Sweater Weather Mug by Rudie Jo (buy it here)Monthly Theme: Sweater WeatherThe time between Halloween and Christmas is usually pretty cozy. It’s time to curl up in front of a fireplace with a good book and a cup of hot cocoa, because “sweater weather” is here! This month’s theme can be interpreted as broadly or as specifically as you want. Here are some prompts to get you going:
Review a book, movie, TV show, song, or video game that shows us what “sweater weather” means to you. Perhaps Taylor Swift’s Folklore album is all you want to listen to on a cool November afternoon. Maybe it’s a book that gives you the warm-and-fuzzies. Set the ~mood~.Review a movie or TV show with an iconic sweater-wearing character, like Anne Hathaway’s “cerulean” blue sweater in The Devil Wears Prada or Chris Evans’s cozy jumper in Knives Out. Review the show itself or a sweater, sweater-wearing character, or meme about a sweater.Review an actual sweater. Become a fashion reviewer and review a sweater brand, or the experience of crocheting a sweater, or the sweater you stole from your sister’s closet. Write a rant about fast fashion if you want! Is your Shein sweater unravelling as we speak?Make a rank list: “Top Ten Most Iconic Movie Sweaters.” “Top Five Sweater-Weather Movies.” “Twenty Ugly Christmas Sweaters To Die For.” Even Vogue’s done one:Review one of Vogue’s “Eight Best Sweater Movies for Fall.”Review something cozy — the idea of “sweater weather” doesn’t have to be taken so literally. Review a book or show that takes place around Thanksgiving, or in a cabin, or that includes a fireplace or a storm. Heck, just review the weather if you want. Storms, snow, fog, clouds!Remember, these prompts are designed to inspire your creativity and encourage you to write engaging reviews. (And of course, not all reviews submitted to Reviewsday need to follow the theme. Unrelated stories will still be published, they just won’t be eligible for the prize.)
Feel free to personalize these topics according to your preferences, or submit something totally unexpected: other entries related to the monthly theme are welcome and encouraged!
Good luck to everyone who participates!
I will be announcing the winner of October’s monthly theme prize soon.

Monthly Theme 4: Entries & Winner
Photo by Logan Isbell on UnsplashAs I mentioned in the previous newsletter, the Reviewsday Tuesday Monthly Theme for August 2023 was “Vacation,” but — perhaps due to the summer holiday itself — we had a bit of a slow month. So this month I’ve decided to pool the August and September entries into one highlights post featuring both stories celebrating “Vacation” from August and those from the September 2023 theme, “Back to School.”
The winner of September’s Monthly Theme Contest will be announced at the bottom of this post, but first, let’s review all the wonderful entries from August and September. I hope you’ll join me in reading, clapping for, and commenting on the reviews below!
(Note: Yes, I’ve included my own stories in this wrap-up, but don’t worry, I didn’t consider myself in the running for the prize! Can you imagine?)

🖊️🚌⭐🥇🏆The Winner 🏆🥇⭐🚌🖊️The winner this month, appropriately, is Monica Ray, M.Ed, MS, for her review of Netflix’s “Addams Family” show, Wednesday. This review was expertly crafted to draw you into a narrative of what Monica’s experience was like watching this show — from it being recommended by a Covid-conscious hairdresser, to spending quality time with her teen daughter — and reviewed Wednesday in a way that felt downright personal, in addition to being well-written, informative, and funny.
I appreciated Monica’s perspective as a parent and a teacher sharing her insight into the show’s depiction of a private school system — albeit, one for supernaturally-inclined teens — and what her daughter got out of the show.
Congratulations Monica! Reach out to me in a private note with your PayPal address to arrange payment.
