Mr. Darcy and the Governess Pre-Launch and Giveaway
It seems I’ve been storing it all up! I’m back today with an update about another Darcy and Elizabeth story that has me giddy and giggling. I do love a bit of good banter between these two. But here’s some news: Mr. Darcy and the Governess is scheduled to release on September 26!
This is a bit of a rollicking comedy/adventure story, but it’s filled with all kinds of sweetness, too. Darcy is SUCH a hero in this one! My goodness, I have to fan myself as I write. That man… (insert dreamy sigh).
We...
Throwback Thursday…on a Wednesday!
To write, or not to write…that is the question.
Happy Tuesday, fellow Janeites! I hope that you are safe from wild weather, earthquakes and hurricanes in your corner of the world and instead are able to curl up with a good book.
I feel like lately my life has been a blur. From teaching summer school, running the high school football program, losing my dear mother-in-law a few weeks ago, to starting school, all 3 boys in sports, running the senior class and trying to be a wife and mom, I do...

Part seven of my “short” story
Late summer greetings to you all! This month’s AV theme is inelegance –an intriguing motif for any writer! (Thanks to Diana and Joana for the theme idea, and thanks to Leslie for the graphic!)
While I had aimed to include the word somewhere in this post, I’m afraid the only inelegance you’ll find is in the mode of my storytelling!
(If you’re looking for earlier parts of this modern P&P story, you can find them here: part one, part two, part three, part four, part five, and part six.)
(Also, ther...

Summer Fun and a WIP Sneak Peek! by Jennifer Altman
Hello, friends! I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the last few weeks of summer.
Lately, I’ve seen many of my JAV colleagues sharing stories about their summer adventures, so today, I thought I would jump on the bandwagon and do the same. This time next week, I will be in what I always refer to as “my happy place” and I cannot wait. I’m really looking forward to having some downtime to unwind, relax, and hopefully work on my current WIP.
So, with that in mind, I thought I’d use today’s...
Mrs Bennet Makes a Match: Novella Announcement
It feels like I was just recently telling you about a new release, and yet, here I am again! Today, I am happy to announce that Mrs Bennet Makes a Match will be released on Monday, 2 October. (You may have seen a date later in the month on Amazon; the release has been moved up a few weeks for scheduling purposes.)
I’ll be back in four weeks (12 September) to reveal the cover (spoiler: it’s super cute) and share an excerpt. For today, I have the blurb.
There is surely something about him to admi...

Summer is Not Long Enough
I feel like this would be Elizabeth Bennet’s favorite time of year. The roads would be dry, she can keep her windows open at night to enjoy the cool breeze and the stars, and she could lie out on the grass with her favorite book. But I’m willing to entertain other notions. Let’s put it to a vote, shall we? What do you think Elizabeth’s pick would be?
A: Spring, because the flowers are fresh, the world is new, and everything feels green and alive.
B: Summer, because of what I said above.
C: Autum...
Happy Birthday to Anne Elliot!
Happy 236th birthday to Anne! Usually we’re in the dark about when our beloved Jane Austen characters were born, but Persuasion’s Anne Elliot is the exception. Usually even the year of their birth is uncertain, but thanks to Sir Walter’s narcissistic love of seeing his own listing in the Baronetage, we know Anne was born on August 9, 1787:
Sir Walter Elliot, of Kellynch Hall, in Somersetshire, was a man who, for his own amusement, never took up any book but the Baronetage; there he found occupa...

A Matter of Prudence Release Day!
If you missed my previous posts about A Matter of Prudence, you can find them here and here.
At last, release day for A Matter of Prudence has arrived! I don’t know why, but it seems like it has been a long time coming. Maybe it’s because I’ve wanted to write about the Bingleys’ scheming together for years. I was glad to also find a way to include another idea I’ve had floating around for a while now—Mr Collins living at Longbourn since childhood. For the last, you can blame my spouse. (I can sa...

Part six of my never-ending short story…
Happy August to you! Will my modern take on P&P never end? Who knows! Given how I can go on and on, I will attempt keep this intro short, except to say the following:
You all are the best! Thanks for continuing to read this still-untitled short story. (Any suggestions for a title?)You can find earlier parts of this short story here: part one, part two, part three, part four, and part five.As a heads up, there are non-graphic references to assault in this installment. To any readers who are su...July 30, 2023
Courage in Adversity
A few weeks ago I went on a short camping trip with my family, and as luck would have it, I found some material that’s ever so fitting for this month’s post. We camped in Dorset, within driving distance of Jane Fairfax and Frank Churchill’s Weymouth, and of the pretty village of Osmington, where John Constable took his wife on their honeymoon, and allegedly spent his days sketching the countryside, to the delight of a grateful posterity, but presumably not so much to his young bride’s delight, s...
