There is a great book called The Day Man Lost Hiroshima written by Japanese and American scholars from Kyoto University that made me rethink my position on it. If Russia would have invaded Japan on Aug 12th I think things would have been much worse in terms of the death toll. Stalin allowed 30 million Russians to die when Germany invaded and he went on to murder at least 40 million more Russians after WWII.

Thanks Indira. Yeah, it was pretty hard. This was about a guy I’d been friends with for over 40 years. I couldn’t overlook his racism anymore though and decided to cut ties with him. Sad way to end a friendship.

Mistakes maybe, but it’s pretty complicated. Hiroshima and Nagasaki were two of the most horrific events in history no doubt, but the Japanese Imperial Army was ready to sacrifice every last person to prevent a land invasion by both the US and Russia in the north.
