Scared but did it anyway challenge
At the end of 2018 I set a challenge for myself.
“Kim, you’re to do something each month that scares you.”

Pens click, papers shuffle, a foot taps to its own beat.
The dull drone of an air conditioner plays theme song to the melodic tones of the lecture as the professor speaks of conflicts where the individuals involved
suffer a second death as their names fade from memory.
Dynasties and empires rose and fell on the backs of those referred to in formulaic sentence.
“Tens of thousands died.”
“A million starved.”
“Loss of life was significant.”
Lives are lived in the footnotes of history books.

Purgatory of the Maybe
Insidiously intelligent, she sought knowledge like air,
absorbing the words of the page through her fingertip up into the heart of her.
She hollowed out hallowed ideas of the traditional and radical,
searching for lessons to learn to ensure she never chose wrong.
She pulled apart each decision,
examining the divergence of baseless threats and derailed diplomacy.
Fortuitous pragmatic plans enacted through legitimate intent that seek the common good.
