A-A-ZY. So many fun things planned! One of them is already out: my new Royals of Monterra novella, Royal Rivals. I’m pretty fond of it. It’s a fun ride! Go ahead and buy it and read it. I’ll wait.

Just kidding.

The next project comes out TOMORROW! It’s from the Regency Timeless Collection (still can’t believe they asked me to join in!) and it’s called A Season In London. There are 3 novellas in one book, written by the fabulous Heather B. Moore, the crazy talented Elizabeth Johns, and me. All of the stories are different, but fall under the same topic of A Season In London. SO EXCITED for this! To join us in our release event, check out the Facebook page. It’s going to be AMAZING.

Okay, enough of that. I know what you’re all really wondering. When is Colin’s book coming out?

Well.

Colin’s book, The Burdens of a Bachelor, is actually in with the publishing team right now for edits and formatting and the whole bit. It takes a couple of months, but it’s slated for a release in early April, and so far we are right on track! Keep looking out for it!

So here’s my question. It’s a new year, and I want to do some good stuff to keep you all entertained. So tell me what you want! More blog posts? More fun stuff on Facebook? Pictures on Instagram? Tweets? Random behind the scenes stuff? Tell me what you want and we’ll see what we can make happen!

Alrighty, peeps, gotta go! Day job is calling, and I need to make the money to pay the bolls. Have a great Monday!

Remember When…

So I’d show you a picture of what I’m doing these days to prep for my upcoming book release, but I doubt you want to see me looking frazzled and panicked, so let’s just pretend I look fantastic and am perfectly calm, and remember that on time I had a party for my first published book!becky-and-book-square

Awwww, I look so cute! And young… Just kidding, this was last year, I don’t look much different. Except for the hair. And I’m way more stressed, but it’s fine!

Release day is coming!

Dedications

rtepage-dedications_logo_600dpi

Have you ever looked at the dedication page of a book? I’ve always wondered about that. Do you skim over it or read it to see who the book is dedicated to? Sometimes those things are pretty funny…

I always appreciate the funny ones. A good sense of humor is a gift.

For me personally, I have two dedications in every book. One that is sincere and genuine (yes, I CAN manage that, thank you very much) and one that is … not. I have a lot of fun trying to figure out dedications. It might be harder for me to pick the sincere one than the funny one, but that just speaks to my personality so take that for what you will.

The funny ones are getting funnier. I may start planning out my funny ones along with the plot lines just because.

Below are some funny dedications from books. Enjoy and laugh and check out my dedications to see what they are!

So funny… So, so funny.

Inspiration

inspiration-sign

I don’t know how many authors work, but for me, I get the most random bursts of inspiration from the most random things.

You already know I get a lot of inspiration and ideas from music and songs, and that’s not going to stop anytime soon, I can promise you that. New songs, new ideas. I’ll just keep coming up with more and more, and I’ll never run out of ideas!

But did you know I also get inspiration from places? It’s true! A few years ago, I was in an absolutely gorgeous part of the country enjoying incredible weather and sights, and BOOM! A story idea hit. It was completely different from anything I’ve ever done, but it came in fully formed, attractive leading man and all. I wrote everything down during the trip and the place became a character as much as my actual characters did.

My very first novel I ever finished, though, came from my own life. Well, a highly fictionalized, Regency set, combination of several things version of situations in my life that I twisted around to make suit the story… But you get the idea!

I’ve also gotten ideas from movie lines, TV commercials, Pinterest pins, jokes someone made on a Facebook post…

For the overactive imagination, the world is full of inspiration, and you just need to be open to receive it.

That was a good line! I should write that one down for future reference…

My friends always laugh when I start a text with “I’m having a thought” or “Idea.” Most of the time, the response is “Oh no” or “Again?”

Because one idea triggers another idea, and another, and another…and pretty soon I have another series lined up, and given my lineup, it could be five years before I get to it. But I don’t care! I love all my ideas!

I’m overloaded with ideas, all because inspiration is everywhere!

Find inspiration in your own life and see what happens!

Real Life

in_real_life_official_logo This is from a Canadian TV show, but it’s so cool, right???

Sometimes when I’m really in the writing groove, I tend to forget about my “real life.” Writing often feels more like a dream than anything else, but it’s not what I do all the time. I WISH I could do this all the time, how great would that be?

But in reality, I have a day job. A wonderful, challenging, stable job that provides me a much needed income and benefits so that I am able to write when I can!

This is the field I went to school for. I studied hard for. I took massive and seemingly impossible exams for. And when I introduce myself, I talk about this job.

Not the writing.

Why? Because it’s my “real life.”

I know, I REALLY AM a writer. But I’ve always been a writer. I was writing all throughout college and grad school and the jobs in between, before, and after. I’ve been writing FOREVER. The fact that I am now a PUBLISHED writer, which still makes me shake my head in disbelief, hasn’t changed that. I am a writer.

Real life makes that possible. We all have a real life to help us with our dreams, and I am no exception.

Real life gives me the opportunity to meet new people, to help them in the specific ways that I am able, and to take a step back from whatever projects I’m working on and engage with the real world. And you know what? Taking that step back usually helps me to get reinvigorated about what I’m working on. Or give me new ideas or perspectives. Or find new songs on the radio or Pandora station at work.

Not kidding, that has happened.

Sometimes “real life” can feel like it gets in the way. But guess what? It’s your REAL LIFE. You need that real life. It keeps you grounded and helps you grow, and it allows you to have your dreams. To work towards them. To have something to aim for. And when you get there? When you can have your dreams and they become the new “real life”? You’ll be better equipped to deal with that and will appreciate it so much more because it took REAL LIFE to get there.

Let your real life supplement and support your dreams, and you’ll be a lot happier. Promise.
