The Weekly Rune – Wunjo

Wunjo - joy – We haven’t been visited by Wunjo since August of 2013, which makes it a special occasion. Truly, though, anytime Wunjo appears it’s special. It’s the Rune everyone wants to appear in their readings.

We usually think of joy as a feeling, happiness. On a deeper level, though, joy is more active than that. It’s a state of being, in which we’re engaged in the magick that manifests desires, which is exactly what this stave indicates is available to us with the support of the Multiverse, at this time.  In other words, we’re not just feeling joy, we really are it. We’re an active part of its magick.

We’re in the midst of Mercury retrograde, and coming out of a powerful and rare selenelion. Whatever bumps and scrapes we’ve gained, the memo here is to listen to them. Hear their stories–don’t just feel them and emote from the place of the hurt. Realize the revealed hurts are their own life force with a story, healing, and a blessing. The blessing is the emphasis, here–or it can be if we allow it. This is the magick Wunjo brings.

The Weekly Rune – Uruz

Uruz – Auroch – A year ago this month is the last time Uruz appeared as The Weekly Rune. As I am fond of saying, anytime the wild things show up, it’s about to go big. Uruz is the second Rune in the First Aett (though some argue that it’s the first–do discuss!). The point of mentioning its position in the futhark is we’re dealing with giants, and in Old Icelandic cosmology, they are the real movers and shakers. So when I say big, I mean gigantic.

Patreon-PledgeFrom that cosmology, the giants created everything. That’s a very vague statement, considering the colorful path from Void to Being. Specifically from the standpoint of Uruz, the focus is Audhumla, or the feminine principal embodied as a sacred cow. Across pantheons, we’re visited with the symbolism of the sacred cow mother who feeds the world, a scenario that also echoes through the Norse creation story  Considering Audhumla as Uruz, not only did she  play a role in creating those we know as “the gods,” she was also involved in the creation of humanity, and possibly other races in the Norse pantheon.

In a nutshell, this week, given the catharsis of Mercury retrograde and the primal creative energy of Uruz, expect deep revelation of personal wisdom and guidance. Audhumla truly is the star stuff of creative life force, and the action to bring it into being.

The Weekly Rune – Raidho Reversed

Raidho – travel - For the last month we’ve bounced between Eihwaz and variations on Raidho, only to find ourselves back at Raidho reversed this week.   This stave is appropriate as we passed through the second harvest sabbat, Mabon, now to truly explore what falls on either side of it, and how we want to go forward in closing this year. The message of Raidho reversed has been one of culling impeccable clarity in how we interact with others, and this week we’re asked to explore relationships. Note the photo shows Raidho brightstave.

Patreon-Pledge As always, thank you for your support of The Weekly Rune. I enjoy writing it, and I’m deeply pleased that so many enjoy reading it. Alas, I’m no longer in a position that I can keep doing it for free. It takes time, energy, and resources to write and maintain, along with my other writing and professional commitments. In Gebo’s spirit of gift for a gift, I’ve created options for supporting The Weekly Rune, in its complete and detailed wisdom at Patreon, along with other rewards for as little as $5 a month.

Blessings, and dream well!

The Weekly Rune – Eihwaz

Eihwaz – Yew – Do you see the pattern we’re in? Three weeks ago, Eihwaz visited, followed by Raidho, then Raidho reversed. We’ve been on a journey through our shadowlands, and this week we’re nudged to draw a conclusion about it.

Eihwaz is a Rune of death, a fact of life which can’t be avoided, as this stave cannot be reversed.

To recap, the 13th and middle Rune in the Futhark, this stave represents the turning point. It is the point at which self meets self, and authenticity is revealed. As it is symbolized by the yew, which is both sweet and poisonous, so its teaching will either make or break us–likely both. What is significant about this stave is its emphasis on self. While the evergreen yew can be sweetly enticing, its seed is deadly, which made it a perfect toxin tipping arrow points in battle.

At this time, what is most imperative to understand about Eihwaz is its connection to the Yggdrassil, the World Tree, which Odin scaled and hung from, to learn the mysteries of the Universe–the Runes. When we read about Odin’s ordeal, it’s always in a neat, tidy sentence: “Odin hung from the World Tree for Nine Days and learned the Runes.” But what does this really say about what he went through, and what he did? What does it convey about his experience? Maybe it was horrific. Maybe it was fantastic. Likely, it was both.

How would you feel if you hung from a tree for nine days? What tree are you hanging from now?

Patreon-PledgeOrdeal has its place. In western culture we don’t talk much about sacrifice for self truth, but when have you ever made a huge stride without ordeal? It’s not about there always being a down side, or struggling to find the silver lining. They are in separable. Knowing this is what liberates us from being overwhelmed by either. It’s also what helps us to keep moving, and see initiation through to the finish.

Do you have to hang from a tree for that insight to occur and instill meaning? Must you suffer? The thought of suffering for awareness makes most of us cringe, yet many of us are in the throes of an ordeal without giving it the credit of being what it is.

Realize it, and move on.

This week the job ahead is to complete the journey, derive meaning from it, and carry that meaning into changed living. We cannot see our true selves and remain the same.

We can’t stay in the tree. The whole point of the journey isn’t the glory of experiencing the tree, but bringing the experience back home.

I’ve had several people ask about the Patreon image in my recent posts. I love the Runes, and I really enjoy writing The Weekly Rune. I’m thrilled that so many readers have found a personal connection with it, and anticipate the oracle every week.

Generally speaking, I really enjoy writing my blog, and the freedom it brings me to cover a range of animistic and shamanistic topics. I started it in 2004, and it’s become a great community all its own. Ten years really is huge in the life of a blog, and I thank you for staying tuned.

To support my web presence, I created rewards at Patreon that allow readers to pledge whatever amount they like. When you pledge, you gain options to take your connection with the Runes deeper, to get The Weekly Rune before its public released, to read other insights on the Runes, to get a Birth Rune Snapshot, , to get regular Rune Readings, to receive one of my books every month. There are many ways to show support, and there are many rewards for doing so.

Thanks so much for your appreciation of The Weekly Rune, and thanks for helping me have the means to keep writing it.

Dream well
