Snuggle Bunnies

It touches me how much these snuggle-bunnies love each other. Blueberry is on the left, Muffin is on the right.
I'm off to Ohio in the morning for a school visit with the students and staff at Bailey Elementary School in Dublin, OH! I'm so excited to be there! But first, I'll have to give my husband a quick lesson in bunny care. :-)

We have Bunnies!

We've adopted two bunnies from the animal shelter. Their names are Blueberry (left) and Muffin (right).

So now we have a dog, a guinea pig, and two rabbits. :-)

Still in Maine!

Well, Mother Nature prevented me from going to South Carolina. My first flight was delayed so long that I would've missed my second flight by an hour. Since there was no other way to get there, I couldn't go. I made a video they could show at the luncheon. It certainly wasn't the same as being there, but I wanted to say thank you, all the same.
Making the video was easier said than done, though. Because my house has Milo.
I tried putting Milo in a bedroom but he cried and whined, which could be heard in the background of the video.
I put him on the couch with me, but out of sight. He licked and licked and you could hear it on the tape.
So finally, I said to my husband, "They'll hear that and wonder what it is, so I may as well hold him."

So there I am, talking about how much the award means to me and Derek Anderson and how important librarians and teachers were to me as a child, and there's Milo licking my fingers.
Yawning.

Giving the camera a Paddington-worthy hard stare.

Licking himself in doggy ways.

And just being Milo.

I can only hope they're all dog lovers in South Carolina.

South Carolina!

I've printed my boarding passes for my flights to the South Carolina Association of School Librarians conference tomorrow. Here's hoping winter storm Saturn doesn't delay my initial 5:45 am flight, because I only have a 40 minute connection in Washington. But with air travel, you always have to simply show up on time and hope for the best! So that's my whole plan:
Show up on time.
Hope for the best!
I'm only there for the day to accept the South Carolina Picture Book Award on behalf of Derek Anderson and myself. I'm bringing 300 Hot Rod Hamster posters so everyone at the awards luncheon can take one home for their school/library as a thank you. Three hundred posters and really heavy! But I only have to carry them down. Coming home will be much lighter.

Thank you, Shutesbury Elementary School!

Shutesbury, Massachusetts
I had a wonderful school visit yesterday with the staff and students at Shutesbury Elementary School. I spoke to Grades 1 and 2 about Hot Rod Hamster and Grades 4-6 about my novels.
One of the sweetest moments for me was when a first grader raised his hand and told me that a copy of Hot Rod Hamster had been in his kindergarten class. "It was the first book I ever read all by myself," he said.
I was so touched by that.
Thank you to Mary Anne Antonellis, Director of the MN Spear Library; Heather Lobenstine, Media Specialist at Shutesbury Elementary; and to all the kids for a great day!

Whooo Dat?

At Christmastime, my daughter made these owls and hid them around our house. I love them so much that I just can't put them away! So they're decked out for March.

Another Weekend, Another Snowstorm!

What a February we've had in Maine this year! Snow upon snow upon snow. On Sunday, we had another snowstorm, and this one brought us 11 inches. We have yet another on the way, too.

Yesterday morning, it was beautiful. This is my writing shed. My family jokingly refers to it as "Walden Backyard."

My neighbor's bird house wore quite a hat of snow.

Milo has had enough of this white stuff, though! He says, "It's hard to be short in winter!"

Such a good idea!

This fourth-grade book group in Beverly, MA read Touch Blue and then invited a local mom who does foster care to come in and answer questions for them.

"The students prepared questions for Robin Hough, a Beverly foster mom, pictured here with one of her foster children, a year old boy."
