Yesterday and Tomorrow

Yesterday I participated in an author event at the New England Reading Association conference in Nashua, New Hampshire. When the directions came for the event, I smiled to see it was at the Crowne Plaza hotel. For many years, the New England Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators held their annual conference in that hotel.

Woof!

Here's something just for fun! I'm in the middle of prepping for a lot of speaking, and this made me smile.

Fun in Farmington!

Yesterday, I had a lovely booksigning at one of my favorite stores: DDG Booksellers in Farmington, Maine.
It was a gorgeous day and I had a full crowd of teachers, college students, librarians, and writers. My daughter also came and brought some of her friends! You know when the bookseller has to go get more chairs, it's a good thing.
Thank you to everyone who came! I talked about Touch Blue and gave a reading. But I also brought some things with me to show during my talk, including...

Five Things on a Friday

1. My husband has a photo on the cover of this publication that's available in Southern Maine.
2. Touch Blue was one of three books mentioned in this article in the Scripps Howard News Service , and it's on Unshelved today!
3. I have to go on mushroom patrol in my yard. Every fall Milo eats a mushroom and then gets very sick, so I'm trying to avoid that. Mushrooms are sneaky, though. And Milo has a short memory.
4. My critique group met this week, and I brought Toni and Terry (my...

In the land of lizards

My son has been interested in lizards lately, so I was excited to see this video of David Wiesner's new book, Art and Max.
My son is 18, but one of the nice things about his autism is that he is never afraid to like what he likes. He would not be embarrassed to love this book.
But he's also not afraid to love action movies. He's undefinable: only himself.
People always ask, "How's he doing?" And I have to admit that I hate that question, because I don't know how to answer it. If it's...

It's taken some bravery to send another book out into the world in Rules' wake. For the past three years, I've joked with people whenever they've asked the question, "Where do you go from here?!" by answering "DOWN!" Not as a put-down for myself, but as a shot of reality that it will happen and it will be okay.
I've felt with both Rules and Touch Blue that they were the best books I could write at that point. And that's what ...

On the Lake

Yesterday, I picked up my daughter, and we spent a delightful afternoon at a lake in Maine with these two:

What a treat! Mountains, loons, the lapping of lake waves, and laughing with good friends.
Maybe we'll end up one of Kevin's Vacation Diaries!
