The Unexpected

With all the places we have been visiting on the arc tour,  I’ve thought back on some road trips that I have taken.  Road trips are funny things.  You set out with all these expectations for how it will turn out, but very often the unexpected happens.  Sometimes that’s a very good thing.  And sometimes not.  But either way, without a doubt, the unexpected is what leaves the strongest impression.

I have two road trips I look back at, and both left an indelible impression on me but in very differen

A Busy Weekend

I'm getting a slow start to Monday.  I am usually a pretty early riser but I slept in a bit this morning. Yesterday I went on a beautiful five-mile hike along the beach and at Torrey Pines State Reserve .  It pretty much wiped me out--not so much because of the distance but because of the incredible humidity.  We don't have a lot of that in California, but with the monsoons stirring up from Mexico, we've been getting our share lately. The first part of the hike is through the hills and towering c

Now we have arrived at . . .

The Bronze Fonz.  Which is perfect.

Don't ask.

Just go here and enjoy the magic. The spirit of The Miles Between is at every turn.

It seems like it was "destiny" for the road trip to zip up to [info:] lisaalbert's neck of the woods.

Thank you, Lisa, for an amazing journey.

Doing a happy dance . . .

in California!

The Miles Between received an awesome *starred* review from Kirkus.

They say things like:

"Pearson mesmerizes with a heavily cryptic back story that explodes with full emotional force."

"a terrifyingly beautiful truant day"

" page-turning suspense"

Thank you, Kirkus!

Still smiling and dancing . . .

And now The Miles Between ARC is

chilling on a deck with awesome teachers, writers, and librarians. I want to trade places with that ARC, I tell ya.
And it even got to hang out with a fellow ARC--arcs do get lonely!

And if that's not enough, it got to pose next to the world's largest . . .
Well, you will just have to click here to find out!

The The Miles Between  road trip continues!

Thank you [info:] jeannineatkins  for showing MILES a good time and for sharing your neck of the woods!

Books on TV

Still recovering from Comic-Con--more to follow soon, but I wanted to give a quick hoot:  This morning on  ABC afilliate's WTNH Good Morning CT, Katie Davis   talked up some books   including The Adoration of Jenna Fox as part of a "Bookcation."

I think it is wonderful that a TV station has a segment about books and I hope it becomes a regular feature.  Please, stop by  and watch the brief video and comment so they know that we want Katie to keep talking about books!

Where in the world . . .

is The Miles Between   now?!

This stop is over-the-top fun--complete with slide show!

I cracked up, as I imagined  [info:] newport2newport taking some of these pictures.  I am sure raised eyebrows, scratching of heads, and a little mooing and clucking were involved.  It is really fun to see so many people (and other creatures) being such good sports about holding a book and having their picture taken.

I love all the places and people that MILES is seeing.

Still smiling . . .

Comic Con in San Diego

I finally dug out the specifics for my panel at Comic Con .  Here they are:

FRIDAY, 12:30-1:30
Future Fond Memories— Narnia, Oz, Neverland—we all have our favorite memories of stories from our youth. How do today's authors create works that will be beloved by tomorrow's adults? Young adult authors Michael Spradlin (Keeper of the Grail: The Youngest Templar), Michael Reisman (Simon Bloom: The Octopus Effect), Sara Rees Brennan (The Demon's Lexicon), James Owen (The Indigo King), Mary Pearson (The A

Several Tuesday thoughts . . .

~ Thank you brilliant ones all for your replies to my last post about magical realism. I got a lot of wonderful suggestions.

~ As I mentioned a few days ago, I am going to be at Comic Con this Friday. I will be presenting on a panel with several amazing authors: Michael Spradlin, Michael Reisman, Sarah Rees Brennan, James Owen, aka [info:] coppervale, P.J. Haarsma, and Alyson Noel. Lucky me, I probably won't need to open my mouth once--I can listen to them!  But what to wear. what to wear . . . I have n

Magical Realism, Miles, Comic Con, & Question

I was trying to give someone a short synopsis of what MILES was about, and I am never good at short--or synopsis either for that matter.  It is hard to wrap something you know every comma about into two or three sentences.  You always leave something out--especially since you don't want to give anything away.  So I usually resort to giving a comparison so they can have some sort of "feel"  for the story too.

There is an element of the fantastic in MILES, or maybe a sliver of magical realism.  The
