Fear the Walking Dead Season 3 Premiere: Recap & Discussion
Season 3 Episode 1 “Eye of The Beholder”
Madison, Travis, and Alicia are escorted by soldiers into a military camp, where they’re separated. Travis is taken to a warehouse where he’s processed and miraculously reunited with Nick and Luciana. As he catches them up, Alicia and Madison get acquainted with one of the soldiers Troy, who Madison pleads with to help her find Nick. He refuses and leaves to conduct experiments on the dead.
The soldiers take Travis and the others to a bathroom, where one of the prisoners is shot in the chest. The following day, Travis interrogates the soldiers about their ethics when they decide to take Nick for their next experiment. Travis volunteers instead and uses the opportunity to attack them. A walker bites a soldier while Travis and the rest escape.
Madison convinces Troy to help them escape when suddenly, they hear a gunshot outside and Troy runs off to investigate. Nick and Luciana make their way down a sewer while Travis gets re-captured and Troy instructs his men to take him out back. Troy returns to Madison and Alicia’s room where they attack him. Madison stabs him in the eye with a spoon and promises to cut it out if he doesn’t help them.
Nick and Luciana limp their way to the end of the tunnel, where they’re met by a horde of walkers and have to head back. The soldiers throw Travis into an infected pit where he stabs, bashes, and even punches the infected to death. The soldiers are impressed, but release more infected into the put. Madison holds Troy to spoon-point and demands other soldiers find her family. She releases him and Troy informs her of Travis’ whereabouts.
Alicia hears Nick getting attacked by an infected in the sewer and tries to help when she’s taken by soldiers. Thankfully, Luciana saves him. Madison arrives at the pit to discover Travis…alive. Alicia and Nick are then finally reunited with Travis and Madison…their first reunion in weeks. Later, Madison and Travis clean up and prepare to leave.
The walkers Nick and Luciana accidentally released overtake the depot. Madison becomes surrounded and Nick, Travis, and the soldiers rescue her. Travis, Luciana, and Nick leave on the helicopter while Madison and Nick leave in the truck. Troy reassures Madison they’re all going to the same place as the helicopter with half of her family flies overhead.
Season 3 Episode 2: The New Frontier
Travis, Alicia, and Luciana’s helicopter comes under fire and Travis gets hit by a bullet. His intestines pour our and Travis and drops out of the chopper, falling to his death. The next day, Madison and Nick travel with the soldiers to an RV satellite camp where they discover the helicopter crew hasn’t arrived yet. Elsewhere, Alicia tends to Luciana’s wounds while the group plans their next moves.
At the hotel Strand, who falsely professed to be a doctor, is asked to help deliver a baby. He panics but then relents. Meanwhile, Nick argues with Madison about making friends with their captors. Nick storms off and Madison’s introduced to Troy’s father, Jeremiah Otto, who welcomes them both to his ranch.
Jeremiah gives them the grand tour, informing them he’s building a new nation. He leaves and Nick voices concern to Madison about him being the father of a monster. She advises him to stow away his rage for later but he dismisses her. That night, Alicia, Jake, and Charlene discuss their families around a campfire until Jake’s attacked and Alicia has to save him. Unfortunately, she’s unable to save Charlene.
The next day Strand encounters Ilene (the one who stabbed him last season). Despite her manic state, Strand’s able to calm her down and they have a nice heart-to-heart about their past lives. Finally at peace, she hands him a gift and then jumps off the balcony (as one does).
Alicia and Jake carry Luciana to The Ranch, where Madison immediately greets them. Alicia’s forced to tell her about Travis while Nick runs over to tend to Luciana. Troy’s convinced Luci’s doomed so he takes his gun out to finish her, but Nick insists on doing it himself. He points the gun at Troy’s head and demands they let Luci in. Jeremiah finally relents and agrees to allow Luci in the infirmary as Madison takes time for herself to cope with her loss. Shortly after, Jeremiah consoles her while Nick consoles Alicia.
Elsewhere, Strand finds the car Ilene left him and uses it to leave the hotel for good. Madison informs Nick and Alicia her plan for them to stay at the ranch for now, even if it means they eventually have to overtake it.
What did you think of Travis’ demise? Where is Strand headed? And can Madison and the gang rebuild their lives at the Otto ranch? Tell us in the comments!

Fear the Walking Dead Season Three Cheat Sheet
Fear the Walking Dead’s third season premieres this Sunday and we’re here to catch you up on the story in case you need a refresher or haven’t watched since Season One (no judgments). Here’s where everything stands:
The Abigail Plantation
Strand’s backstory finally got filled in when he revealed his plan for the boat – travel to Mexico to reunite with his lover Thomas Abigail at his family’s massive plantation. After surviving pirates and border challenges Strand and the crew miraculously made their way to the Abigail plantation (yay!) where they found Thomas dying from a walker bite (no!) Once he bit the dust, his mother Gloria (who treats walkers like Hershel did at the farm) demanded Strand and his crew leave.
After Daniel discovered her walker hoarding secrets, got tied up, and experienced crazy hallucinations about his dead wife, he broke free and burned the plantation to the ground while the crew fled.
The Colonia
Following the plantation fire Nick (who chose to live among the walkers after getting brainwashed by Gloria) abandoned the crew to traverse Mexico on his own. After nearly losing his life Nick miraculously crawled his way to Tijuana, where he met Luciana (a badass survivor). She nursed him back to health and acclimated him to her colonia. After he earned enough trust around town he helped her negotiate supply trades with a local gang that only Breaking Bad’s Tuco would get along with.
Everything seemed fine until Nick learned the gang planned to overrun the colonia and kill its inhabitants. Nick warned the others and overthrew their leader, who lied to his people about being immune to walkers only to get bitten and die. Nick led most of them out with Luciana (while the gang got ambushed by walkers) and were ALMOST home free until they were attacked and captured by a militarized unit, who shot (but didn’t kill) Luciana.
The Hotel Hideout
While Nick settled into his new life Madison, Alicia, Ofelia, and Strand holed up in a massive hotel that turned out to be packed with walkers, disgruntled hotel staff survivors, and a vengeful American family who’s wedding went awry when the apocalypse hit. They quickly allied themselves with the staff survivors and together trapped walkers in rooms while taking in outsiders for medical attention. Although Ofelia stole Strand’s truck and left, life seemed to be pretty manageable at the hotel.
The Farm
MEANWHILE Travis and Chris (who left the plantation before the fire due to Chris acting like a lunatic) met some young survivors that Chris could relate to. Travis was skeptical of their morals but Chris demanded they all stick together. They settled into a farm and it wasn’t long before the new kids were exposed as evil friend-killers and Travis was the odd man out. Chris and his new ‘friends’ left the farm while Travis began his own journey that miraculously led him to the hotel (thanks to Madison guiding him by turning the power on at night).
The Betrayal
Chris quickly discovered that hid dad’s warning about his new buds was right. During their travels Chris fell asleep at the wheel and crashed their truck into a tree. He crawled out of the crash with a broken leg, which rendered him useless to his nearly unscathed friends. They put him down like a dog and made their way to, you guessed it, the hotel!
The Revenge
Madison’s hotel light show attracted Travis, Chris’ sh*tty friends, and a whole bunch of survivors seeking shelter. Everything plunged into chaos when Travis recognized and killed Chris’ friends after they admitted to killing his son (Travis’ rage also accidentally got one of the hotel staff members killed in the process).
None of this jived with the staff so Travis was forced to leave the hotel. Madison and Alicia accompanied him while Strand decided to stay. Finally re-united, Madison, Travis, and Alicia set out to locate Nick. After some solid leads they ended up at the colonia RIGHT after Nick and Luciana led the people out. So close!
Wait, What about Ofelia?
After losing both parents Ofelia stole a truck, left the hotel, and headed for the border on her mission. After killing countless walkers and surviving the terrain she eventually arrived at the American border. Her victory didn’t last long as she was immediately captured by a border patrol vigilante, who we’ll see a LOT more of in Season 3.
There you have it – you’re officially caught up on Fear the Walking Dead just in time for Sunday’s premiere. Still have questions? Hit us up in the comments and we’ll answer.

The Walking Dead’s Austin Nichols on Spencer’s Iconic Death!
SPOILER WARNING!
Seriously, we go hard on details of this last season of The Walking Dead and Bates Motel, so tread lightly beyond this point!
This guy might have beefed it twice this past television season, but he’s very much alive and in our studio! Austin Nichols (The Walking Dead, Bates Motel, One Tree Hill) sits down with Clarke Wolfe to dig into his gruesome death in The Walking Dead along with his shower mishap in Bates Motel!
Once just a young lad growing up in Austin, Texas, living life as you do, Austin witnessed the cinema masterpiece Dazed and Confused and realized what his dream was: to be an actor. After starring in the hit show One Tree Hill, Austin was then boosted into the limelight landing roles on Ray Donovan, The Walking Dead and Bates Motel.
Watch as we dive deep into the psychology of an actor who has to constantly die on screen and the enigma that is Ethan Hawke’s walk (that’s right… you read that correctly).
We’ve already said too much, enjoy the interview!
Go follow them!
