Acadia

I drove to Bar Harbor, Maine yesterday for a school visit today in Prospect Harbor. What a beautiful part of Maine!

This is the view off my hotel balcony. I'm drinking my morning coffee watching the seagulls fly over and drop mussel shells on the beach, just like in Touch Blue. The gulls are hoping the shells with break on the rocks and they can swoop in and eat the mussel inside.

Last night, there was an amazing sunset, too.

Heading Downeast

BBF_1.jpg picture by cynthialord2005

I'm heading downeast for a school visit on Tuesday coordinated by the Dorcas Library in Prospect Harbor, Maine. This is my second time doing an event with Dorcas, and it is one of the most charming libraries in Maine.

I took these photos the last time I did an event here. It was raining that first time, but Tuesday looks to be beautiful. That area is the Maine coast at its wildest best and when I'm done, I think I'll drive the Schoodic Peninsula before heading home.

"Okay, Dog. Here's the plan. I'll distract her, and you grab the sandwich. The chicken is yours, the lettuce is mine."

Between the Lakes

Today I'm off to a school visit in Oakland, Maine, a town of about 6,000 people near Waterville and on the edge of the Belgrade Lakes. After my school day, I'm going to meander my way back home along the lakes. That area is so beautiful.

Cookie meets the Bunnies

counter create hit

Yesterday I was changing the bunny and guinea pig cages, and I decided to introduce Cookie to the bunnies and see what happened. Cookie gets a treat in a plastic bin while I change his cage and the bunnies were in their play yard hopping around.

I set Cookie's bin in their area so I could separate them quickly if anyone seemed afraid or aggressive.

But they were quite curious about each other.

So far, so good!

Cruisin' in Little Rock!

counter create hit

After the conference in Arkansas, one of the teachers asked me if I wanted to rest or go out on the town in Little Rock. I've never been to Arkansas, so even though I had spoken for close to 5 hours that day, I said, "I'd love to go out!"

Cathy pulled up to my hotel in a convertible. I don't even remember the last time I rode in a convertible with the top down. . . so picture us cruising through Little Rock, AR together. :) She showed me the Clinton Library, Central High School, the state capital building, Heifer International's headquarters, and then she asked me if I wanted an authentic Arkansas culinary experience. I said, "OF COURSE!" So for supper, I tried catfish, a fried pie, and Cathy's husband gave me one of his crawfish to try.

Everyone in Arkansas could not have been nicer to me. At my first session on Friday night, I spoke about Rules and when I mentioned my daughter, I said, "She's studying to be a librarian and she lives in Boston. So this has been a long day for me." I can't even count how many of those teachers and librarians gave me updates from their Smartphones on the latest news or put their arms around me as I signed books that night. There are so many good people in this world--and a big bunch of them live in Arkansas.

Hello from Arkansas!

counter create hit

Hello from Arkansas! I'm here as the final speaker in the Young Adult Authors series at Harding University. All around the Quad at Harding are these wonderful swings. I bought myself a chai to pep me up for my supper talk tonight (and I have 3 sessions tomorrow).

I sat in this swing and listened to the birds, drank in the colors of the flowers, sipped my chai, and swung.

Heading to Arkansas!

counter create hit

I'm heading to Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas tomorrow to speak at a conference for teachers and librarians. I've never been to Arkansas and I always like to know something about where I'm visiting. So I was looking at photos and reading about Searcy this morning. How beautiful is the art museum?
