Un-Scary Selfie

If you want to be in a selfie, then YOU wear this!

I haven’t even started and I already got rudely interrupted!

It's a good thing you don't need thumbs for a touch screen

Anyhow, here’s the plan: I’m in my skeleton costume in front of my haunted house so I can do a scary selfie! Once I have every thing set up, I’m going to put on my best scary face and frighten all of you! So let me get it set up here.

Don't worry - no iPhones were hurt in the taking of this photo

Oops! I think this one kind of scared my human — I am using her iPhone.

I just look like a perturbed hostess

It went off too soon — I didn’t get a chance to say, “Boo!” yet.

Yeah, I'm not shaking in my paws either

I look about as scary as a plushie here! Oh well, I hope you enjoyed my selfies anyway.

Saturday Catinee: (Not-So) Haunted House

Summer's Saturday Catinee

Look what my human came home with the other day!

Boo!

Can you see me?

My human is a thief!

She got it unintentionally for free. She ordered it online from Target, to pick up at our local store, and put it on her card. So she went down and got it that night and a couple of days later, received a notice saying that since she hadn’t picked it up she was not going to be charged for it. She didn’t know how to solve that — take it back to the store and say, “See? I did get it!” or something? So she didn’t say anything and just kept it. I hope I don’t get in trouble as an accessory. It’s bad enough she made me wear last year’s skeleton costume to pose with it.

Instructions and my human don't get along!

I was worried when I saw it needed to be assembled and came with instructions! I know my human is not that good at those.

What a relief! I looks like the photo - maybe even better!

But luckily, it was easy to put together and my human didn’t even ruin any of it.

I am haunting my haunted house

I was nice and posed with it, but my human began to think I wasn’t all that enthused about it because after the photo session, I mostly ignored it.

It's what you would call a subtle cue

But later that day, she saw me hanging out with it! That meant I liked it. Sometimes a kitty just prefers being near something (or someone) she likes. She does not have to be all over it. But a little while after that, her boyfriend actually picked me up and put me in it, and I started playing in it! Which brings me (finally!) to today’s Catinee — me playing in the haunted house!

If you can’t see the above video, click here to watch it on YouTube!

But I like it better!

Oh yeah, and Binga likes it too!

Pure Love for Pets Prizes!

Are they a pretty pair?

My Purina Pure Love for Pets winner, Timmie — and her new family member, Posey (she’s the smaller girl with the cute white dot on her nose) got their prize package last week and sent me a photo!

My human has been lazy about brushing my teeth

And guess what? We got the very same prize package around the same time, as a thank you for helping out with the campaign!

I don't have time to wait for humans

I couldn’t wait for my human to finish opening the box — I dived right in and did it myself.

I think she's been taking lessons from Binga

Wait a minute! Why is Boodie in my spot?

Maybe she was just being my stand-in

As you can see, it’s a pretty nice sampler package! Plus a pretty awesome box. Thanks, Purina!

P.S. If you subscribe to my newsletter, make sure you open next week’s!

10 Cool Halloween Etsy Items for Humans and Cats

I'm a GOOD witch!

My human is still trying to find a witch hat to fit me — and failing! But I let her put this one on me so I can be festive for today’s post. I’ve put together a variety of cute Halloween Etsy things for you, from decor to jewelry to fun cat toys! I hope you enjoy them.

Halloween Rag Wreath

Halloween Rag Wreath

Made of three yards of black burlap, this festive Halloween wreath is fun and not too spooky! From Lynn H Designs.

Paw Reading Sign

Paw Reading Sign

If your human can do paw readings, color me impressed! At least she can pretend she can, with this 5″x12″ sign made of Baltic wood. Each one is handmade and hand painted, so the one you get will be unique! From Caney Springs Crafts.

Home Sweet Haunted Home Sign

Home Sweet Haunted Home Sign

What a cool wooden wall hanging! It’s 10″x10″x3/4″ and thick enough to stand on its own or hang on a wall. Either way, it’s got a nice vintage feel. From Meg and Mo’s Clubhouse.

Halloween Needle Felted Black Kitten With Pumpkin

Halloween Needle Felted Black Kitten With Pumpkin

Isn’t this one-of-a-kind needle felted kitten adorable? It’s 6″ high, so it’s actually a good size for a needle felted critter! From Amirali Felt.

Retro Smiling Black Cat Halloween Pendant

Retro Smiling Black Cat Halloween Pendant

This wild retro cat face looks like it could be from the 1930s, but this pendant with an 18″ chain is handmade by the seller, with the image sealed under a raised glass cabochon with a bronze or silver plated setting. From Cheshire Kitty Corner.

Handcrafted Black Cat Halloween Altered Art Bamboo Tile Collage Bracelet

Handcrafted Black Cat Halloween Altered Art Bamboo Tile Collage Bracelet

What a beautiful, unique bracelet! It’s made from bamboo tiles and the digital altered art images are protected with several coats of high gloss sealer. Add the pretty silver toned metal spacers and it’s a piece everyone will notice! From Altered Tile Designs.

Skeleton Cat Pincushion

Skeleton Cat Pincushion

I love this little guy! My human is terrible at sewing, but I know it is a craft that a lot of you other humans enjoy. Wouldn’t you like having this cute pincushion around while you are working? He’s actually a good-sized 5-1/4″ high and comes with 10 assorted pins. From Fat Cat Crafts.

Halloween Spider Catnip Cat Toys

Halloween Spider Catnip Cat Toys

With summer gone and cold weather settling in, there aren’t as many real spiders for us kitties to play with, so get yours this set of two spider cat toys! They may even be better than the real thing because they contain catnip! From Cherry Willow.

Candy Corn Organic Catnip Cat Toy

Candy Corn Organic Catnip Cat Toy

Its not Halloween without candy corn, and this version is safe for kitties because it has no sugar, but lots of catnip! Each toy is 3″x2-1/4″ and yes, there is a catnip-free version, for you cats that are designated drivers. ‘Cause that’s the only reason I can think of foregoing catnip. From Fido the Cat.

Freddy Krueger Catnip Cat Toy

Freddy Krueger Catnip Cat Toy

I think this is my all-time favorite cat toy because it gives us kitties a chance to put that dangerous Freddy Krueger human in his place! Your humans will have no reason to be scared because you are there to protect them. At 8″x5″, Freddy is just the right size for bunny kicking! From Cattywampus Cat Toys.

I hope you enjoyed my picks! Do you have a favorite?

Disclosure: Links above are affiliate links, but I picked out these items because I thought they were awesome!

Another Hat Check

The moment we got home from Palm Springs my human had to get busy finishing up the royalty statements for Rescued (you can buy the book here!). So to make it easy on her, I thought I’d post some of the photos that didn’t make it into my sombrero post. There were a lot of them!

They were especially GOOD treats!

This one, for example… I went for the treat first and forgot to pose!

Size matters not! Judge me by my size, do you?

Somali cat ears should be wide set… but this is ridiculous!

My eyes look like they are two different sizes!

This was a head tilt pose gone horribly wrong.

I'm lucky my face didn't freeze like that

I have no explanation for this.

In case you are wondering, it was freeze-dried chicken

And I’m ending it like I began it — with a tongue shot! If you look closely, you can see treat crumbs all over the rug.

Heavy Cat Show Competition!

I'm just here for the treats... and some chicken out of my human's sandwich

My human brought me to a cat show in Palm Springs, and it was a tough one! But before I get into that, I want to tell you about the hotel room I stayed in.

Sadly, Bird TV was off for the night

My human was not thrilled that the wifi was a bit wonky, but I liked it because there was a nice window view — and ledge to enjoy it.

Never any peace!

Unfortunately, there wasn’t much privacy! My human kept peeking under the curtain if she didn’t know where I was.

Play acting my version of the Headless Horsecat

I loved the bed and spent a lot of time messing around on it! Can you find my head?

I think it's 17:67?

The clock was a little weird. Luckily my human uses her phone as an alarm clock so we could get to the cat show on time!

Blue cards for boys and pink for girls - remember that if you go to a cat show!

Here is why this weekend’s cat show was so hard for me! The boy, number 150, was my competition (I’m number 151, in case you didn’t know). You can’t see him very well in this photo, but he is bigger and fluffier than me and he kept getting Best Somali over me, even though the judges often liked me too.

I almost did use it, though!

For me, however, cat shows aren’t just about competing against other cats. I also visited with my latest advertiser, Almost Invisible Cat Litter! I really do use their litter… but I managed not to use their display.

He won several fans at this show!

My human also got to watch my younger half brother in some judging rings! He is just six months old and he is doing very well, considering that he is a blue Somali. Even though he has lots of amazing qualities and warmth to his coat — and personality — it is harder for him to make it to finals because he is blue! The ruddy colors, like me, often get favored over other colors of Somalis (in case you are wondering, blue is a dilute version of ruddy), and the males, like my competition, get favored over females. That’s just the way it is. But he got some finals and impressed quite a few judges because his quality couldn’t be denied.

I'm still glad that was over!

And I did get some finals too! Even though this was not an easy show for me, I still got to enjoy myself and visit with some really nice judges.

In the Mirror Selfies

I think I need a fur touch up

I was in Palm Springs for a cat show this weekend! So the first thing I did after my human and I checked in to the hotel was look in the mirror to see how my groom bath came out. Then I realized that this was the perfect time to shoot some selfies. Isn’t this where lots of humans do them?

The first time is always blurry

So I got it all set up and did a test shot… which did not come out well. They never do.

Can you see my brain working here?

Then I realized… I’m in front of a mirror, so why don’t I use it in my selfie?

Already I'm liking it better

So I did a test shot… which came out blurry, of course! And I realized I was going to have to place the iPhone farther away and put it on a timer.

I wasn't sure which way to look!

Much better! I hope you like it!

Saturday Catinee: Proud of My Catch!

Summer's Saturday Catinee

Last weekend was a two-day cat show and my human was exhausted on the second day because I went hunting at 1 A.M. and look what I found!

Aren't you PROUD of me?

I had been waiting for that moment for weeks! I knew that critter was hiding in the bathroom somewhere and I finally found her! My human really wanted to just go to bed, but she could tell catching it was going to be a team effort. First, however, she shot a short video of me in action! Don’t worry, neither the critter nor I suffer any damage. In fact, I kept leaving the frame go headbutt my human because I was so happy about my catch!

If you can’t see the above video, click here to watch it on YouTube!

Could you hear the little thing cursing me out? Finally my human got a plastic container, and I cornered her, then chased her into it. So my human and I caught her together!

I think she was actually kind of relieved to be away from my fearsome grip!

As you can see, she is a young rat. And how do I know it is a she? My human looked through the bottom of the container and didn’t see any boy parts!

This is a momentous day... or rather, night

Before my human took the rat way out to the far end of our property to let her go, I posed with my catch. I wanted to look like a professional hunter, so I posed very solemnly.

I can't even enjoy my catch without her butting in

And you just had to figure somekitty had to photo bomb the shot. Can you see her ear in the foreground?
