Interview with Nikki Payne, author of Pride and Protest
Today we have a special feature – an interview with Nikki Payne, whose book Pride and Protest is now available for pre-order! I’m so excited about this diverse retelling from a long-time member of the JAFF community. Actually it’s two interviews – a written one with questions from our authors and an amazing video interview by our own Elizabeth Adams. Elizabeth and Nikki hit it off so well that they talked for over three hours in the original, unedited video! Don’t worry – the one posted here ha...

Names, names, names
Hello everyone!
I have a different sort of post today. It’s not a new story. Sorry! I am actively writing and editing, though, and I’ll have ‘interesting news’ later this year. Instead, I thought I’d talk about names, specifically where I find them. I do get around to talking about The Marriage Bargain, including a scene from it, partly because it fits this post well and partly to celebrate the audiobook release (via Audible).
Obviously, naming characters is an important part of writing a story...

The Peculiarity of Mr. Darcy’s Mirror Preview – Available Now on Kindle, KU, and paperback!
Happy Wednesday, everyone! It’s a big day! As most of you know, I’ve been finishing up edits on The Peculiarity of Mr. Darcy’s Mirror, and we’re gearing up for a September 22nd release day. The preorder is live, so just click here to order!
So, let’s talk Mr. Darcy’s Mirror. Yes, at a first glance, it appears a modern, but there will be a large chunk placed in the Regency Period. It’s definitely a non-traditional, non-canon story, but it does have some canon scenes mixed in, but there are change...

Austen in the Classroom

This painting by Paul Sandby depicts the boarding school Jane Austen attended in 1785-1786. Source: Wikimedia Commons (public domain)
I return to posting with no little embarrassment. Indeed, I’m blushing like Charles Bingley in Lucy Marin’s fabulous short story, “The Travails of Charles Bingley.” Look at me, showing up in Meryton months and months after I departed without explanation! (But Jane, I have missed you—truly!)
I can make no excuses. Nonetheless, I will try: I had a heck of...

Summer Wrap-up and What’s Coming–Including a Release Date!!
It’s so difficult to realize we’re almost to September! My college/uni age daughter started her classes last week and my two high schoolers were off early this morning for their first day. Though I do enjoy having them at home, I am in a blessedly quiet house (Other writing moms should understand that feeling!) and avoiding the inevitable cleaning that should be done!

The happenings here over the summer: we had plenty of kitty naps, overhauled the fireplace and chimney, everything from a sn...

A Proper Introduction
Well, hello, there!
Yes, it’s been a minute. I’ve been doing a lot of “momming” this year, and when high-schoolers start going in different directions, we turn into taxi drivers, don’t we? Plus, we start to see just how fast we’re going to lose them… I’m going to cry now.
Okay, enough of that.
I do have another novella for you! It’s my first crack at an epistolic story, and it was fun to write. It’s an interesting format because a lot of life happens between the letters that we don’t see, so th...

The Travails of Mr Charles Bingley, Part 5
Happy Friday, everyone! I’m back with the conclusion of my summer short story. It’s long (longer than I would generally have a book chapter), but I decided against dividing it into smaller pieces. The links to the previous parts are here: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, and Part 4.
Thank you so much for reading along. I hope you enjoyed the story.
The Travails of Mr Charles Bingley, Part 5
In which we spend some time away from the hero of our tale—but we’ll get back to him
The only cause for regret El...

The Travails of Mr Charles Bingley, Part 4
I’m back with part 4! There is one more to go; it will be posted next Friday. You can find the previous parts here, here, and here. Thanks for reading.
The Travails of Mr Charles Bingley, Part 4
In which Jane Bennet and Charles Bingley meet again
As soon as the hour was appropriate, Bingley rode to Longbourn. He was equal parts excited and anxious. The last week and a bit had taught him a great deal, especially about being a kinder neighbour. Whatever else was happening last November, he ough...
