AND SO IT IS JUNE.

June 1st, 2018

Working, building and learning.

The past few weeks have been very eventful, so making extra time to write has been difficult, but now I can give you a recap of what I’ve been doing.

As you know from my previous blog post, and my latest video, Felix and I got a ‘holiday’ home. It was completely empty, so I’ve been spending lots of time searching, buying and assembling furniture.

That on its own has been very time consuming, but fun at the same time, of course. I love how with each day we spend there, you can see it becoming more and more of a home.

We still have plenty to do, but of course you will keep seeing photos or clips of the house as we decorate it.

This place will be fairly minimal and cosy – style wise – so don’t expect the extreme amount of detail I’ve put into designing our Brighton flat!

Something that is alllllmost ready, is my summer clothing line, which I’ve called ‘Linee’. Up here you can peek at some of the items: a striped, off the shoulder with puffy sleeves mini dress; a pair of cigarette, smart pants with a colour block section; and a double coloured hoodie with elbow print.

I originally wanted to keep my go-to black, white and pink colour palette, but I opted for navy instead as it’s a slightly newer twist.

I’m currently waiting for the final piece to be ready, so I can arrange a photoshoot and film my lookbook to show you everything. It shouldn’t be long at all, maybe a week or two, so get excited!

And since we are on this topic, Felix and I have been working on the summer line for Tsuki, as well as a fall/winter one. So expect new things coming out for Tsuki as well.

But my clothing projects aren’t the only things I’ve been working on. You guys know I have a studio in my Brighton flat, from where I work (by filming, editing, designing and so on) but the one I’m putting together for the holiday home will not only cover those same purposes, but also allow me to be more hands-on with some creative stuff.

I need to keep it vague for now, but I’m going to explain everything in my June notes, and I cannot wait to share this one specific thing with you guys, as I’ve been putting so much thought and work into it that I’m really hoping the response will be positive. It’s the first time that I take on a project like this all on my own, so figuring out all the details has been tricky, and it’s a bit scary, but totally exciting. I simply cannot wait to get it going and get your feedback on it!

I have SO many more things to figure out, which is why I don’t wanna give out any information on it – as I think it’s too early – but as I mentioned, I will make it a goal for my June notes to complete this project on camera, so you guys will be able to follow what I’m doing. Wish me luck!

(Even just writing this makes me feel nervous cause I think I’m getting ahead of myself, but I also have been feeling the urge to share how excited I am over something new. I know you guys at this point are probably extremely confused, so let me change topic).

How about we talk about plants?

I recently picked up this little book at Urban Outfitters, and I LOVE it.

I struggle so much with plants, as I love them but I find it hard to really know how to care for them properly, as whenever I buy them, the sellers make it seem so easy, while being so vague with the care instructions.

I’ve been buying many books about plants, but this – even though it’s the smallest one I have – is the most useful. It basically covers the most important aspects of keeping a plant healthy, and gives you some information about the most common indoor plants.

I never know where to place my plants (do I put them by a window? is the air too dry? do they prefer some shadow? why are the leaves getting crispy/floppy?), how frequently I need to water them, and how can I grow a new plant, from the ones I already have?

This books covers all of that, and it does it in a very clear and organised way.

So, if you – like me – love decorating your home with plants, but are always a bit unsure of how to really care well for them, grab this book! This is exactly what I had been looking for.

Anyway. Today is Dogy’s 1st birthday!!

To celebrate I built him a huge cage, so I’m gonna head over to my channel and post this video now. Take a look, if you’ve missed Dogy.

Have a lovely weekend,

Marzia

A NEW PLACE.

May 20th, 2018

Decorating our new, bare home.

Back in the late summer of 2017 Felix and I started looking for a ‘holiday’ home. I use the term holiday loosely because it’s more of a place we can go to at any moment, that will offer us a nice break from the city life in Brighton.

In November we found the place we were looking for: a simple, clean house, gated, with a small garden. We weren’t looking for anything over the top, but rather a home with enough space to allow guests to stay over, as well as being tucked away in a cosy and quiet area.

When we got back from Japan, all the paperwork was done, and on the very first day we came back, we drove all the way to get the keys to the place.

Although this home is newly built, there were some adjustments we wanted to make, and we are currently still working on it.

For example, the small garage that came with it was powerless, so we made sure to add electricity and lights in there so we can get more use out of it.

I also swapped the previous countertop, a dark grey stone, for light marble.

Everything is quite bare, at the moment.

The living room is almost empty, but I’m planning to get a larger, more stylish wood burner installed, and a big indoor plant.

Both Felix and I agree on the decor style we are going for: minimal, bright and clean, with industrial touches here and there.

There is quite a lot that needs to be done, at the moment, so I’m not sharing many photos of the place just yet, but I’ve been vlogging the process so expect a video about it next week.

As I mentioned, we do have a medium sized garden in the back, which I’m so incredibly excited about! But because getting the home took so many months, the grass and plants have grown wild, so I’m getting Maya’s help to redesign it. (∪ ● ω -)

All I know so far, is that we want to put some outdoor globe string lights to really light up the garden at night. BUT, we have no power sockets outside, so that’s something else I’m gonna have to fix. I would also love bamboo all around, but I will think some more about it.

I feel like this month I’ve been focusing so much on this that I haven’t found the time to write blog entries and film videos, but as you guys know I love interior design so getting to work on another home makes me so happy!

If you are wondering, we still live in our Brighton flat – but this place will provide us with some extra privacy, a chance to relax, and also have our families over (usually our parents have to stay at hotels since we don’t have space in our own flat), as well as have summer parties with friends, and cosy winter nights.

I will be sure to update you on the progress!

Happy Sunday.

SOME MORE GIFTS.

May 13th, 2018

An extremely quick giveaway!

When I got back from Japan, there were a few boxes waiting for me.

I can realistically only use and test a certain amount of products I’m sent, so there is no reason for me to keep doubles or different shades of each. Because of that, I gather some stuff over time, and once I have enough aside, I’m ready to share it with you.

Here is what this round of giveaway brought!

This is the WHITE box, and it includes 3 shades of concealer (‘rich’ from Tarte, 14 and 10 from EX1); a foundation in N0 from Cover FX; a total of 3 palettes (two from Tarte, one from Pretty Vulgar); an eyebrow pot; a mini Konjac sponge; two pairs of sunglasses and one of my limited edition t-shirts from summer 2017!

The BLACK box includs more accessories, like a pin, earrings, sunnies, a Forest Creatures pop socket and face jewels; but also has a big eyeshadow palette from Tarte, as well as the Pro Glow contour palette. And it also has a foundation from Cover FX in P20; a concealer from EX1 in number 6; and a lipstick from Pretty Vulgar.

YOU MAY HAVE HEARD…

May 3rd, 2018

I’m engaged!

At the end of our trip in Japan, Felix proposed!

It felt weird not writing about it here, on my blog, even though I’m pretty sure most of you – if not all – already know it.

I’m going to keep this very brief, as I’m planning to film a video with Felix to tell you how it all happened, but I wanted to take this chance to think back at this amazing month I spent in Tokyo.

I’ve always loved Japan, and the more I visited it, the more I grew interested in seeing how it would be to live in a place so far and so different from what I’m used to.

Felix and I talked about spending some time in Tokyo for years, and then on Christmas 2017, we booked the flights and airbnbs as a gift to ourselves.

The hardest thing for me was by far having to leave the pugs (Maya in particular, as she needs so much care and attention) for an entire month. Luckily I have the best friend – Daizo – that was available and willing to spend time alone here in Brighton, and look after them.

That allowed Felix and I to go, feeling comfortable and stress-free.

Every day was a little adventure, and although visiting new areas in Japan, like Okinawa, Karuizawa and Yokohama was really fun, what I realised more and more, with each day that passed, is how much I truly love Tokyo itself: it’s such a busy, lively city – not at all something I normally would want, and rather avoid – but because of how well organised, clean and efficient it is, it makes it that much more enjoyable.

It’s actually quite soothing, to me, for a few reasons:

when you are in the metro, squeezed in between strangers, and you then get out into the station to find absolute chaos, it seems almost impossible that by turning a corner you will find a quiet place. But you do. Whatever you are looking for, this city has it.
I have what Felix and I refer to as ‘sleep anxiety’. Not sure that’s a thing, or if anyone can relate, but I struggle to fall asleep and get really anxious about it. I need to know someone is awake, and when you live in a city that is basically bright as daytime even during the night, it’s clear that you are not the only person still awake in the middle of the night. Because of this, I’ve have had the best month of sleep I’ve had in a very long time.
You feel safe, no matter in which area you are – and that’s big, when it comes from me! I normally need lots of time to get used to a place, even more to leave the house by myself… but when I was there, going out on my own was completely fine almost immediately. Getting around is so easy, and people are so polite that if I needed help, I could simply ask around – yes, even with the language barrier.

As if my time there wasn’t already going so well, at the end of our trip – as I said – Felix proposed. It was a wonderful surprise, and of course made this trip even more special, and one I will never ever forget.

Thank you guys, once again, for all the sweet messages you have been sending our way!

(灬♥ω♥灬)

A QUICK FASHION FIX.

April 23rd, 2018

An Haulternative story.

It’s the beginning of Fashion Revolution week!

Like every year since it first launched, I wanted to join in and talk about this topic. Usually I make a video on Youtube covering multiple aspects, but because I’m travelling I don’t really have the opportunity to do a proper video, so instead I decided to share the story behind this yellow dress.

When I first started my Youtube channel, back in 2012, I remember coming across an Italian brand called Vivetta. At the time it was a new designer brand, started by Vivetta Ponti, with pretty limited pieces and only available online.

It took me just one browsing through the website to fall in love with the sweet designs it had to offer, and I quickly started dreaming of the day I could own one of Vivetta’s pieces.

Fast forward to spring 2013, after saving up some money, I became the owner of the adorable pale yellow dress shown above. It seems like such a simple thing, but being able to afford it and have it all to myself made me so happy!

It was my very first designer dress, and in these 5 years the brand grew a lot and still remains one of my favourites.

I loved it to the point that in my own book, Dream House, I made the protagonist wear it.

Through the years, I took good care of it, only wearing it for special occasions, but this year, during the renovation of the flat, it was ruined, unfortunately.

The fabric is very thin and delicate, and when I packed it I wasn’t careful enough, resulting in some tears and staining here and there.

So I grabbed some embroidery thread, in different colours, and created a random pattern with shapes and flowers on the back of the skirt (where all the ruined bits were).

This was such an easy fix, and made the dress even more unique: from the front, you can’t even tell anything is different, but then when you turn around or do a spin, it reveals some unexpected touches between the fabric folds.

I’m sharing this brief story because far too often we tend to easily get rid of pieces we once loved because of trends or tear, when in actuality we can give a new look to things we have owned for multiple years.

Embroideries, patches, colour dyes and such are all great solutions to spice up your clothes, so consider DIY-ing something before passing it along to someone else.

But if you think the clothes you own really don’t suit you anymore, you could always do a clothes swap with a friend. You can watch the one Maddie and I did last year, for Fashion Revolution week, if you are interested!

When it comes to fashion, my approach to it has changed massively in the past 5 years.

When I first started learning about fast fashion and the damage it causes, I felt so embarrassed and disappointed in myself for being so shopping-obsessed, pushing out many hauls a month, and simply overbuying because everything seemed so affordable; not really understanding yet that the someone else was paying the price for what I was doing.

Once I realised, I cut all ties with fast fashion, and I went even months at a time without buying anything at all. I would check all labels, and ask myself – do I need this?

99% of the time the answer was no.

I stopped buying most things because either I didn’t need them, or because they weren’t made ethically. But I did look at all the pretty things available and knew I couldn’t have them, which – on the long run – was a bit exhausting… especially when your job does include fashion.

Overtime I learnt to be more flexible, but still mindful – and I think that’s key.

It’s all about learning about topics we care about, and making choices based on them. For example, when creating clothes for my own labels – Marzia Clothing and Tsuki – it’s a must for me to be able to provide ethically made pieces, where the people working on each garment get properly paid for their work, and are fairly limited lines in order to limit fabric waste and remove mass production from the equation.

But at the same time, I don’t bash other people for their choices, and I allow myself, every once in a while, to pick up something just because I really want it, even if it’s not ethically made. When that happens, I’m extremely selective and consider when I’m going to wear it, how much use I will get from it, how it’s the quality and how long it will last. So I still ask myself questions, and don’t just purchase something because I can have it.

Hopefully this all makes sense; the bottom line is that, with everything in life, there needs to be a balance that makes you happy.

If you are interested in having an ethical approach to fashion, there are many different ways to go about it:

let’s say you love cheap and trendy clothes, from brands like Zara and H&M, but you are tired to support big corporations. You could then consider second hand! That way, you could find the piece that caught your attention from a thrift shop, or exchange something for it with a friend, so that you don’t directly give money to these fast fashion giants;
you may be having events coming up, and ethically produced garments are known to cost much more than your go-to brands, so how about hiring an outfit? That way you can have a killer look for the night, without splurging on a purchase.
But on the other hand, for example, I have a thing for designer handbags. Most of the time I go for vintage finds, but if one steals my heart, I definitely see that as an investment purchase, as I will keep them for years and years, maybe even passing them along to future generations, giving a story to those items of clothing. Plus, these are the types of purchases that you don’t make on a regular basis, but rather save up for.

These are just some ideas, but there are so many more options!

Also, because more and more people talk about the issues that fast fashion is causing, and the growing demand for ethically produced clothing, more and more designers and brands are going down that path. Even massive companies are making adjustments, which is great to see.

Personally, my favourite way to shop is by supporting smaller labels, but the more you look around what’s available on the market, the easier it will become to shop ethically and find brands you want to support, or ways to buy the garments you like.

If you are interested in this topic, definitely take a look at the Fashion Revolution website, and I also always recommend a documentary called The True Cost.

If you have some brands to suggest me, please do so! I’m always happy to check out some cool shops!

ENOSHIMA.

April 22nd, 2018

A sunny day in a little island.

The past few days in Tokyo have been feeling like summer, with clear skies and high temperatures.

That resulted in the perfect time to explore Enoshima island, near Kamakura – just about 1 hour and a half train ride from Shibuya.

Felix and I met up with Emma, Arik and Joey at 10am by the Hachiko statue. We hopped on the train and once we arrived, we were greeted by this building wishing us a nice day.

Then there is a long bridge you can walk on to make you way to the island.

My friends had all been there before, so I did my research to make sure I knew something about the island as well.

What I’ve gathered is that there is a legend around it: the goddess of love, Benzaiten, created it after battling a sea dragon. In doing so, two theories formed:

She managed to imprison the creature deep into the caves of this island (you can actually visit Iwaya Caves);
She agreed to marry the dragon in order to tame him.

When I asked about this to my friends – after seeing some dragon statues and caves – they didn’t have a clue what I was talking about!

Regardless, I thought it was pretty cool how this place had its own legend.

Lots of people come here because of the views of Mount Fuji: we didn’t get a clear sight, but even like this it looked so striking.

The island was already very packed yesterday, but in summer time it’s said to be extremely busy, especially its beaches (Shonan beach in particular). We could already see a lot of windsurfers, and I can see why: it’s really windy.

You can walk down a path that brings you to some rocks you can climb and walk around on, during low tide.

Because of the sun heating up the rocks, we were able to walk on them pretty easily…

even though some bits were more dangerous than others!

If you get too close to the edges, chances are you would get splashed by water.

After spending the morning hiking, we went back into the main area and stopped by for some food.

It was such a warm day that in order to feel cool again, I ate some shaved ice (or as I like to call it, some ‘snow’).

Then we made our way to the Shrine: there are 3 of them, all dedicated to the Benzaiten goddess.

Here my friends thought me lots of new things: for example, these up here are bad fortunes.

You pick a fortune from a basket, in exchange for 100 yen, and if you get a bad one you tie it on these strings, as they will be burned later.

I was curious to see what I would get, as finally I had someone that could translate my fortune for me, and it turns out I got ‘Big Luck’ – which apparently it’s really rare to get, as none of my friends ever got one!

This made me really happy, so I folded it back and I’m keeping it in my wallet.

Another thing I was thought is how to wash your money for more money: there is this specific pond (not sure what the name is) where you can grab a basket, put in some money to dip into water, and then you throw it into a wooden box in the middle of the pond. If you make it, it will bring you more money.

It took me 5 tries but I was able to do it!

As I said, this island has the theme of love, so in multiple spots you can do couple related things: one of which is ringing the love bell, in this stunning setting.

They even provide a stand where to put your camera to take your photo – they really think of everything!

As you could probably see from the previous photo, you will find tons of lockets and pink ema attached to the railing surrounding this area.

No matter where you are walking in the island, if you look up, you should be able to spot this tall building, called the Sea Candle.

We didn’t go up, but I figured I would at least show a photo of it.

We walked over 20’000 steps, but the brief stops to grab some local sweets provided us with just the right amount of energy back, and the wind blowing in such a hot day made the heat bare-able.

I honestly had an amazing time exploring this place, I would highly recommend it!

KAWASAKI WAREHOUSE.

April 13th, 2018

The coolest yet creepiest arcade.

A couple of days ago Felix and I had plans to meet with Emma (Tokidoki Traveller) and Joey (The Anime Man).

This incredibly unique arcade was suggested, and so we went on a 45 minute train ride and quickly made our way to Kawasaki after lunch.

You can surely spot the building.

It was less than 10 minutes walk from the station.

There are two entrances: this one, from the road, which sprays loud air as you enter (this made Felix jump!).

And this one, from the parking lot, which is where everybody wants their picture taken.

Every aspect of the inside is made to recreate a now demolished city in Hong Kong.

Kowloon Walled City – the place this arcade chose as its backdrop – was originally a Chinese military fort where prostitution, gamblings and drugs took over.

So when you walk here, you really feel like you are wandering around an abandoned area, with it’s small streets and restaurants, looking into someone’s apartment.

The only thing to break from how realistic this place is, are the gaming stations and grabbing machines.

And I quite like that contrast, it’s basically what I love: creepy, abandoned places, combined with cutesy and fun things to do.

This place is actually quite big, with multiple floors (as you can guess from the outside of the building) and to my surprise, it was completely free to enter!

So if you want to just explore, you can totally do that. But of course, playing at the arcade adds to the fun.

I was able to win this little guy. His name is Ki (tree in Japanese), as Felix was throwing him around on the street and got stuck on a tree – thankfully Emma had a water bottle and we managed to save him!

If you are ever in Tokyo, and you are into this sort of stuff, I highly recommend stopping by, as you can just spend an afternoon in there and then easily make your way back to Tokyo on the same day.

That’s it from reporter Marzia on the Kawasaki Warehouse!

Have a spooky day, everyone.

3CE.

April 7th, 2018

A mini haul.

If you are familiar with Stylenanda – the South Korean clothing brand – you will know that not only they provide some super cool fashion, but also some stunning makeup, that goes by the name of ‘3 Concept Eyes’.

Now that I’m in Japan, I knew I was going to do lots of shopping, but didn’t expect to stumble upon a Stylenanda pink hotel, so when I did, I rushed in and grabbed a few products!

The shop is in the incredibly busy Takeshita street of Harajuku.

The Japanese hotel doesn’t quite compare to the main South Korean one (I’ve seen videos and photos and it looks incredible) but didn’t disappoint.

The only thing I wish they had more of was clothing: I have always wanted to order from them, and other than having some pieces available on Asos, I never dared ordering online, so I was really hoping to check out some clothes in person, but the selection was quite small.

What I did end up buying are these products instead, from 3CE.

South Korean skincare has been on the rising for a few years know, and you can see many brands worldwide are inspired by their products and mimic their formulas; I used to be really into it as well, and when I saw these two up here I simply couldn’t resist…

the only problem is that I have no clue how to use them, but I can always figure that out with some research!

This ‘pack to foam’ has a very hard consistency (you really need to squeeze that tube), almost clay-like, and apparently you need to use a thick layer all over the skin, wait 5 minutes till it dries, and then wash it off – which causes it to foam up.

Do I know what the end result should be? No.

The benefits? No.

But I’m curious to give it a go.

The other product is a toner, which makes it easier to know what to expect from it and how to apply it. I’ve noticed that it has a slightly denser consistency than a water toner, but melts completely into the skin.

This milk line is supposed to be made with the idea of providing extra moisture, so if you have dry skin, this may be perfect for you.

The makeup product that I was the most excited about – and the reason why I started picking stuff up in the shop – is this pigment tube.

Remember that a few months ago I talked about a Tarte eyeshadow that looked very similar to this? I featured it in a favourites video as well, saying how I would want them to make a pot or tube of it, so I could buy it individually, and not the whole palette.

Well, this is exactly it. This is all I wanted, and more: in fact, this pigment comes in many different shades – I selected the clear one cause I wanted an exact match for the Tarte one, but I’m extremely tempted to get more. It’s just so beautiful!

One thing that I was not so happy about is this foundation – but it is completely my fault: it’s the last thing I’ve picked up, whilst rushing, and didn’t even swatch it, thinking it was a BB cream (Korean BB creams are usually quite sheer and moisturising).

Turns out this foundation actually has some real good coverage, and a powdery finish too – all things that sound good, but were simply not what I was looking for. My bad!

I also have to say it smells like baby powder, which I love, but on the other hand, even the colour match isn’t ideal, as it’s a bit darker than my skin tone. Maybe I will be able to use this when I’m more tan, during summer time. Will see!

Since we are on the topic, this is what I was looking to replace: I’ve been using this Korean BB cream for a while now, and I absolutely love it. It has become my go-to, as it’s so natural. It’s hard to explain, it’s just the best.

I’ve ordered a new tube, but it’s in Brighton, and I’m running out of the one I brought with me; any idea if I could find this brand in Tokyo?

Anyway, back to 3CE: I got a shimmery eyeshadow duo, and a peachy/orang-y blush. The packaging is too cute!

Here are the swatches. The blush appears more pink than expected, but I really like all 3 colours.

Oh, and the final item is this mirror: I’ve been wanting to get a handheld mirror since coming here, because I do my makeup in front of a window with no mirrors nearby, so this will be handy and useful to have around.

But that’s it! This makeup brand isn’t the cheapest, but it surely has some really beautiful stuff and some equally great products.

Have you ever used anything from it?

PS. I’m having an amazing time in Japan, so there may be a lack of blog entries compared to normal. If you miss me, you can always check out my IG for photos!

LA FRUTTA.

March 28th, 2018

My new eyeshadow palette.

I’m very excited to announce that my newest palette, in collaboration with Winky Lux, is now available!

Let me show it to you!

Last year I had my Natura palette, which you all seemed to like, and so this year I selected a new theme – fruit – and created La Frutta.

It has the same type of packaging, but 5 all-new eyeshadows – of course!

Since it’s now Spring time, I wanted to select some fun, yet wearable colours, that would all go well paired with each other.

You can either pick just two colours and create many different looks, or use all of them together for something like this:

You can get that sunset effect, by creating a gradient, but as I said, even just selecting two colours you can achieve some really striking combinations.

The 5 eyeshadows are:

Pesca (peach), a pale pink colour with a golden shimmer;

Anguria (watermelon), a matte and warm pink;

Limone (lemon), a bright yellow with a bit of a sheen;

Mango (mango), a stunning metallic ochre shade;

Uva (grape), a matte, rich wine colour.

But as you may have noticed, there are some other goodies on these photos: lipsticks!

If you bought my subscription box, you will be receiving one of two lipsticks I made as a special edition for the box only.

These two colours follow the naming of my fruit palette, being called ‘Fragola‘ (strawberry) and ‘Dattero‘ (date).

They are both very wearable, and when creating them I knew I wanted them to be the colours I reach for on an everyday basis.

Dattero is a bit more on the nude, with a touch of brown;

Whilst Fragola is a nude-ish pink.

So this is all for my latest Winky Lux collab – I really hope you like it! I would love to see the different makeup looks you come up with, if you do grab a palette.

March 21, 2018

HELLO, GENEVA.

March 21st, 2018

A weekend trip.

The past weekend my friend Giorgia and I met up in Geneva, Switzerland, and visited a city we both had never been to before.

So of course, I brought my compact camera, filmed a few clips, and took some photos.

When we were thinking of destinations for our quick trip, we felt that finding a place that is almost equally as far for both would have been idea, especially cause we both would have had to travel on our own.

Geneva is just about 1 hour and 15 minutes away from both London and Venice, so that made it the perfect location: we got on the early Friday flights, arriving to the hotel in the morning, which gave us plenty of time to look around.

The weather was holding up – even though we knew it was going to rain for most of the trip – so we opted for a river walk right away,  to see the conjunction between the two rivers, the Rhône and the Arve.

The water from the Rhône appears much bluer and clearer, compared to the Arve, creating a beautiful contrast of colours as they meet.

I saw some stunning photos of this online, but because of the weather – not being as sunny as it could be – and our viewing point – I wasn’t able to get such a crisp image of it.

Right after we ventured towards the Old Town, full of cute and historic buildings.

I believe one of the main things in this area is the Cathedral of Saint Pierre.

It was free to visit and looked quite grand yet very minimal and muted at the same time.

Which was interesting as the chapel on the side was so rich in colours and patterns.

We kept on walking, admiring the buildings, checking out some shops, and reaching the lake.

We even managed to see the jet d’eau from afar.

On the second day we checked out the Botanical Gardens.

I don’t think I had ever been to one before, and when I saw Geneva had a few greenhouses, I knew I had to go see them.

It was a rainy day and nobody was around, so we weren’t sure it was even open.

We were very surprised when we tried opening a door, to realise all the greenhouses were accessible.

They were temperate, which gave us a chance to warm up and stay out of the rain.

The smaller one, out of the 3 greenhouses available, was my personal favourite: not just because of this cactus garden, but because you could go up and admire the beautiful plants from up high.

This place was magical.

The gardens didn’t just have greenhouses, but also animals, a villa, and a library. It was overall a lovely area to walk around.

We then wanted to briefly check out the Broken Chair, right in front of the United Nations building.

It was a Saturday, and it seems as if that’s the closing day for restaurants over there, so we struggled finding a place to eat. We eventually did, even if it was incredibly packed and stressful.

Luckily towards the evening there were less people around, and the rain stopped.

I really wanted to see Place Du Molard after sundown as I knew some of the cobblestones would lit up and show a message, written in different languages.

This was such a cute spot!

On Sunday we had some time to kill, as our flights were in the evening.

Again, the weather wasn’t the best so we decided to visit a couple museums – the one I was looking forward to the most of the MAMCO.

I find modern art museums very interesting, so I was curious to see what Geneva had to offer.

Some areas had a slightly creepy vibe – which I quite enjoyed (I actually kept sounds from the museum on my video so that you could get a sense of what it was like walking through it). I was having a great time till I decided to take this photo and truly angered a guard of the museum. She was not happy with me being that close to the installation and got told off – oops.

After lunch, we grabbed a bus in Place De Neuve, which had this stunning parc called Parc des Bastions.

We went to see the Museum of Natural History, which was free to enter, as our final stop.

And then it was time to go back to the airport.

Even though the city appeared grey and quiet during winter time, I can see it being stunning when it warms up and flowers bloom. The highlight of my trip was being able to catch up with Giorgia, and feel like our friendship is just as strong as it was when we were kids.
