Book Events
Hi All:
I'm working on setting up book talks and signings for this fall. I'm happy to announce I'll be in Hutchinson MN in October for their Teen Read Week to talk about my book The Telling Mirror
I absolutely love meeting my readers and discussing writing and books of all kinds--they're my people!
If you know of anyone who is looking for a willing author to come to your book club, bookstore, library or other bookish venue I'm your gal--either to talk about The Telling Mirror or my suspense book The Slaughterhouse Secrets or even both :)
Best regards,
M G Nelson

Fantastic Review
I enjoy getting feedback on my novels. Here's another great review of The Slaughterhouse Secrets:
"Wow. This was an unexpected pleasure!. Reading The Slaughterhouse Secrets was a surprise of fantastic writing, excellent character structure, massive detail (I can't imagine the research that went into this!) and intriguing plot.
This book flowed perfectly, I love how the author writes with such succinct accuracy, nailing emotion as we follow Jessica through her job at the meat packing plant, and body language as each character is introduced. The story of a Vet in a meat plant didn't sound all that intriguing at first, but after page one I couldn't put it down.
I related to Jessica and her frustration in having to deal with belligerent and uncooperative co-workers. Then I felt her fear and angst as she had to struggle with tough choices, knowing she was putting herself in danger by standing against 'the man'.
This was not just a great story (Erin Brockovich came to mind) but expertly written, I never once got bored or felt something went unanswered. Quite a tale! I will look at all my meat in a different light from here on out!"

Great Review of The Slaughterhouse Secrets
Hi all:
I had the good fortune be interviewed by Patrick Clinton, journalist at The New Food Economy magazine, and he just sent me his excellent review of The Slaughterhouse Secrets
This was a fun interview after he had read an advanced copy of the book. I hope you enjoy it as well.

Reviews
Hi all:
I have received a lot of fantastic reviews on my book The Telling Mirror and I decided to start posting them here for all to read although if you head on over to Amazon you can read them all yourself--don't forget to download the Kindle version; it's a bargain at .99 cents!
Great fantasy adventure

In the Telling Mirror, Nelson creates a different world for her readers. She does a good job of bringing the fantasy genre to YA. So often these days, YA has been dominated by supernatural romance or dystopian future. There are some great books in those genres, but it’s nice to see a really good fantasy that appeals to young adults.
Immediately on starting this book, I was drawn in by Sig’s character. She was very relatable, with a rough life and deep set of insecurities. Nelson did a fantastic job at getting me sucked in and on Sig’s side. When her journey in the new land begins, I was ready for there to me more to her life. I wanted there to be more for her than just the life on the farm that she hated so much.
Joining Sig and Reggie on their adventures was a journey for me as well. With Sig’s strange powers in the new land leading them along, they go through a series of adventures that serve their own purpose. Each one of them adds layers to Sig’s character.
When I picked up this book, I didn’t notice that it was the first in a series. When I finished it, I was very relieved to find out that there would be more. My only complaint about this book is that I didn’t want it to end. I wanted there to be more. I can’t wait for the next book to come out so the adventure can continue.

Summer Newsletter
Hi All:
Summer is officially here along with great summer reading! What are you reading this summer? I have some exciting things in the works with both The Telling Mirror series and with my mystery series, but this newsletter will focus on my YA writing.
First, I've entered both books into The World's Best Story contest and there's only 12 hours left to vote! Readers get a chance to win fabulous gift cards for each book they vote on (there's tons of them on the site) and author's get a chance to win some valuable publicity. A true win-win situation!
Here's the link to the site/The Telling Mirror. I'd sure appreciate a positive vote:
https://worldsbeststory.com/story/the...
I also wanted to write to give you a series update and the opportunity to participate in the production of second novel in The Telling Mirror Series called The Return to Poadocia.
I am using Wattpad, a forum for authors to place their "in the works" books in draft form for readers to give valuable feedback, and want to invite you to read and give me comments on the book: characters, plot line, story direction, etc. I am not seeking editing as I will work on that later with my editors. As a caveat this book is in a rough draft so no doubt there will be places where my editors will have to earn their pay :)
Anyways, here is the link. Please consider joining Wattpad and giving me feedback....its free, no strings attached and there are a ton of great stories on there by many, many other authors.
Here's the link. If you do join, please comment and vote!

Last, but certainly not least, is I'm working on fall book talks; I love to get out and meet my readers. I'll be at the Hutchinson MN public library Tuesday Oct, 10 at 7pm during their Teen Read work--really looking forwards to this event!
All my best,
M. G. Nelson

The Sea of Trolls
I found a great book this weekend and finally had some time to start reading it. The Sea of Trolls by Nancy Farmer.
Great first few chapters! Will be lost in it for the next couple of days.
