True and I have been collaborative drawing. I love doing this with him. We make a bunch of random marks and then we we see if we can find anything that we can make into something that resembles something else. In this one I created a figure around some marks that he made that we both thought looked like eyes. He also made a golf course in this one, a rainbow, and a house with a colorful roof. Love creating and learning from him. Go True go!

As a social worker, as a mom, as human being who highly values naming and talking about all the feelings with kids, I cannot say how much I LOVED watching Disney's Inside Out movie with True on this super rainy day. True has seen only three movies ever and this was his fourth and he devoured it, loved it, and was mesmerized. I love books and movies like these that give us parents some very real, dynamic, fully whole characters that we can call upon in conversation after conversation with our kids that not only deepen their understanding of life and feelings and the complexities of being alive but that also deepen our connection to one another. True is barely five and this movie was deeply profound yet he totally got it and it enhanced and made even truer all the stuff we've been talking to him about since he was born: that we all have feelings, that all the feelings are okay, that we gotta name them, let them out, and allow them to deepen and strengthen our connection to ourselves and one another. Go see this movie. Watch it with your kids. You will cry and laugh and never look at memories and all the associated feelings the same.

Tomorrow I am heading off on a solo solitude adventure. Today (and all week really) I've been soaking in all of this color, wetness, and scenery of yellow, reds, and oranges. By the time I get back in a week it's likely this will all be bare and brown and muddy. And that's okay too but man do I LOVE Autumn in Portland. Look closely and you'll see Lulu under our tree swing.
From three weeks ago when we got her to now. She is growing fast bit still a pup at 13 weeks. Go Lulu go!

This is what my home looked like in the wee hours this morning as I placed my suitcase in the car and headed to the airport alone. I'm on my way to AZ for a solo trip. I did this for the first time last year and it changed my life. And so. I'm making it a yearly solitude journey, a time and space to to be quiet, get nourished, read, sleep, eat well, challenge myself in new ways, breathe in spaciousness without schedules and lists and meetings and tv and computers and all the happenings that fill my usual life - which I love, but man do I love a solid mind/body/spirit retreat to renew. So here I go. Endlessly grateful. Endlessly.
Ps: This weekend as I prepared to go, I kept getting angel numbers. It's hard to give ourselves permission to do something like this though I know I'm teaching True what it can look like to take care of oneself. It's hard trusting that all will be well, that I will return home a little more awakened, that it was worth it. And so when the Angels send their signs, I listen. Thank you universe. I see and hear and trust you completely.

Yesterday when I arrived, I walked around the retreat campus, curiously wondering what would reveal itself on this solo week in AZ. Last year when I arrived here I was in profound need of some soul rearrangement, and by the time I went home I felt changed and spiritually awakened on some big macro levels. This time around, I'm not so sure what I'm here for. I'm in better spiritual shape this time around and I wonder if I'm here to learn and take home something a bit more on the micro level. Either way, I already feel more in tune, soul nourished, spirit awakened. And finding not one, not two, not three, not four, but FIVE hearts in a matter of a couple hours after arriving yesterday could not have been a better welcoming and confirmation that I'm exactly where I need to be. Sometimes being human is so hard but then there are these openings, these reminders to simply expand your heart and allow it to simply receive whatever comes rushing in. Wednesday, November 11

Remember who you wanted to be...

Pinch me. A thousand times, pinch me. I have so much to tell you. So much. In addition to climbing and then standing on and then leaping off the telephone pole, I've experienced and soaked in so much. Today was my third full day here. I've done meditation, yoga, photo walks, art walks, Pilates (which, hello, I LOVE). I also had an hour long session with the cutest 80 year old psychic ever (who was SO wearing her joy in gorgeous Indian saris) who told me I am doing exactly what I'm supposed to be doing, that I will collaborate more with the Angels, that I (and my biz) are in a time of expansion, that John is also super aligned as a stay at home papa, that we should not homeschool True (something we are considering), that San Diego is in my future somehow (???) and that a baby spirit is in the wings despite what we think or want to be possible! Ha! I also have been to a couple of lectures on intuition with Tejpal (love her) and another on Ayurveda, which DEEPLY resonated. Friends, my kapha dosha is unbalanced. Must work on that. The good news is that my vata and pitta doshas are all good. Meanwhile, in between all the reading, lounging, eating whole foods and learning, I've had a few Ayurvedic body massage treatments that had me falling asleep on the table. Friends, I still have two full days left. I feel incredibly nurtured, empowered, nourished, and inspired. This trip has confirmed for me that I've done a really good job of being gentle on myself and letting lots of stuff that needed going to go, and that I'm much more balanced in life than I ever have been, that I'm at peace, in joy. But now it's time to get a bit more focused and tuned in on daily nourishing routines that are 100% possible with a bit of attention and dedication. Pilates classes, here I come. More collabs with the Angels, yes please. More Ayurvedic treatments, here I come. I love this feeling of inspiration that comes when we travel and get outside of ourselves and our lives. Thank you renewal. I'm gonna bring you home with me. Xxo

Today we are shooting a video at the studio and this little Lulu is stealing the show. Kirstie Wight did my makeup today and I am loving it! Thanks Kirstie!

In progress. Love layers and layers and layers.

Today I'm fluffing the house a bit. I enjoy the meditative chores of picking up, watering plants, loving on each room. This is our mudroom. Once upon a time I painted and collaged that dresser. And once upon a time we converted a huge wooden column into a coat rack. Today I'm loving how the plant overflows. Makes me so happy.

I heart your heart because you inspire me to reach and grow. Because you've taught me so much above love, trust, friendship and hope.
Because you have been a witness to my life in progress, always showing grace in times when you could have shown judgment. Because when I think of those who have deeply, profoundly affected my life, I think of you.
Because you always know what to say, and how to kindly nurture my tender pieces (thank you)
Because you''ve laughed with me, cried with me, celebrated with me.
You see me clearly, and I see you.
May we always be connected in our traveling journeys, and may you always know how deeply you are loved.
How your life shines brightly, and how your heart is never alone.
I count my lucky stars for you, every single day.

This used to be my uniform. Skirt, tights, boots, cardigan. It's been a loooong time. The Wear Your Joy Project has inspired me do it again. Plus, these tights. Oldies but goodies. Also, this puppy is always at my feet. Love.

He's been really sensitive since we brought the puppy home. It seems he can't get enough of me. I'm trusting this whole adjustment process (all normal and expected) while also carving out lots of extra special time for mama/True dates, cuddles, play time, and adventures. I have to admit, I'm loving all the extra sweetness and cuddles. This little human has my heart, completely. Love how he finds hearts and love everywhere and shares it all with us.

Home Tour: True's Room!

Today I'm sharing a tour of True's room. It was one of the first rooms to come together, and we love how it turned out. Come take a peek...
This is what the room looked like when we bought the house:

And this is what it looks like now:

We painted the walls True's favorite color (specifically Marlboro Blue by Benji Moore paint). We also brought over one of our favorite vintage light fixtures from the old house. We love it here in this space. For toy storage, we use the closet, the dresser, baskets under the bed, and baskets throughout the room. Simple and perfect.

The orange striped curtains were made by my mom (thanks, mom!) and the fabric came from Fabric.com.

Did you know that you can get a poster photo made in an hour at Walgreens? I really wanted to bring in some elements of black and white, hence this photo and black focal wall art above True's bed.

The rusty vintage green bed is the bed that John and I used to sleep on for years. I love love love that it's True's bed now. The art above True's bed is this print of mine that I had blown up into a wall canvas.

The giraffe piece is by my friend Jennifer Mercede. I'm obsessed with her work. We use this giraffe piece as a growth chart. Love.

This bookshelf. It has had many, many homes. John made it for me from reclaimed wood back in 2006 when I was starting to paint. I needed a place to store my supplies and it had a special spot in my first couple of studios. It has a lot of sentimental value to us and I love that it now holds True's books (clearly, we are not tidy book storers) and other toys.

The chair in the corner is vintage, from the 40s or 50s. It once belonged to John's aunt. He has fond memories of sitting in this chair at her house as a kid. I love that we have it here in True's room. The "True love" painting is a gift from another one of my favorite artist friends, Pam Garrison.

We hung up some of his artwork with washi tape. Love the imperfectness of that.

Sock monkeys and lovies. And hot air balloons. I cannot remember for the life of me where I found these (so sorry!).

I printed the large version of my Dear Child Manifesto and hung it up in his room along with some other sweet photos.

And there you have it! I loved putting this room together. It's been a long time since we did it, but if you're interested in seeing True's reaction when he saw it for the first time decorated, you can check out that video here (SO CUTE and also, he's grown so much since then!).

NEW ART – Our Hopeful Home

Our Hopeful Home – Available here
I recently created this new piece in the manifesto series. As we've been settling in our new home and making it a place where memories are held, I felt inspired.
Our homes hold so much living, no? The transitions, the tender moments, the fierce ones, the treasures we love and hold dear. I believe in ceremony and ritual. I believe in naming our homes. I also believe in creating declarations like the art piece above as a way of inviting in all that we want to invite into our homes. An intention holder, a reminder of the sacredness of having a place to call home.
I hope you like it.

Home Tour: The Family Fort!

I can't believe I'm still doing room tours when we moved in to our new home over a year ago. I've learned it takes that much time to get settled!
Today I'm sharing a tour of the room we call our "Family Fort" - it's big room on the second level of our home where we watch movies, play games, rough house, and more. Sometimes we call it the Tree Fort because the windows look out onto two huge trees. We had some help visioning and styling this room from our friends over at the Boys Fort - one of our favorite shoppes in Portland. We LOVE this room!
Take a look:

The Eames Chair is a reproduction that we had reupholstered in Pendleton fabric. LOVE! Also loving the vaulted ceilings in this room. John had a great idea to place one of our old ladders we had hanging around in our old garage above the windows. We ran with it and then he strung some lights on it, too. Love, love, love.
And our globe collection above the ladders sings.

The big yellow pouf came from Schoolhouse Electric - another fave Portland spot. True loves jumping, singing, and sliding off of it. It's hard to see here, but to the right of the couch is a corner filled with large plants. We put a ton of plants in this room, which makes me wildly happy and goes along with our treehouse feel.

We piled the couch up with pillows as I don't think you can ever have too many!

We've had this map forever and I'm so glad it finally found a good place to hang. The sconces are from Restoration Hardware.

I created some hanging terrariums with some soil, rocks, and air plants and hung them from the ladder. LOVE! And the metallic deer is from Home Goods.

The wallpaper!!!! We chose to accent the TV wall with this iconic wallpaper to keep the tree house fort feel and I'm so happy with it. The TV stand is made by a papa/son duo here in Portland. The giant stag above the TV is also from Restoration Hardware.

My dad made us this awesome light stand and presented it to us on Christmas morning. How amazing and cool is this? An heirloom....

My dad also made this storage piece. We used it as a room divider in our old house (in the basement). I love it in this space. It holds games, videos, and more.

Loving that sweet pic of John and our sweet Bella doggie.
Since these photos were taken, we changed a few things. Mainly we added a rug (Pottery Barn) and layered it with the blue-grey shag rug:
We love the layered rug look!

Hey friends! Episode 4 of the Possibilitarian Podcast is up!! For this episode, we received a FANTASTIC listener question on how to create a cohesive style when is "all over the place" creatively. This episode is full of practical advice, plus insight on creating from the heart, listening to your intuition, and letting "the universe rush in." And yup, the giggles are totally back!

I am crazy excited! My angel painting class Spirit Wings that will help inspire and manifest your dreams is now open!

So much intention AND community AND techniques AND more. I can't wait to see the pieces that will come out of this class. All levels welcome!

Truth: I've been super sick for days. You know how when you've been really sick and all you've been doing is sleeping and being uncomfortable and aching and all you want is major nurturing and comfort? This morning I watched Brene Brown Super Soul Sunday episode and got a huge does of medicine. Truly, so good. Watch it, friends!
Thursday, October 8

You guys. I'm still sick. Worst part? I'm missing out on a gathering of creative friends that has been in the making and planning for a long time. Miss you Mati Rose, Pam Garrison, Allen Designs Studio, Katie Daisy, Anahata Katkin, Emily McDowell. Jennifer Mercede But the best part? We got Lulu Butter Butter Bean a couple days early to lift my spirits. And let's just say that she is hilarious, chill, sweet, and has definitely lifted my spirit.

Puppy's first Autumn. She was born Aug 3. Does that make her a Leo? Monday, October 12

It's her first day at the studio and she's looking really comfortable I'd say! This dog kills me. Also, biz mgr extraordinaire Betsy Cordes is here!

Today was a great first day back at the studio after a week of sick. Not only did Lulu come to the space for the first time. But Betsy and I had a great day with VP of Product Development Peter from my loooong time licensing partner Demdaco. Cannot wait to share more of what we are cooking up! I love that I love what I do and those I do it with.

Nichole fell in love with our new studio doggie today. Thank God for Nichole and thank God she LOVES puppies.
