Mr. Darcy Came to Dinner 10th Anniversary

Mr. Darcy Came to Dinner 10th Anniversary, by Jack Caldwell

Greetings everyone. Jack Caldwell here.

Ten years ago, I published the funniest novel I have written to date: MR. DARCY CAME TO DINNER – A Pride & Prejudice Farce. I’d like to deeply thank those of you who have been so kind to read it, and a special thank you to those who have left a review! For y’all not familiar with the book, it is a variation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, blended with the classic Moss Hart and George S. Kauf...

A Gentleman of Worth – Chapter 1

Hi all! I’m gearing up for a release! I don’t have a concrete day set (a lot has been going on here to keep me busy) but I thought I’d start sharing some chapters to let you know what’s in store. This is Book 2 of The Montford Cousins,  a sequel to An Endeavour to be Worthy, so while Darcy and Elizabeth are in the story, they are not the focus. Anyway, I hope you enjoy!

Chapter 1

Late February 1812

The chandeliers glittered in the warm glow of candlelight while people milled about the grand ...

William, Fitzwilliam, and Fitzwilliam

Is it possible to have too many Williams? I like the name – very much, in fact. Even so, there ought to be a limit as to number.

One thing I’ve learned as a novelist is that you shouldn’t confuse your readers with character names that are too similar. If you’ve already got a Terry in the story, don’t name somebody else Jerry. If you have a Ron, don’t add a Don or a Rod. It’s even worse if the names are foreign-sounding, unpronounceable, and all begin with the same letter of the alphabet. Have yo...

Its release day! A Folly of Youth is now available!

Its release day for A Folly of Youth! You can get it at Amazon (read for free if you are a KU subscriber!) but before you go–hope you enjoy this excerpt! A little drabble from the substory, wherein Saye does his darnedest to make Lilly love him!

Saye stood in the Upper Rooms with Darcy—who was ill-humoured, having been made to watch some young bucks make love to Lady Cassandra all night long—observing the exquisite Miss Goddard as she stood with her cousin Mrs Drummond-Burrell. Saye detested Mr...

Sneak Peek: Here There be Dragon

Dilligently at work on the new book! About 2/3 of the way through and it’s time for a first peek inside. Straight from the Dragon Lady’s desk, we check in on Anne and Fredrick Wentworth!

August 23, 1815

Anne fastened her spencer and tied her hat in place with a double knot. It had taken some time, and an unfortunate toll on her headwear, to get accustomed to the constant wind so near the sea. Wentworth and Laconia paid it little mind, which made sense as it was as natural to them as the...

Excerpt from Chapter 2 of “Ramsgate”

Hello, Janeites! Happy May! I hope your year has been going wonderfully, and will continue to bring you joy!

Schroeder Boys L-R: 11 (5’7″), 16 (6’2″), 15 (6’1″)

As a busy mom of three handsome boys (I’m biased, I know), sometimes things get lost in the shuffle, and I go into cruise control. There are things that we know will happen with our children:  Timmy (our oldest) will always immediately do what we ask him; Mikey (Our middle) will always work hard at making everything as complete and ...

Bloom Where You are Planted – Lydia Blooms in Venice by Diana Birchall

From author’s collection

August was hot in Venice, as might have been expected, and the Darcy party sat outside in the garden, fanning themselves and taking some comfort from the shade offered by the olive and persimmon trees. There was no coolness to be derived from the canal below the terraces of the Palazzo Mocenigo, as no breeze stirred, that might dispel the odours of the warm water. The servants diligently brought drinks of lemon, and bowls of fruit and almond cakes were laid on the pretty...

Book birthdays

Hello everyone!

In April, I celebrate two book birthdays: The Recovery of Fitzwilliam Darcy (2021) and The Marriage Bargain (2022). Coincidentally, these are the books in which I altered Darcy’s circumstances the most. I find it an interesting exercise to alter the family dynamics of either Elizabeth or Darcy (or, why not, both!) and see what that means for their lives (as individuals and a couple) and how they navigate the world around them. Making radical changes to Darcy’s background might be...

Allow Me To Tell You: A Lighthearted Jane Austen Variation

So today wasn't supposed to be release day. My book was supposed to come out on April 20th, but I got a surprise when I woke up this morning. The book was live on Amazon!!!

I'm thrilled to see it, of course. For an author there's always that thrill of seeing your book published that never goes away.

Allow Me to Tell You is no exception. Some of you may know this, but it originally was supposed to be a short novella, but the characters insisted on staying with me, and I found myself getting more and more into it. Now it's a full-length novel and I think it has turned out very well indeed. More serious than I originally intended, but on the lighter side of romance.

In case you haven't seen the description, I'll give it here.

When Fitzwilliam Darcy makes a complete mess of his proposal at Rosings Park by writing a letter, there is more at stake than his hurt pride. The letter starts off a chain of events that have an immediate impact on the people around him, including Elizabeth. And adding insult to injury, Elizabeth is now threatened with ruin.

But Elizabeth will not be intimidated so easily. She insists Mr. Darcy is the last man in the world she would want to marry, and nothing will change her mind. To rescue her from an impossible situation, Colonel Fitzwilliam steps in, and asks for her hand in marriage.

Will it be an offer she can't refuse, or will Mr. Darcy find a way to earn her love?

Allow Me to Tell You is a sweet Jane Austen variation. It is a light-hearted, full-length romantic comedy that follows our beloved couple Darcy and Elizabeth through their journey of discovering each other.

I can't wait to see what you think of it!
