Sensual Sunday – Hot excerpt from Forbidden Blood, a vampire romance novel

Sensual Sunday is brought to you today by Forbidden Blood, which is one of my stand alone vampire romance novels, and another of my favourite books. Sensual Sunday’s always feature a hotter excerpt from one of my paranormal romance books. Read on for this Sunday’s sensual snippet…

“Come on.” She grabbed his arm.

He looked at her hand on him, slender but strong. She walked away, luring him along the length of the bar to where she had been sitting, and he followed her blindly.

Kearn’s eyes stuck like glue to the back of her neck, catching teasing glimpses of the nape of it and the black velvet choker through her dark hair. He longed to part the brown waves and kiss there, to run his tongue over her skin and taste her, and feel her shiver in pleasure. He wanted to ease his fangs in deep and slow, claiming her and her blood as his and his alone. Nothing compared to biting someone, to the incredible rush from the connection and the intense intoxicating feel of their blood in your veins. It was what he had been born to do—to take life from the blood of humans like a thief.

Like a beast.

And right now, he wanted to take all of Amber. He wanted to strip away the mask and show her just what he was underneath—a creature lost in her, thirsting for her body and blood.

For her love.

He tore his eyes away from her neck, horrified by his last thought and the realisation that his hunger for her went beyond physical need to an emotional one.

She stopped by her stool and flagged down the bartender, giving him a wide smile.

Kearn stared at the man, remembering what he had said. Lonely. The hand around his throat dropped to his chest and he focused there. Did it really show? Had Amber seen it? He had been on his guard around her but there had been times when he had felt as though she had looked right down into his heart and seen the man beneath the armour.

Amber put a tall glass of icy dark liquid into Kearn’s hand, bringing his attention back to her. She held a similar glass. He sniffed his. Sweet and bubbly. Some sort of soft drink. It was cold against his hand but would do nothing to satisfy his thirst.

Amber only made it worse.

She tilted her head back, her profile to him, and drank her drink. He couldn’t stop himself from staring at her throat. It was unbearable to see it so exposed, so clean and soft and smooth, crying out for him to mark it. He wanted to tear off her choker and sink his teeth into her, to pull her close and feel her heart pound against his, beating as one.

Kearn clamped his mouth shut against the strong urge to bite her. His fangs extended enough to catch his lower lip. He licked the blood but it wasn’t enough. It had to be her blood. Only that would satisfy his craving. The voice at the back of his mind, deep in his heart, commanded him to bite her.

She lowered the glass from her lips and looked at him with beautiful round eyes, tempting him with her innocence.

His fangs receded with only a little resistance.

“You’re not drinking?” She frowned at his glass. “It’s my treat.”

She flicked the long dark waves of hair away from her neck and strands of it stuck to her damp skin. He narrowed his eyes on the pulse fluttering on her throat. If it was her treat, he would drink her down in one go.

It took all of his willpower to resist surrendering to the desire to give in to temptation. His blood pounded in his temples, driven to a frenzy by the unquenchable and undeniable hunger he felt for Amber. It wasn’t just her blood. It was everything about her—her smile, her beauty, her body, and how she looked at him sometimes with concern. He had never experienced such need, such intense attraction and desire, for anyone in all his years.

Not even the countess.

His need for Amber, his hunger for her, was raw and uncontrollable. It thundered in his veins and ran deep in his bones. It commanded him. Ruled him.

She smiled and then frowned at his face.

“You’ve cut your lip.” She touched it with her delicate fingertip, peering closely. The warm caress enticed him, making his lower lip tingle, and the smell of blood was too strong to fight. He couldn’t take it.

His fangs began to extend again and he almost gave in to the desire to nick her finger with them. He couldn’t do that. He couldn’t make her like him.

Kearn stepped back and covered his mouth as his fangs fully extended, his eyes as wide as hers were.

The flames of desire burnt away the last threads of his restraint and he turned away, sensing that his eyes were about to change against his will too. He didn’t want her to see him. He didn’t want to be himself around her.

“Is something wrong?” Amber touched his arm.

He shirked her grip and took another step away from her.

“I am unwell. Excuse me,” he said and rushed into the crowd, heading through the packed club towards the bathroom.

Humans blocked his path, bumping into him and making it hard to get through. The smell of their blood increased his hunger. He kept his hand over his mouth and pushed through, shoving them aside in his haste to reach the relative safety of the bathroom. The room began to brighten. His eyes were changing. He squinted and lowered his head, forcing his way through the hot bodies that stank of wretched blood.

And all the while, he could smell the sweet scent of hers.

His mind filled with visions of Amber. He saw himself taking her into his arms, her warm supple body moulded against the hot hard steel of his, and sinking his fangs deep into her throat. He would drink every drop of her blood without a moment’s regret and it still wouldn’t be enough. He would do it regardless of the fact that he would hate himself in the aftermath.

Kearn hit the bathroom door so hard it slammed into the tiled wall and wouldn’t close automatically. A man standing at one of the white basins lining the left hand wall of the bright room made a quick exit. Kearn grabbed the door and forced it shut. He stumbled to the row of white sinks and ran the water in one until it was freezing, and then splashed it over his face. It didn’t stop the images of Amber from dancing around his mind. He could see everything he had dreamed and swore he could feel her naked body against his.

Kearn doused himself in water again. It did nothing to cool him. He was on fire, sweat beading and running down his skin. Burning for her.

He gripped the edge of the white basin with trembling hands and stared at himself in the long bank of mirrors above the sinks. Red eyes watched him. His other side. The one he didn’t want her to see. Why did he fear it all of a sudden? Being a vampire had never bothered him before. His species were above humans. They were strong and beautiful. Not beasts.

So why did Amber make him feel like an animal?

How did she make him feel so hungry?

He had never felt such thirst. Never. He had tasted forbidden blood before but it hadn’t left him feeling this way—needing another fix. Needing her.

Snippet Saturday – Author’s Choice – Heart of Darkness (Vampire Romance Book)

It’s time for Snippet Saturday! Each week has a theme or is author’s choice. This week the theme is Author’s Choice.

For my snippet this week, I decided to choose a scene from my vampire romance book, Heart of Darkness, which features one of my favourite heroes, Aleksandr, a vampire prince on a mission of vengeance against hunters.

Aleksandr ran his thumb along her jaw and looked deep into her eyes.

“Seeing you in danger… I have never felt such fear… and then hearing you say that you desired to hunt, that you would place your mouth on another man and take his blood into you, drove me insane with a need to kill.”

Elise was silent. She wasn’t sure what she could say.

Her eyes slowly widened when he undid the buttons of his coat and removed it, dropping it down on the dry ground at their feet, and then unbuttoned his white shirt.

He bore his throat to her, tilting his chin up, and the sight of it sent hunger crashing through her.

It was unmarked. She had never noticed it before but now she couldn’t fail to. His pulse beat slowly but strongly, each minute marked by a tick just below the curve of his jaw that enticed her into biting him. She counted five before she found the strength to tear her eyes away and look into his again.

“I have fed well recently,” he whispered, keeping his chin up. “Take my blood.”

Elise wasn’t sure how to respond. He was still healing and needed the strength his blood gave him. She couldn’t take it and weaken him. Even though sense told her to refuse him, the larger part of her begged her to taste him, to sink her fangs into his throat and feel the thrill of his blood in her veins.

His look darkened, edging on disappointment.

He huffed. “You do not trust me or believe what I have told you. I will be open with you, Elise. Blood cannot lie and you will see only the truth in it, starting with this.”

He exposed his right wrist to her. There was a scar on it as though someone had slashed it. What had happened to him? Her eyes searched his.

“I have only fed one other in all of my years.” He touched his wrist, his thumb sweeping over the long scar, and his look softened. “My sister could not be revived so simply, although I prayed that she could to save my soul from darkness.”

A shiver danced down Elise’s spine and she stared at Aleksandr’s wrist and the way he was touching it. His words moved her, making her feel honoured by what he was offering her. He had never shared his blood with anyone except his beloved sister. Elise couldn’t refuse him now. He was offering her more than blood. It was proof of his feelings and his need for her.

It was everything that she wanted.

Aleksandr held his hand out to her and she didn’t hesitate. She placed hers into it and took a long slow breath to calm her growing nerves. She wasn’t sure what she would see but she would know once and for all whether he was being honest with her.

Whether he loved her.

She stepped into his embrace and looked at his throat. The strong beat of his heart lured her gaze to his jugular and she licked her lips, her stomach growling at the thought of tasting him. Would she be able to handle the strength of the blood that flowed in his veins? She hoped that she could and that she would be able to stop herself from taking too much. She had never bitten someone before. There was a chance she would go too far and she hoped that Aleksandr would have the sense to stop her. She wasn’t sure how much blood she could take or how honest he was being about his strength and how well fed he was. His injuries would have needed a large amount of blood in order to heal them.

It didn’t matter. She wasn’t going to pass up on what he was offering her. She was going to bite him.

Elise reached up and stroked the line of his throat, loving the way his eyes slipped shut as though her caress alone was bliss. She had to tiptoe to kiss his neck, her hands clutching his shoulders, his left one harder than his right.

Aleksandr lowered himself and she slipped her arms around his neck, ran her fingers through the short hair at the back of his head and kissed his throat again. He sighed against hers.

“You are torturing me, Elise,” he whispered and her canines extended, the sharp points brushing her lips.

It wasn’t fear that made her dance around biting him. It was the thought of losing control. She licked his throat, savouring the taste of his skin and the feel of it, and then eased her fangs into the curve of the left side of his neck.

He groaned and she shivered, her legs instantly going slack as the first drop of blood touched her tongue. His hands claimed her waist, holding her steady and close against his body, and he backed her into the wall, pinning her there in a way that sent a different kind of hunger spiralling through her.

She wasn’t ready for the bolt of lust that followed the bite and the taste of his blood on her tongue. It was strong and violent, seizing control until she was desperate to slake both her thirst and her desire.

Guest Post – Amanda J Greene introduces Caressed by Moonlight (Rulers of Darkness Book 1)

This week, my guest blogger is the lovely Amanda J Greene, and she’s here to tell you all about Caressed by Moonlight, the first book in her Rulers of Darkness series!

Here’s a juicy excerpt from this paranormal romance…

Excerpt

“What did I tell you?” Lana smirked as she pulled Victoria away from her mob of admirers. She had been the center of attention since she walked through the door. Men crowded around her and argued over which one would dance with her next. Her feet ached from their clumsy feet and her ears rang from their boisterous voices.

“I told you that your age would not matter, nor your lack of a fortune.”

“Indeed, you did,” Victoria whispered back.

“And these girls certainly pale in comparison to you,” Lana went on. “You look ravishing and I’m confident that all the men here will agree with me.”

“I had not expected to have so many suitors. How am I to choose?”

“Well, all I can say is that every girl here is jealous of you. No woman has ever had so many men after her at one time.”

“I feel like a fox in a fox hunt.”

“Yes, and they are the hounds,” Lana said as she glanced back at the group of men watching them walk away. “But you needn’t pick one just yet, there are more parties to attend, more men to meet. London has a pool of young bachelors ripe for the picking.”

“You make them sound like fruit,” Victoria laughed.

“And when you hear them talking about us they make us sound like brood mares waiting to be bred.”

The girls’ giggles vibrated through the room, turning curious heads. They smothered their smiles and slipped from the ballroom to the hall.

“So,” Lana began once she got her giggles under control, “have any of them caught your fancy yet? I noticed some very handsome gentlemen surrounding you. Would you like to add any of them to the list we made this morning?”

“Just about every one of them in that group,” she glanced over her shoulder, “are too young for me.”

“Too young, my foot.”

“If you haven’t noticed, Lana, all the older and more mature men are in the card room. Those that are in the ballroom have kept their distance. They must be intimidated by all the young blood.”

Lana glanced across the hall at the smoky room. “Those men are no fun.”

“Exactly, they are more serious. If I told them my predicament they would be more apt to understand than those featherweights parading themselves out on the dance floor.”

“So, you don’t want some jack-a-dandy. That makes sense,” Lana said with a shrug. “I don’t blame you, I wouldn’t want my husband chasing after light skirts all the time either, but the men in the card room have perfected the game of seductions like an art form. They know how to twist a woman’s heart.”

“Scandal is more than likely attached to their names, but I also think they would find a marriage in name-only more suitable.”

“That is a very good point if you don’t plan on having any children,” Lana added.

“I could marry a man who already has children.”

“Miss Richmond!” a woman called, waving her handkerchief in the air.

Lana groaned as she smoothed her dress and rolled her eyes.

“We have been spotted,” she whispered.

“By whom?”

“Tabitha Wisten and her mother, the two worst gossips in all of England,” Lana said. “They probably want an introduction to the woman who has been turning all the young men’s heads. Be careful,” she warned, “they may pounce on any word you say.”

“Here you are. I have been looking all over for you. Have you been hiding from me all night?” Miss Tabitha Winsten said with a smile.

“No, of course not,” Lana lied. She had deliberately stepped from Tabitha’s view every chance she got.

“I see that you are being quite rude, Miss Richmond,” Lady Wisten noted, her eyes pinned on Victoria. “Will you please introduce us to your friend?”

“Yes, I’m sorry. Lady Wisten and Miss Wisten, allow me to introduce, Miss Kingston.”

“Kingston? That name sounds very familiar.”

“Of course it does, Miss Wisten, we just read about Lord Kingston’s death in the paper,” the mother said. “I’m sorry about your parents, it must be hard.”

“Yes, it was hard,” Victoria agreed, ignoring the woman’s insincere tone.

“Are your son and husband in attendance this evening?” Lana asked, changing the subject. She knew that if she did not interfere, Lady Wisten and her bitch of a daughter would rip into Victoria like a sack of grain.

“Garry is in the card room with my husband. Is any of your family here?”

“My mother,” Lana replied.

“I trust she is in good health?” Lady Wisten asked, her eyes still fixed on Victoria who returned her stare.

“Yes, my mother is always in excellent health, thank you.”

“And your aunt, Miss Kingston, is she well? I am afraid I have not seen much of her recently.”

“She seemed in perfect health when I arrived.”

“And when was that?”

“Last evening.”

“Don’t you think attending a ball so soon after your parents’ deaths is inappropriate? I would―”

“Oh, mother,” Miss Winsten interjected. “Did you see who just arrived?”

The Wisten women craned their necks as they peered down the hall to the front door.

“What is he doing here?” Lady Wisten asked.

“Thank god. They have someone else to talk about now. Watch these gossipers go,” Lana whispered in Victoria’s ear.

“He has not accepted an invitation to a social gathering in almost two weeks.”

“No doubt he’s been entertaining himself with all the ladies that threw themselves at him at the last ball he attended,” Lady Wisten grunted. “I heard the widow, Lady Tillman, was spotted leaving his home the other day and just this morning, three gypsy women departed from his front door. One can only imagine the sinful things that are taking place in that fine house.”

“Or perhaps he did not like any of the other hosts,” Victoria suggested. She had no clue as about whom they were speaking, but she could not resist the urge to ruffle their feathers.

The two Wisten women cast irritated glares at her and returned to their chatting.

“I heard that Sir Rowel’s wife was seen leaving his home as well.”

“Do you think he even received an invitation? Lady Allen normally doesn’t approve of his type,” Miss Wisten pointed out.

“My dear, his type does not need an invitation and Lady Allen will probably be ecstatic that he has graced her overstuffed ball with his presence.”

“His type?” Victoria asked Lana in a whisper.

“I can’t see the man, but I assume they are talking about Prince Dorian Vlakhos. He is rumored to a prince from some far-off country near Russia. He arrived about a month ago and quickly became the talk of the ton. Women flock to him every time he enters a room and, according to the gossip mill, he has sampled his fair share of ladies this season. Despite the rumors of his love making skills, he remains quite a mystery.”

“Well, he won’t stay a mystery for too long with those two around.” Lana smiled and they turned their ears back to the gossips.

“Have you heard about Prince Dorian, Miss Kingston?” Miss Wisten asked.

“A little,” she answered, glancing toward Lana.

“He is the most eligible bachelor this season, extremely rich and titled,” Lady Wisten stated.

“But he is a rake,” Miss Wisten added, “and it is just sinful the way women flaunt themselves before him.”

“He is very handsome,” Lana admitted simply.

Mother and daughter gasped at her forwardness and Victoria bit her lip trying not to laugh.

“I wonder how many hearts he will conquer tonight?” Miss Wisten said. “It seems that the second he enters a room all the young girls fall in love with him.”

“He will conquer plenty I fear. You two,” Lady Wisten snatched up both Victoria and Lana’s hands, “should be careful. He will try to steal your hearts I’m sure. Don’t fall for his sugared words or his sinful smiles. He is a devil, that boy, and he will lead you straight to ruin.”

“Being ruined by him wouldn’t be so horrible,” Lana whispered.

“What was that?” Lady Wisten said.

“Your advice will be heeded.”

“Good,” she released the girl’s hands and once again fixed her eyes on Victoria. “I’m sure the last thing your parents would have wanted is for you to be swimming in scandal.”

“I full-heartedly agree,” Victoria said.

“Your mother caused enough trouble for your family, you needn’t add to it.”

Victoria opened her mouth, a deadly insult ready on her tongue, but Lana pinched her arm in warning. Victoria glared at her friend.

“It is awfully warm in here. Lady Allen really should cut her guest list,” Lana said as she tugged on the back of Victoria’s dress.

“Yes,” Victoria agreed, fanning herself with her hand.

“Champagne may cool us off.”

“I could certainly use a drink,” Victoria mumbled under her breath before she turned and stomped into the ballroom, leaving Lana behind to excuse them.

She snatched up a glass of champagne but did not stop. She smiled to a few of the men at the refreshment table and continued on into the night. To Victoria, the cool air was refreshing and a blessing. It was hot beyond belief in that crowded room and her rising temper was no help at all. Lady Wisten’s words stung. She would not be surprised if the lady and her aunt were best friends. Their opinion of her dear, late mother was the same.

***

Dorian despised parties. He hated the young girls fighting for his attention and he hated the jealous men. But he could not serve his Clan if he wasn’t seen. He had to mingle with society if he was to draw the attention of the hunters away from his family.

Women smiled at him, fluttered their lashes, and even winked at him as he made his way through the room. Some were even bolder. They pressed against him and quickly whispered their names and addresses in his ear. It was the same everywhere he went. Even when he had been human, women would beg for him to take them to his bed.

Ever since it got out that Lady Tillman had paid him a strictly social visit, he was now the talk of the ton. He had been interested in renting one of her properties to stable his horses and, naturally, the bored, twisted minds of the aristocracy would have to distort it into an afternoon tryst. Whoever had spread the gossip must have completely forgotten that Lady Tillman had entered and departed his home in the presence of her full-grown nephew, who had taken over her financial affairs since the passing of her husband.

There was no possible way he could not deny that he had taken lovers within the last month but he preferred his own kind. Humans could be so fragile. His few tumbles had been with vampires and those very talented gypsy women.

Dorian shook hands with a few of the men and exchanged pleasant words with a few of the more respectable ladies before he dashed outside. He took in a deep breath of the fresh night air and spared a glance up at the moon. The sky was not as clear as it was back home and he found it irritating. The one thing that had ever given him peace was the brilliant shine of the moon.

“It isn’t as clear as the country.”

“I’m sorry?”

“The sky. It is clearer in the country,” Victoria said as she stepped from the shadows of the trees.

The man turned to face her and she gasped as if she had been struck. He was tall, taller than any man she had ever seen, muscled and thick. Strands of deep brown hair fell across his angelic yet masculine face, her fingers twitched with the desire to brush them away from his magnificent eyes. Those fathoms of blue were like the sea after a tremendous storm, piercing, penetrating, and exotic. His jaw was straight and square, his lips thin and alluring. He was absolutely beautiful, in a dangerous, very masculine way.

“Yes.” Dorian’s delicious lips turned up in a smile.

His husky voice moved over her skin like a caress, her entire body was aflame as his smoldering gaze that roamed over her, leaving nothing untouched.

Dorian was swept away by this young woman’s beauty. She looked like an ancient goddess. Her nearly black hair sat in tight ringlets atop her head. He could see every detail of her face in the moonlight. Her deep, green eyes framed with long, flirting lashes, her slim nose, perfectly molded cheekbones, and lush lips that would tempt any man. His eyes slowly moved down the length of her bare neck, over her slender shoulders, and paused for the briefest of moments on her full breasts then continued their journey across her waist and hips, all the way down to the hem of her gown.

Victoria shook her head trying to remember why it was she had come outside. She commanded herself to think and forced the thick, sensual haze from her mind. She turned her eyes back to the man and found that his had never once left her. The way he studied her was beginning to grow irksome and she had the sudden desire to slap that satisfied smirk off his face.

“I do believe you are staring, sir.”

“I am,” he said, his smile widening. And he wasn’t finished. He looked her over once more, much to Victoria’s aggravation. “Do you belong to anyone?” he asked.

“Belong, sir?”

“Yes.”

“I don’t believe that is any of your business.”

“Ah, no one?” he said, his interest rising.

“That is not what I said.”

“And why is it that such a beautiful woman belongs to no one?”

“I’m not married or engaged,” she stated then snapped her mouth shut. She should not have given this seductive man that information. In his hands the knowledge could be dangerous.

“I concluded that, but surely your parents…”

Victoria tilted her chin up. “My parents have recently passed away.”

“I’m sorry,” he apologized, his smile gone.

“Why should you be? You didn’t know them,” she stated, fighting the tears that threatened to fall. Now was not the time to cry, not in front of him, even if she had the desperate desire to feel his strong arms around her.

“The little kitten has claws,” Dorian said intrigued. “I like that.”

She laughed. It was a warm sound that made him want to kiss those rich lips of hers.

“You are trying to make me blush, but it won’t work. I’ve dealt with men like you before.”

It was Dorian’s turn to laugh now. She had never dealt with anyone like him. He was no ordinary man. He was a vampire king.

“Men like me, kitten?” he asked when he had finally gained control of his laughter.

“Yes,” she said with a nod, her irritation growing. He had laughed at her. Did he think she was a young naïve chit who knew nothing of men and their ways?

“You are the rakish type whose only talent is seducing innocent girls.”

“That is not my only talent. Although I must admit,” his smile turned devilish, “it is one of my favorites.” He took a step forward. “Tell me your name, sweetheart,” his voice was bewitching, smooth, and elegant.

Her name? Her name? Her mind was a whirlwind of sinful images, tender caresses, and feather light kisses. Her name? How could she have forgotten her name?

Dorian chuckled at her confusion. She looked so sweet, her emerald eyes glazed over with passion. Her lips parted and moist, and he took another step.

“Please, a name, my lady,” he begged, moving closer.

“My name?” she asked herself. “I–My–” She shook her head, clearing it of its sinful haze and announced, at long last, “Victoria Kingston.”

“Victoria,” he repeated with a nod. “A gorgeous name, it suits you well.” Another step, now they stood a breath apart. He could feel the heat from her body; her rapid heartbeat was music to his ears. This woman was a treat and it appeared that he would no longer need to amuse himself with gypsies and vampire whores. His policy was to not bed women who were members of fickle court life but he was more than willing to make an exception for this girl. She was a delicacy and everyone deserved a little indulgence once in a while.

Victoria backed away; she could not allow herself to be so close to him. He was a libertine and she could not afford to be seduced.

She cleared her throat and opened her mouth to speak, but before she could say a word, he announced, “I am Dorian Vlakhos.”

Her eyes flew wide. This was the man about whom Lady Wisten had warned her. This was the prince who had caused such a stir. Now she understood why the women were fawning over him. He was everything he was said to be, a devilishly handsome man with who had seduction on his mind and she was out on the terrace alone with the rake. He could ruin her. He could tarnish her good name. Panic began to flutter in her belly.

“Well, Your Royal Highness–”

“Call me Dorian.”

“Your Royal Highness–”

“It’s much less of a mouthful to say.”

“Prince Dorian–”

“As you please,” he said with a shrug.

“Your Royal Highness,” she snapped. “I really must be getting back to the party. My friend is waiting.” She moved to step around him, but he caught her arm and pulled her back.

“Not yet.”

Victoria sighed in exasperation. “Prince Dorian, I have no desire to become another one of your conquests for this season.”

“I just want us to become better acquainted,” Dorian stated. “And we will,” he added with a raised brow.

“No,” she declared, yanking her arm back. “We won’t.” She turned on her heel and stormed back into the house.

Dorian watched her with a smile on his face. He could not remember the last time he had smiled and this girl had him smiling like a fool. He fought the urge to go after her, pull her back outside, and into the shadows where he could make good his promise.

Victoria Kingston was going to be a tough skirt to catch, but he was not a man who backed down from a challenge, especially not when the reward was so sweet.

WIP Wednesday – Her Wicked Angel (Her Angel Romance Series Book 6) and More

Since I don’t have a cover for the next Her Angel romance series book, I thought I would use one of my warning signs I often post on my Facebook page.

I’ve been a busy writer, but unfortunately so much of my time has been spent on non-writing work. I was at London Book Fair from Monday to Wednesday last week, and had a fantastic time meeting the wonderful Mark Lefebvre and Shayna from Kobo Writing Life, and also Patrick from Goodreads, amongst others. I had wanted to write a blog post all about it, but haven’t had a chance to do that yet.

Since getting back from London on Thursday, I’ve been snowed under with work for the Unleash release on May 18th, and it has meant that my work on Her Wicked Angel has fallen to the back burner. It shouldn’t be there, I know that, but I have so much work to do for Unleash. Right now, I’m wondering if it’s really worth all this hassle though. Most of the work is for the virtual book tour. I’ve had hit and miss experiences with virtual tours.

To be honest, I didn’t tour with Her Demonic Angel and that did just as well as Bewitch, which I did tour with. I’m not sure I get anything out of virtual tours now, other than headaches and stressful schedules. I get just as much exposure from reviews and my fabulous hard-working mistresses on my street team.

Tours can take up a lot of time – probably as long as it takes me to write a novella and edit it. I think I figured out once that if I toured with each book I released in a year (say 4 novels), then I could write, edit and complete a fifth novel in the time I spent working on tour posts, sending out prizes, arranging everything, etc. I’d rather write another novel, and I think you would probably like that too.

Her Wicked Angel has made it past the planning stage though. I have all the character biographies in place, and the outline is complete at around 13000 words. I just need to write it now. It’s going to be a challenge. Asmodeus isn’t going to be a very easy hero to write. If you’ve read Her Demonic Angel, then you’ll know why. He’s 99% pure evil, with a seed of good in him. It’s going to be difficult to write him well in the beginning and capture just how complex and complicated he is. There is good in him, but it’s buried deep, and for a good reason. It wouldn’t do to have demon minions and others living in Hell realising that you’ve got a softer side underneath that cruel exterior.

I think his heroine, Liora, can help him grow and overcome his upbringing to become a much better angel. She’s strong and feisty, and she’ll bring the guy to his knees. Both of them are going to be fun to write. I’ve written some bad bad men in the past, and it’s fun getting them in touch with their softer sides and making them realise there’s some good in them, and there’s nothing they can do about that.

If you want to know who else is in this book… well, I think the gang is all there! We have Serenity and Apollyon in it for quite a lot of the book, and Veiron and Erin lend a hand, and Taylor and Einar are there, together with Marcus and Amelia. Even Lukas will make an appearance in this one. It’s a huge get together, and I think it will be nice writing Lukas again. Readers missed him in Her Demonic Angel.

Hopefully, in my next WIP Wednesday post, I will be able to tell you that I’ve begun writing Her Wicked Angel and I’m racing through it and on target!

Teaseday – Unleash (Vampire Erotic Theatre Romance Series Book 6) Teaser Excerpt

Today’s tease comes from the book Unleash, which is the sixth book in my popular Vampire Erotic Theatre romance series and is due for release on May 18th.

Subscribers to my mailing list will be able to read the first FIVE CHAPTERS of UNLEASH before everyone, plus with each chapter I send out from April 30th, I’ll also be giving away a signed copy of the book! You can join my mailing list at: http://www.felicityheaton.co.uk/newsletter.php

This scene takes place near the beginning of the book, while Snow is still deep in the bloodlust that seized him at the end of the previous book, and he has a secret visitor who is hidden from the eyes of everyone, including him.

Snow turned savage, the change between placid and violent swift and startling. The chains rattled and then groaned under the pressure of his harsh movements on the bed. He tugged at them, powerful body bowing off the mattress and his muscles bunching and tightening as he fought the restraints that kept him flat on his back. Helpless.

The cuffs bit into his ankles and wrists, and his flesh seeped droplets of blood that the thick restraints then smeared across his skin, renewing the stains. He snarled and fought, lashing out with his fists and feet, shaking the whole bed. The metal sliced deeper into his wrists, until rivulets spilled down his bloodied arms and soaked into the black sheets. Crimson tainted the overlong strands of his white hair and stained his shoulders and neck too. His eyes rolled open and then back again, a flash of scarlet irises and thin black vertical slits for pupils.

They had been red since the night he had first stirred after the incident on the stage, a sign that his bloodlust still had a strong hold over him.

They were red even when he was unconscious.

His lips parted, revealing enormous fangs.

She pitied him even as she despised him.

Her feelings had never been as muddled as they were now.

He sniffed and suddenly stilled, and a prickle of awareness ran down her spine. He had sensed her. How?

He bellowed in fury and thrashed violently against his restraints, causing the metal post that secured his left ankle to bend slightly. Fresh blood ran over his ankles, coating the steel cuffs. He fought harder and it pained her because she knew that after this time he would fall unconscious.

She should leave.

Her place wasn’t here.

She knew that in her heart, but that same heart had urged her to come to him when she had felt his pain and his distress. Now that she had seen how fiercely the bloodlust gripped him, she couldn’t turn her back on him. She needed to do something to help him.

She could calm him, but if anyone discovered what she had done, she would have damned herself.

She edged closer to him, her heart thumping crazily in her breast, her gaze locked on him and watching for an attack even though she knew he couldn’t break his bonds and reach her. He tried to lunge for her, his blunt claws scratching at the air. His red eyes shot to her, focused and sharp, locked on her like lasers.

Her stomach fluttered but her step didn’t falter.

She swallowed her trembling heart and reached out to him, afraid that he would somehow manage to injure her but strengthened by the knowledge that she might be able to do something to crack the hold his bloodlust had on him and guide him back to his loved ones.

She stopped at his side and dared to lift her cloak so he could see her, hoping it would calm him and he would see she wasn’t a threat to him. She gently lowered her hand, intending to touch his face as the female, Sera, and his brother had.

Snow snapped at her fingers and tried to bite her, his sharp fangs gleaming in the low light from the lamps around the black room.

She changed course and settled her hand on his bare chest instead. His powerful heart thundered hard against her palm. A heavy tribal beat.

It accelerated as she stood over him and then she shifted her eyes to meet his and it began to slow to a more gentle sedate rhythm.

He blinked slowly, long dark lashes shuttering his crimson eyes before lifting again to reveal them to her.

She whispered to him, soft words in a tongue that was probably foreign to him now.

A song to soothe him.

Unleash

Felicity Heaton

A powerful vampire lost deep in his bloodlust, Snow is a savage animal, mindless with rage and a thirst for violence, and trapped with no hope of awakening from an endless nightmare… until a song draws him up from the abyss, restoring his sanity but leaving him haunted by the sweet feminine scent of lilies and snow, and fragmented familiar lyrics.

When the mysterious and beautiful songstress reappears in Snow’s room at Vampirerotique, she awakens a fierce protective streak and stirs dark desires that drive him to claim her as his female, even when he knows his touch will destroy her innocence.

A single forbidden taste is all it takes to unleash emotions in Aurora that she shouldn’t possess, tearing her between duty and desire, and luring her into surrendering to her wildfire passion and embracing hungers that burn so hotly they threaten to consume them both.

One act of kindness can lead to one thousand acts of sin though, each a black mark against the bearer’s soul and another grain of sand that slips through an hourglass. The clock is ticking and time is almost up. Can beauty save the beast?

Due for Release: 18th May 2013!

Sensual Sunday – Sexy snippet of Snow in Unleash (Vampire Erotic Theatre book 6)

Sensual Sunday is brought to you today by Unleash, which is the sixth book in my popular Vampire Erotic Theatre romance series and is due for release on May 18th.

Sensual Sunday’s always feature a hot excerpt from one of my paranormal romance books! Read on for this Sunday’s sensual snippet…

Snow slipped off the bed and walked past her, so close that she could sense his power as a hot shiver down her spine and she ached for him to brush against her.

She looked over her shoulder, gaze following him. He reached his wardrobe and began to strip off. Slowly.

Aurora had the distinct impression that he was doing it on purpose, drawing out his undressing because he liked the feel of her gaze on him, watching as he slowly unbuttoned his black shirt and revealed inch after inch of delicious pale skin stretched tight over powerful defined muscles.

The ache started again, hot and fierce, making her belly flutter.

He tossed his shirt onto the laundry basket in the corner and then tackled his jeans. Aurora told herself to look away but failed to follow the order when he pushed his jeans down, revealing his black underwear and long toned legs.

A blush heated her cheeks.

Snow glanced over at her and she swore a wicked smile tilted his lips before he turned his face away. He was enjoying tempting her. Perhaps her master was right and he was evil after all, but it was a strange sort of evil, a sinful and sexy sort.

He finally dropped his jeans on top of his shirt in the basket and crossed the room, slowly stalking towards her, his gait that of a predator hunting prey.

She had no chance to stifle the blush that covered the full length of her body this time, burning through her blood. She wet her lips, trembling all over, stomach fluttering as she stared into his eyes, caught by them and unable to escape.

Snippet Saturday – Try a Little Tenderness – Sexy excerpt from Ascension (witch / demon romance book)

It’s time for Snippet Saturday! Each week has a theme or is author’s choice. This week the theme is Author’s Choice.

This week my snippet comes from Ascension, which a stand alone paranormal romance book / urban fantasy romance.

It’s a shorter snippet again this week. This scene takes place right at the start of the novel, when Lealandra, a powerful witch, has come back to her ex-boyfriend, Taig, a half-demon with issues, to ask for his help… and well… maybe kiss him again.

Taig closed his eyes and released a long low groan of unexpected pleasure as Lealandra’s warm mouth fused with his. Her tongue slid between his lips, a delicious and familiar hot velvet caress that swept across his teeth and drew another hungry moan from him. Without considering the consequences and forgetting his anger, he twisted her long black hair around his fingers and tethered her to him so this breathtaking fantasy wouldn’t end before he wanted, and he wanted it to go on forever.

He tilted his head and pressed harder against her mouth, his tongue brushing hers, delving in deep to taste her. A shiver of desire and need shot through him, and his breathing turned rough as he reacquainted himself with her sweetness and warmth. He hadn’t imagined things turning out this way when she had walked into the bar tonight, but he wasn’t about to push her away now that she was kissing him again, rekindling passion whose embers had burned deep in his heart all the time they had been apart. She moved against him, her lips soft and grazing his, slowing the kiss until he wanted to groan and pull her against him, wanted to thrust his tongue back into her mouth and show her just how ravenous she made him. It coiled tight in his gut, pushing for control, urging him to act on his desire.

All too soon, her lips left his but she remained close. With a soft puff of air into his mouth, she spoke.

“Are they gone?” Her quiet voice trembled along with her body, telling him that the kiss hadn’t only affected him. His heart pounded for more and his blood rushed through his ears, dampening his awareness of their surroundings.

Taig glanced around the dim emptying bar. The two men were gone. He stared into her eyes, refreshing his memory of every fleck of silver against stormy grey. It had been too long since he had seen her, and felt even longer since he had kissed her. A tortuous length of time and an absence he couldn’t easily forgive, even when her kiss made him forget it.

“Not yet,” he whispered the lie against her lips, a split-second before his mouth claimed hers, dominant now that he was ready for the kiss. Desire became a raging inferno within him, burning away the anger that blazed back into life whenever he had a moment to think. This kiss was the only thing that mattered right now.

This time, Lealandra loosed a deep breathy moan. The sound sent his blood rushing ahead of his thoughts. He hardened instantly against his tight black jeans and wrapped his fingers around the nape of her neck, pressing them in and dragging her closer still. The heat of her kiss reawakened lost passion and a need for her that could never die. Six years of separation disappeared in an instant, erased by the fact that she had finally walked back into his life. He wasn’t going to let her go this time. Even if this kiss was only a decoy, it still meant something to them both. He knew it did.

Her fingertips grazed his neck and pushed into the shorter black hair at the back of his head. He groaned internally at the feel of her nails against his scalp, declaring her growing hunger, and furrowed his brow as he brought his hand forward to claim her jaw, holding her in place. He burned at the feel of her soft satin skin beneath his fingers. Her touch was still electric, sending waves of hot sparks dancing along every nerve in his body, bringing his cold flesh to life. Tilting her head back, he thrust his tongue into her mouth and slid his free hand around her waist at the same time, pulling her so close to him that her breasts pushed against his chest with each gasping breath she drew. He eased his hand lower and caressed the patch of bare warm skin between the bottom of her short black strapless corset top and the waist of her long black skirt. Lealandra tensed. Too fast.

Taig braced for impact.

The flat of her hand slammed against his chest, forcing him backwards in the curved padded seat of the booth and tearing her from his grasp. Her gelid gaze stopped him dead.

“They’re gone, aren’t they?” Lealandra’s tone was pure venom that matched the ice in her pale grey eyes.

Taig held his hands up, surrendering with a seductive smile that confessed every sin he had been considering.

Guest Post – Alexandra Anthony introduces her new vampire romance book Tempted

I have a new guest blogger this week. Alexandra Anthony is at my blog to introduce you all to her new vampire romance book, Tempted!

Here’s more about the book, and a juicy excerpt…

Tempted

by Alexandra Anthony

When personal assistant Savannah Wood lands a dream job with up and coming rock star Nick Hart, it seems too good to be true. He’s devastatingly handsome, reserved and charming…but he has a secret he’s determined to keep.

Their attraction to one another is immediate and Savannah is determined to keep a professional relationship between them. She’s been burned before and has no desire to reopen old wounds.

The lines between professional and personal begin to blur when Savannah finds out Nick’s secret: he’s a century old vampire with a painful past. He’s also hesitant to open himself up to her, yet they find their temptation to one another is stronger than either can resist.

The paparazzi, a string of murders and cryptic, ominous letters threaten their budding relationship. Will their attraction and love be enough to keep them together…or will it tear them apart?

*This is an erotic, romantic book. It contains sexy vampires, graphic language, adult content and situations that aren’t for the faint of heart. Consider yourself warned.*

Excerpt

Rain dripped from his raven black hair to run in rivulets down the sharp planes of his handsome face.  His dark eyes were luminous, glowing with passion as he stood before me, both hands bracing the doorframe.

“Nick…” I whispered.  I took a shaky step backwards as he strode across the threshold forcefully and took my face in his hands.  Our eyes met for the briefest of moments before he lowered his head to capture my lips in a toe-curling kiss, his tongue searching the contours of my mouth.  Much too soon he pulled away, his teeth tugging at my lower lip.  His fingers stroked down the length of my neck, cold and wet against my skin.  My body trembled in response and when I raised my hands to embrace him, he stopped me and held them in his firm grip.

“I told myself I wouldn’t do this, Savannah.  I know I promised to give you your space and that I’d be patient.  You can see how well that worked.  So here I am, standing here in front of you.  I wanted it to be different…I wanted to do this right.”  He closed his eyes and breathed deeply.  He dragged me closer until I was pressed against the solid wall of his chest, soaking my t-shirt with rainwater.  “But I can’t do this anymore.  I can’t lie to myself and pretend I’m all right with just being friends.  I fucking want you.”

His words ignited a fire deep within me, stroking the slow simmer that had been building all week.  When he continued, his voice was husky.  “I don’t want to talk and I don’t want to think if it’s right or wrong.  I’ll deal with the fallout tomorrow, but now…now I want you more than I can put into words.”

His hands released mine and he cradled my face in his hands.  His soft mouth whispered over my lips and the curve of my jaw.  Powerless to think clearly, I simply lost myself in him and the emotion he’d unleashed inside of me.  He made me feel cherished and desired, as if I was the only woman alive.  Keeping myself emotionally unavailable had its drawbacks and I was almost desperate to feel connected to him.  Unable to hold back when his lips tentatively covered mine again, I responded shamelessly.  I slowly traced the outline of his lips with the tip of my tongue.  His body reacted immediately to my unexpected reaction, the front of his rain sodden pants bulging.

“You’re soaked,” I brushed his wet hair back from his forehead.  My eyes followed every line on his face, over his cheekbones and his full lips.  As I studied him, I wondered fleetingly if once we made love, the attraction would be gone.  Maybe I could fuck him out of my mind.

If only it was that easy, Savannah.

The corner of his mouth twitched.  His head tipped back under my touch and the weight of my stare, baring his long neck to me.  “Then you should undress me, love.”

Drawing in an unsteady breath, my hands didn’t waver as I swiftly unzipped his pants and flicked open the button of his dress pants.  They fell heavily around his feet in a wet heap as my fingers pushed at his suit jacket, easing it over his broad shoulders.  All that separated us was his dress shirt and my faded t-shirt.

When he swept me into his arms and carried me up the stairs to my bedroom, I didn’t offer any challenge.  He swaggered across the room, laying me across the bed in one fluid motion.  My hooded eyes devoured him as stood before me, roughly tugging off his tie and dropping it carelessly on the bed beside of me.  His agile fingers slid over his dress shirt, each button slowly falling open to reveal a sliver more of his pale chest until it draped open at each side, his rippled abdomen shadowed in the darkness of the room.

“Savannah.  Come here, love.”

My heart was racing as I crawled to the edge of the bed.  Reaching out to him, my hands twisted into each side of his shirt and I tugged him against me.  Our bodies collided and our mouths met impatiently, the fiery caress of his lips searing through me until I was afraid nothing would be left of me but ash.

His hands tangled in my hair our kiss deepened.  He was unrelenting but in control, sexual but sensual.  His taste on my tongue was mindless and drugging, leaving me breathless and longing for more.

Nick eased me back onto the bed, hovering lithely above me.  As his fingers began a provocative path down my neck and over the curve of my breast, my hands slipped under his shirt and dragged down the flexing planes of his back, cupping his tight ass and dragging his hips to mine.  Every inch of our bodies molded tightly together and the air around us seemed to shimmer, growing taut with anticipation.  It seemed we were both longing to explore what we’d denied ourselves of for so long.

My bedroom was suddenly filled with the erotic sounds of deep wet, open-mouthed kisses and wanton moans.  Our tongues teased and tangled together until I was in desperate need of air.  Nick slowly kissed back up my jaw to my ear as he grasped the nape of my neck.

“I’m not going to lie.  I’ve wanted this since the first moment I saw you,” Nick rasped against my ear.  His tongue licked over the shell, causing a shiver to run down my spine.  “I couldn’t take my eyes off of you.”

His voice and sensual words caused my head to arch back into the bed.  “I wanted it too.  More than anything,” I whispered softly.  My fingers combed through his damp hair, his delicious spicy scent overpowering me.

Swallowing back a strangled groan, he pulled away and shrugged out of his shirt.  My trembling fingers stroked over his sculpted chest and down the flexing muscle of his arm, absently tracing over the large tattoo on his upper bicep.  I finally let them drift over each raised ridge of his stomach, my hands continuing their unhurried exploration.  He was flawlessly beautiful.  His pale body was long, hard and powerful.  He was more perfect than I ever could have imagined.
