Gone! Poof!

This is so damn sad …

Filosofa's Word

This is Greenville, California, just a few short weeks ago …

This is Greenville, California, today …

Quite a change, yes?  A whole town … gone.  What you are seeing is the devastation left behind by the Dixie fire, now listed as the state’s 2nd largest fire in California’s history.  What you are seeing is a result of the coal and oil industries and their purchased members of Congress who have blocked efforts to switch from fossil fuels to renewable so...

Hear Ye, Hear Ye! E.B. White on How To Write

I remember teaching this to my English learners. I was teaching in another teacher’s room & she told me “I can’t believe they’re making you teach that.” The thing is NO ONE was making me teach it AND the students loved it!
So much for veteran teachers knowing what’s best! ❤

A Teacher's Reflections

I love writing.  This summer I read the best book on how to write, the advice of E.B. White, author of Charlotte’s Web and other classics. Oh, I have read a host of posts and articles on writing, many ...

There is a conversation in literature, film, and art in general surrounding what can be broadly termed “creator intent”. Essentially, why was this piece of art or music or film or writing produced? How was it intended to impact its audience?

For some novelists, maybe even ...

Milly – Part 1

There’s an amazing story here, but I’ll start with this & you can decide if you want to follow it through!
Peace, love & justice for all,
Sherrie

A Teacher's Reflections

Our “This Land is Your Land” quilt was the last quilt my class made.
Let’s start at the beginning.
How did quilting in my classroom even begin?
It was a divergent pathway.

Every good story has a great backstory.  To know how Milly came into my life and tell you about her early years in my classroom, I have to back up and tell y...

What Do You See in Your Mind’s Eye?

Love ❤ this! How good is your visualization memory?

Silvia Writes

landscape photography of shack near leafless tree

Sudden memories that pop up in our minds, triggering all sorts of feelings – how weird is that?

I was shopping at a home improvement store the other day, and while crossing the lumber section a memory triggered by the smell of lumber popped up, one tied to a distinct smell from childhood.

Took me to my grandparents’ house, where there was a shed filled with freshly cut wood.

I stood there like a dummy, in t...

Maya Angelou on refusing labels — Quotes for writers and everyone

Important statement at a time when we’re being told what we can & can’t write about.

BRIDGET WHELAN writer

Maya Angelou quote on identity I do not represent blacks or tall women, or women or Sonomans or Californians or Americans. Or rather I hope I do, because I am all those things. But that is not all that I am. I am all of that and more and less. People often put labels on people so they don’t have to deal with the physical fact of those people. It’s easy to say, oh, that’s a honkie, that’s a Jew, that’s a junkie, or that’s...

The advantage of being an older writer – Susan Hill QUOTES FOR WRITERS (and people who like quotes)

All my crazy life decisions has brought me to a place where I can write, plus I have plenty to draw on. I have many more books to write!

BRIDGET WHELAN writer

older womanGetting old has advantages as well as disadvantages. it may mean that you are freed from obligations – work, bringing up children, looking after older relatives – that left you little time or energy for writing. If so, that new freedom could stimulate your creativity.
Whether you write fiction or non-fiction, your writing will be informed ...
