RT Report #1: JK Rowling started with napkins too

After my luggage experience and epic flight to the RT Convention, my con experience truly kicked off on Wednesday. It wasn't easy, though. Orlando, while beautiful and sunny, is also three hours ahead of Seattle's time zone, and I stayed up pretty late socializing on Tuesday. That made it kind of rough getting up at 8am the next day. Fortunately, I had a hearty breakfast to help me through the morning:

Oh, Perkins. I haven't seen one of these restaurants since the last time I was in Kalamazoo. Ev

Got baggage?

Today finds me in beautiful, freezing, arctic Florida. Okay, actually, it's pretty nice outside. I'm referring to my hotel room. Man, I'd forgotten what it's like to be in places that rely heavily on air conditioning! COLD. But how did I get here? Let's back up.

This week is the Romantic Times Book Lovers Convention, a yearly con of epic proportions that changes location. I headed out here yesterday with Mark Henry and his wife Caroline. We flew out of Seattle on Continental, an airline I don't u

Blood Promise page count

I get a lot of questions every day about assorted issues with Blood Promise. I sound like a broken record, but I really can't emphasize enough how much I recommend my FAQ page. Answers really will be faster over there, and it has some of my post popular questions: Is there going to be a movie? When will the first chapter be up? Can you help with my school project? Etc.

The other day, though, I got a question I haven't addressed much, so I thought I'd bring it up today. When a new book listing go

Broadway Review

So, first off, let me say it right now: [info:] lolcatz and I went and saw Cats last night. There. It's out. I know there are a lot of Andrew Lloyd Webber playa haters out there (Urban Dictionary's spelling, not mine), but that's okay. Keep your musical cynicism; I'll take my culture. I was raised on this stuff. Well, kind of. I was in band through middle and high school, and our director was a big fan of ALW and similar-styled 1980s-created musicals. So, for field trips, we saw things like Phantom of

Norwescon Weekend Recap

I'm happy to say I survived my third Norwescon this last weekend. This was a low-key one, but like always, it had the usual assortment of characters, corsets, pro-parties, and rum getting smuggled into panels. And, if you're going to a con, it's always requisite to have a group of con buddies to hang out with before, during, and after panels. Mine this year were tried and true pals Mark Henry and Kat Richardson; potential Team Seattle pledges Lisa Mantchev and Mark Teppo; visiting author extraor

New Tour Dates

As promised, here are some new tour dates for this spring. These are public signings that you can either bring books to or purchase books there. As always, if there are books you want to get before the signings, I'd encourage you to buy them from the bookstore that's hosting! They do a lot of work, and it's nice to show support if you were going to buy a new book anyway.

Here we go:

Saturday, April 25 - Orlando, FL - 11am-2pm
Romantic Times Book Fair
Wyndham Orlando Resort

More deal news, plus a con this weekend!

Well, the deal news is still coming. I'm happy to announce that I've just signed on with Kensington Books to do two more in the Eugenie (Dark Swan) series. This is pretty exciting because I love Eugenie, and after just finishing Thorn Queen, I'm pretty psyched to keep writing more. Fans of her may also be happy to know that her release cycle might speed up a little. Those books take a year to come out, and I think it might be a little less now. The cost is that this might alter Georgina's sche

Comic beer

This is just a quick post since I'm attempting the nigh impossible feat of getting some work done today and actually hanging out with a friend. I know, I know. Hubris, huh? When I get a bit more time, I intend to write up a post with overall reflections on Ireland--including how the Irish have developed all sorts of advanced technology that they aren't sharing with the rest of the world. I'm on to them, though.

For now, I just have a couple of pictures to share. The Seattle ComiCon--excuse me, Em

Explanation about the last post

A few people were confused about the way the deal works that I wrote about in the entry before this one (check it out for the cool news!), so here's a breakdown I posted on Facebook. Hope this clears things up:

For those asking, here's how the new young adult deal works. It's a little confusing. Right now, my old contracts were signed for these books:

1. Vampire Academy
2. Frostbite
3. Shadow Kiss
4. Blood Promise
5. Untitled so far

That was supposed to be it for Rose's story. Now, with the new contrac

All the news that's fit to print

[info:] lolcatz and I got back to the land of our birth on Wednesday evening after almost 12 hours of flight time. It actually went fast for me because I slept for about 5 hours of the 8 hour Dublin to Chicago leg, which was pretty handy for kicking me back to Pacific time. Getting through customs and whatnot was pretty snappy. They had special lines for U.S. residents that went quickly, though the agent there was not nearly as friendly as the Irish one. There were no female driver jokes, alas.

Anyways
