Pioneer Press: State: VA Hastings home retaliated against staff, not residents

A Minnesota investigation of the Hastings Veterans Home found that one administrator retaliated against staff members, but it dismissed allegations staff struck back against residents.

Investigators set out to explore claims the home's former director of nursing, Connie Ball, retaliated against residents who complained about care. The inquiry, released Wednesday, didn't find solid evidence to back those claims.

Huffington Post: The Hardest Vote I've Taken

A lot of people are unhappy that the president punted on first down, and I'm one of them. Extending the excessive Bush tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires will explode our deficit over the next two years without doing anything to help our economy. I think it's simply bad policy.

But for Minnesota's middle class, struggling to get by in a tough economy, there's a lot in this bill that will really help: tax cuts for working families, a payroll tax holiday, energy tax credits, and the extension of Recovery Act initiatives that are already making a difference.

KSFY: AP Interview: Franken urges revamp of net rules

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) – Sen. Al Franken says proposed Internet traffic rules due for a vote later this month could harm the free flow of information.

Franken spoke about the Federal Communications Commission's draft net neutrality policy on Friday in an interview with The Associated Press. He also sent a letter to the FCC asking for changes.

Star Tribune: Franken urges "major revisions" on FCC's Net neutrality proposal

Sen. Al Franken urged Federal Communications Commission Chairman Julius Genachowski to heavily revise proposed rules for Internet service providers in a letter sent to the chairman Friday.

The FCC is planning to vote on a Net neutrality proposal on Dec. 21 that would bar broadband Internet providers from discriminating against lawful Internet traffic, but potentially allow them to create priority service for websites — at a higher price — that wish to give their customers faster speeds for things like streaming video.

National Journal: Franken to FCC: Fix Net Neutrality Plan or Nix It

Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn., pulled no punches in a Friday missive to FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski, warning that the regulator's controversial network neutrality proposal "may do more harm than doing nothing at all." Genachowski's plan for preserving the Internet's openness features several concessions to telecom and cable giants — loopholes the senator wants eliminated. But if Genachowski strengthens his initiative in advance of a scheduled Dec. 21 vote, he could lose critical support from industry players, fueling further opposition among Republicans and conservative Democrats on Capitol Hill.

The Hill: Franken: FCC should bury net-neutrality proposal unless it is strengthened

Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) is urging the Federal Communications Commission to abandon its latest net-neutrality plan unless it is significantly strengthened.

In a letter to FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski on Friday, Franken became the first Democrat to argue that having no rules would be preferable to the ones the agency proposed last week.

KIMT: Mixed Reactions to Tax Cuts Deal

Reactions to the tentative tax deal range from this: "I'm not happy with…extending the tax cuts on millionaires and billionaires, I just don't think we need that," said Sen. Al Franken, DFL-Minn.

….To this: "It's a good win for the American economy and it's also a good win for the voters of the last election who were telling us that they're very concerned about the economy and creating jobs," said Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa.
