supercalifragilisticexpialidocious (sp?)
The dentist office phoned to make sure we'd be there at the right time on Friday. I assured them we would. Then they phoned back - an 'oopsie' at the hospital. Thing 2 is scheduled for next Friday. Again. Perhaps it is for the best. Although having to phone a friend and admit my next available Friday for a play date was the 18th of November. Highly embarrassing. Made me sound like some snobbish socialite. The more accurate description, of course, is frazzled writer, mother, wife. Given my friend's good nature, she laughed. Nobody likes to be ill. But sometimes...

No guests, just us and insanity
I see my last post was confusing. It is confusing. How to explain? It would take ages. It kind of goes like this: Thursday Thing 2 came down with The Fever. This virus that burns through a victim, soaking clothing, bedding and so on. (Creating lots, and lots of laundry.) Goes in a cycles of cold, hot, fine, repeat for 48 to 72 hours. Friday Thing 1 had to go into theatre to sort out his dental woes. (Not fun. But he was an adorable trouper about the entire ordeal.) Saturday it looked like we were fine. (Thing 2 just...

Its like having a sick ward in your office
There are currently five other people in my home right now. All for various reasons. None of which is actually helping me work. That's all I have to say, really. Well, and the little plan of my hosting a Halloween-esq event on Friday? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! It appears to be an April's Fools joke about six months late (or early, depending on your point of view).

Nineveh by Henrietta Rose - Innes
I've been bit in the butt by the virus 'Fan-itis' when it comes to Henrietta Rose-Innes. How badly? Well, remember that launch I had to attend in Cape Town just after I returned from the United States? Yes, well, I walked into the event and promptly sat down directly behind Henrietta and stared. Didn't say a word. Did not say hello. Just felt ridiculous silly pleasure that I was sitting behind her. Not sure when I would have moved if my friend hadn't reminded me the reason we were there and hauled me downstairs. It is this Fan-itis that admittedly...

I feel so rested!
This weekend we gave the Things away. It was their first official sleepover, rather than spending a night with relatives. Not that the Things are not welcome at their various relatives, simply that we live a wee bit for a casual, 'Come on over.' They had a lovely time. So did we. It occurred to me that since Thing 1 was born, I have never spent a night in my own residence with out at least one Thing. A holiday in my own home. How novel. We played table tennis (I'm so out of practice). We played Mario Cart Wii...

Since I have no privacy
I may as well write it out on the blog. Seriously. M&G has revealed that the RSA goverment spies on us. Not that this is exactly a revelation. The apartheid government was infamous for this. The issue is: people were under the impression that this was something the bad government did rather than a South African tradition. Or perhaps it has something to do with the South African government's reverence of China. Either way, I can't claim to be horrified. Oh, don't get me wrong, I don't like it. I think it is shameful. But if rumours are to be...

Dear Home Affairs,
I'd like to bring to your attention that according to the law of The United Kingdom that I have been legally hitched to the South African citizen - Husband Beautement - for eleven years. Now in the interest of transparency, I will fully admit that the only reason I considered marrying your loyal citizen - Husband Beautement - on the 13th of October, 2000 (which just so happened to be Friday the 13th complete with a full moon) was to work out some legal issues. But in my defence I'd like to raise two points: 1. The United Kingdom had...

A link to an e-interview for Damaria
Damaria is an e-friend of mine (just so you know) and has just published a book called How to Get Quoted in the Media. There is an interview of her with NY Mafia, which you can read here. The reason I am linking this specific interview rather than other forms of her promotion is due to the way Damaria discusses this book as part of her writing journey. There are so many articles and interviews out there that slam self-publishing and / or e publishing, then there is the entire opposite where folks slam the traditional route. It is clear...

Disclaimer, disclaimer, disclaimer...
Smart Bitches, Trashy Books - the blog for all your HEA* reviews - had an interesting post the other day. Apparently there was some concern over her integrity given she reviews books. Always a fine line. I've mentioned before that I'm not sure where I am with all this. I don't review books on this blog. I highlight what I liked and why. Which is sort of like a review, but a real review shows pros, cons and will post books they don't like. Nor does every SA book I enjoy pop up here. I read SL Grey's The Mall...

Is this the road to recovery?
Today was day 12 of the ever increasing pain. My neck felt as if it were in a clench - a type of MMA move that is uncomfortable for a reason. One thing for it to be temporary, another for it to administered unrelentingly by a ghost. I've tried many tricks to distract from the pain, including painting my fingers a cheery lilac. I've given our tadpoles fond attention, showing a bit too much excitement that we now have some with four legs. (Yes, I do need to get a real pet soon.) But my ability to keep a lid...
