CAIN BUT NOT ABLE
I sat in my parked car and stared out into midnight nothing. Three Lilys songs on repeat for three hours. They were in this order:
Text within this block will maintain its original spacing when published1. Ginger2. Claire Hates Me3. Day of the MonkeyIt’s an episodic version of sinking that dances and weaves in and out of time. And in these episodes I’m ten, thirteen, fifteen, eighteen, twenty-seven, thirty-three and so on. My stomach hurts but no pill or actual ginger fixes that kind. I conside...

GRAVITY HAS BROUGHT ME HERE
Hello - I’m home from two months of touring and am spent by song, exhaustion, love, highway, conversation, connection, incompetence, satisfaction, understated understanding and a hurricane of mental menial entry, collateral tender gymnastics, all must exist in the landfill of my mind. The wheels and the highways have run the length of my face, a country’s worth under and over. All to say, I loved the shows and I live for the shows and it’s been a minute since I’ve sent a letter from here so I w...

THE BAND PLAYED ON
Oh well here it is: I missed you all. I missed this desk and this coffee and the sound of the water running from the lion’s-mouth-fountain while writing about the state of my affairs, bobsledding down memory-tundra-vehicle-in-the-ditch-lane, sewn spoiled oats, hardcore synth pop, chaos rains, muse chasing, mainstream/downstream, ready set go. I missed it all.
The world is different now. The roads look mostly the same. There is an air of anxiety floating around every sentence spoken. The toll col...

CORRIDOR OF DREAMS: LA-LONDON-BRUGES-ANTWERP-OSTEND IN 36 HOURS
Good Morning Young Prisoner,
Writing to you from the temporary serenity of home, lion’s mouth fountain running, green everywhere, dark and pre-city takeover. We landed Sunday evening after almost two days in Belgium, and after a few days wandering through Bruges and Antwerp and their beauty, with the calm Belgian countryside in-between, to LA pushing luggage like salmon, battling traffic out of the Los Angeles airport, it’s all to say… I don’t know what we are doing here. I love Los Angeles. I ca...

DIED PRETTY
Ron S. Peno passed away quietly and I saw not enough mentions of this loss. A brilliant Australian songwriter formerly of the band Died Pretty whose solo work echoes the inherent built-in dark and reverb-drenched, city-cowboy-country blues also found in Crime & The City Solution and early Nick Cave / Birthday Party material. Even The Dead C has that humidity built in. Something specific in that side of the Pacific... Here are two songs of his I think you would love and should check out in honor ...

YOU REALLY COULD HAVE HAD IT ALL
Good Morning Dear Supporters,
Here is a Cold Cave song you haven’t heard, and beneath the lyrics below, a link for the gracious paid subscribers to download and pretend hold. It was recorded sometime during the fruitful years that were 2020-21. Travis Shinn took the above photo, of course.
I hope you are well, more soon.

HELLO FROM THE BOWERY
Hello from NYC, writing to you from the Bowery, from a different lifeline, and from a dimly lit lobby where the AC is good and the hospitality is ok. I hope you all are well.
We’ve been here for a handful of days. Two strange coincidences from days 1/2:

MONET'S HAYSTACKS REMAIN UNBROKEN
It’s almost 7am and I woke up with an old friend, Robert Bly’s poem “Monet’s Haystacks” stuck in my head. I was looking for a particular recording to share with you, from his spoken word recording entitled “The Night Abraham Called To The Stars”, but it didn’t seem to exist in any modern realm, so I’ve uploaded it for our listening pleasure. The best od…
