Going 'Indie' #3 - Amazing Support

I have a vivid imagination, I’ve known that for a long time. When my nephew was a little boy, and I babysat him... gosh... I was able to see all the possibilities that could happen to him. Not to mention that I had seen him on the balcony, where my sister and my mother allowed him to be, I had a hard time to be relaxed as I was able to see a '1000' possibilities of how he could hurt himself – especially falling over the balcony. Yes, all the possibilities I had seen were bad things. Rarely good ones.
So yes, I can imagine things and this helps with my writings. Well, what kind of fiction writer would I be without my intense imagination, right?
But what I hadn't imagined was all the support from the Writers' and Readers' communities I got when I announced that I'm going 'Indie' style.
So many of you contacted me; by Email, Twitter, Facebook's PMs and offered me your help and support at the re-launch of my novel ‘All That the Heart Desires’
This was kind of surprise for me, to be honest. I didn't expect that. I didn't expect it as a long time ago I learnt that that's the best thing to avoid disappointment.
There are so many of you who did that, to mention only few would be unfair. So for all of you...

Going Indie #2 ~ Book cover

I always thought that choosing the right cover for your novel can't be hard.
I picture perfect covers for my novels when they were and are still in WIP status. You know how it goes. It's everything right there, within the story. As an author I knew what I want. But, not everything goes as smooth as sliding down the slide.
I often wondered how come that authors choose to ask their readers, friends, followers... etc... about which cover to chose. I was pretty sure I'd never do that. Boy was I mistaken.

So what happened?
In the process of 'going indie' the first thing I wanted to sort out was - the cover!
I contacted quite few cover artists and at the end I decided to hire Elle from EJR Digital Art
After I fulfilled her information form, she sent me only few days later three cover between which I had to make a choice.

I immediately liked two and discarded the third. Although I liked both that were left, there were some minor things that bothered me. So I asked her to do some tweaks and not long after that she returned me her revisions.

They were... not something I really liked. I asked for some more tweaks and hoped I'd be able to make a decision in an instant I'd see them.

Yeah, right. In my dreams!!! I stared at them for - basically - hours and was unable to make a decision. Both covers were beautiful and both had strong points why should I pick either of them.

So, what did I do? I asked my husband and some of my closest friends what do they think. The scales was even for a long time. The dice has fallen when both my daughter Loris and my mum both picked the same.

I made it through the first obstacle.

By the way - the book cover will be revealed between 16th and 20th of May. Not long now...

Going "Indie style"

Recently I got back my Author's rights for my first novel that was published by Safkhet Publishing, so the novel, Racing Heart, as it was published is no longer available on any Amazon sites.
I have a faith in my novel. I really do. That's why it was not hard for me to decide to try and self-publish it.
One thing is very true; Self-publishing is not for the sissies , as one of my fellow authors Lizzie Lamb tells us in her advert for her workshop she will have on 14th of May in The Wiltshire & Swindon History Centre. Unfortunately I cannot attend the workshop myself as I'm just too far away, but I'm sure she has some pretty good stuff to share with us writers.

My novel title was changed by the publisher, with my consent of course, from the one which I initially had titled it. But I decided to return to its initial title and to get a completely different cover too. Those were not tough decision. I know what I want and I’m going to go for it.
But there are so many other different things an author, who decide to self-publish, must decide.
My first decision I had to make was: Do it all yourself or hire people to do it for you?Well, I'm well aware I cannot do everything, so my decision was to hire others, professionals. I decided if I'm going to put my novel back on sale, I'll do it properly.
Inevitably, the work began. And you know what? So far so good.
The title is fixed. The cover almost ready to be revealed. But... yes, there is always “a but”, give me few more days. I'll definitely reveal it soon enough. Just watch this space.

Patience and Juggle

Patience was never the strong part of me. I have learned to be patient - I was forced to learn how to wait patiently, due to the most unfair thing, but that is a completely different story. I had to learn the hard way that everything comes in its own good time.
And you can be sure - it doesn't mean I like it.
Right now I'm waiting for several things to come to their final stage, and it’s eating my guts out.

But that doesn't mean I forgot about you - although it looks like. I’ll come with some exciting news soon… Promise.

The truth is out

For a quite some time some of my friends have suggested that I finally come out with the truth, what is the real name behind June Moonbridge. It's a bit funny, to be honest, because I basically convinced myself that the truth is well known, but it looks like - it's not.  First of all, those who don't know about what am I writing - here are some facts:  - the name 'June Moonbridge' is a pen name  - June Moonbridge (humble me) published a debut novel in English Racing Heart (with Safkhet Publishing) in year 2015. Available to download on any Amazon site, like http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ZXRYESO for only 0,99€/0,99$/0,99£.  - for all the years I've been writing I was writing under pen names and here are just a few I used in the past:  ~  Eri Krt (three published books in my little country) ~ Patrick Cloud (published stories in a magazines - way, way back - yes it's a male name) ~  Sophie - gosh I can't even remember what last name I used (published stories in a magazine - way, way, way back) ~  probably there were even more names that I can't remember. I can tell you that if you look for those names, you won't find them. Except if you're from Slovenia, then you'll find Eri Krt as an author of three novels published at the beginning of the millennium, and you'll find my three novels in libraries - but be sure, they are out of the sales for a long time now.  Other names, I don't think you'll find anywhere except if you have any old copies of the magazine Ljubezenske zgodbe (Love stories) which - you won't believe it - I do have... ;) People often asked me and are asking me how I came up with a certain pen name. For all those I listed above (except for the June Moonbridge) all I was ever able to say was: "Gosh, I don't know."  For a certain time I probably did know, but the 'knowledge' was lost as life was happening. So when I decided to write in English and when I started to look for a publisher beyond our borders I have chosen for myself the new pen name - June Moonbridge sounded perfect although I had several others in my mind, but the truth be told, I wanted a unique one...  Being a Gemini it never felt strange for me to use a pen name. There are so many different aspects to me of me, that basically and even if it sounds strange, those aspects, those personalities craved for a different name than the one my parents (and my husband) gave me. One of the reasons why I started to write under a pen name is described under 'About me' - yes it was my high school teacher who disliked everything I had written. So, I wanted second/third/fourth opinions and pen names were required. The reason why I chose a pen name over my real one now - so many years after finishing high school, was - I somehow wanted to separate my 'real' life with my writing one. I'm weird, I know.  But somehow it looks now it was not really a good decision. The world became a global village and with Facebook and Twitter and other social media we can reach and make connection to the cities, the countries and let’s face it - the continents to which in my teenage years were able to reach only with real letters (I had many pen friends around the world during that time) and it took time to get them around the globe.  So, before I published my first novel in English, I've made a circle of friends (yes, friends) through Facebook under my real name. Some of you I informed about the fact who June Moonbridge was/is. Some I missed or I thought that the truth is already out and known to the public. It looks like it was/is not.  So here it is - the real name (and face) behind pen name of June Moonbridge:
Petra Rovere . Yes, that's me. Shocking? I hope not. So if you ever cross June Moonbridge, Author on the Facebook or Twitter, take a minute and say 'Hi!' I'll definitely greet you back.
