Teaseday – Ascension – Paranormal Romance Novel Excerpt
Today’s tease comes from the book Ascension, which is one of my stand alone paranormal romance novels. Read on for this Tuesday’s tease… where Lealandra, the heroine, must turn to her ex-lover, Taig for help…
“They killed Charlie to weaken you.”
Those six words sent fear into her heart, each an icy spear that froze her to her soul. She hadn’t considered that they had meant to kill Charlie too.
“I thought they’d messed up and got the wrong person. It was dark in the apartment and the shot that killed him came through the window. They could only have seen our silhouettes where we were sitting on the couch.” Her hands shook for a different reason. Panic erased any desire to touch Taig. Was he right? Charlie had been far less powerful than she was and the coven had chosen him as her Counter-Balance for that reason. He had been perfect for the job. His magic had craved the strength of hers. It had absorbed some of her power, making it easier for her to keep control. Without him, she was in danger of her magic consuming her. It was building inside her, growing stronger with every passing second. Soon it would push for control and, if that happened, it would force her to seek out what it wanted most. She shuddered.
Lealandra had seen witches turn. Her own mother had lost herself to her magic. If her father hadn’t been so powerful, none of them would have survived. Who would bring her back if the magic took control? No one at the coven was strong enough. Not even Gregori, the New York City coven’s leader. If the magic seized her, it would take all of them to join forces in order to save her.
Her eyes wandered to Taig. Would he help her? Could he help her? She studied his handsome face, watching the flickers of his thoughts cross his pitch-black eyes. He was as beautiful as she remembered—the kind of gorgeous that could win him any girl he wanted, even her if he tried hard and turned on the charm. She wasn’t strong enough to hold out against him forever. Something would give and it was likely to be her heart. He rubbed a thumb down the line of his defined jaw and then paused, his expression turning pensive.
“The curtains were closed?” he said and she found herself savouring the sound of his deep voice. She had never forgotten how he sounded, with his mixed accent, not quite American but not quite another unknown country either, or some of the things he had husked in her ear during making love with her.
Lealandra nodded. “They’re thin enough to see through when all the lights are on, but we only had the table lamp lit. They could have only seen our heads above the couch back. When they shot Charlie his—”
The memory of seeing her partner’s head blown wide open stole her voice. Her throat closed and she struggled to breathe, clinging to the last shred of calm inside her. There had been so much blood. It had covered the apartment. It had covered her. One second Charlie had been there, the next she had been sitting beside a corpse, still talking as though nothing had happened. It had taken almost a full minute for her senses to fall into order and make her realise that he was dead.
Taig’s large hand covered hers and she jumped and looked up at him through her lashes. The concern in his eyes made the tears in hers tremble on the brink of falling. She placed her other hand over his, completing the tangle, and closed her eyes. Focusing on their hands, she unleashed a fraction of her magic, giving it more rein but still keeping it under tight control, and drew strength from him. His power seeped into her hands and crept up her arms until it suffused her entire body, sending a heady rush through her.
“You’re hungry,” Taig murmured in a voice laden with sensuality.
No denial left her lips. Right now, she was more than hungry. Kissing him had been a mistake. It had given her a taste and made her remember how things had been, and how he had made her feel. Her magic had latched onto those memories and it didn’t want to let go. She held his hand tighter and stole everything that she could from him in an effort to calm herself and restore the balance of power inside her. Taig had once provided her with a substitute before she had found her balance in Charlie.
His own power.
His blood.
“It’ll cost you extra,” Taig said and she realised she was staring at the scars on his forearm.
She took her hands away from his, unwilling to pay the price he was asking for his help, let alone the price he would place on his blood now. What he had once given to her freely would now cost her everything. He would make her pay dearly for it just to spite her, and part of her couldn’t blame him for doing such a thing. She could understand why he would think that she deserved such punishment.
He gently brushed her long dark hair behind her ear, his touch comforting and speaking volumes, telling her that the desire she felt wasn’t one-sided. He was still attracted to her.
“He didn’t look after you properly.”
Lealandra didn’t have an answer to that accusation. Charlie had neglected her need for sustenance through blood. He had thought he had been doing the right thing, when in reality it had been nothing short of torture.
“He said I didn’t need it,” she said in a small voice and then straightened and found her strength. She didn’t want Taig to see her weak. It had been her decision to leave him and go with Charlie and the coven. She had to accept that and the things that had happened. She had to take responsibility and stick to her decision, even when she now felt it had been a terrible mistake. “You know he didn’t believe in that kind of thing. None at the coven do.”
Taig laughed and toyed with the two empty shot glasses. “He was more of a fool than I thought.”
His laughter died in an instant when his eyes locked with hers. Their fathomless black depths sparkled with intensity. Her breath shortened and her palms sweated with anticipation. She subconsciously leaned forwards, eager to be close to him, desiring to feel his hands on her again and have him continue to look at her with such need and hunger.
“I should never have let him take you.” His expression darkened with his frown, his lips compressing into a thin line that conveyed the anger flowing from him and through her.
Lealandra got the better of herself and picked up her own shot of whisky and downed it. The fire as it slipped down into her stomach did nothing to dampen her desire or boost her courage.
“You didn’t have a choice.” She leaned back into the seat with a false smile that covered her fear and her feelings.
He shifted forward and stared into the far reaches of her soul. His eyes lightened. The black melted to reveal a red inferno that flickered and licked around the wide chasm of his pupils. She drew a deep steadying breath, refusing to let him fluster her.
“Believe me,” Taig said on a sneer, “if I’d decided not to let him take you, he wouldn’t have. He would’ve died a lot sooner.”
That was no idle threat. A sweep of pin-pricks chased across her back and down her arms, and a wave of fury swept over her, so intense that her magic retreated, bowing to Taig’s superior force of nature. As powerful as she was, she was no match for him when he was angry.
Taig rarely let his demonic side come out to play and she had only witnessed the gruesome aftermath when he had, but it had given her a glimpse of the devastation of which he was capable.
Lealandra didn’t need to see the true form he held locked beneath his skin for her to know that any decision he made was final and he was willing to resort to bloodshed to ensure that.
It was half the reason she had come to him.
The other half?
Lealandra looked down at her chest and the intricate mark between her breasts visible only to her. A circle within a circle about the size of her palm. Runic symbols filled the two black bands around the outside. Within the central circle were a series of patterns that marked her fate and the role specific things had to play in it. A little off centre within this circle was a mark she recognised. Her gaze drifted to Taig’s shoulder. Hidden beneath his black shirt on his left shoulder blade was the same mark. It wasn’t a tattoo. It was a brand of his demonic bloodline. A birthmark.
“So… you lost your partner and now some demons are out to kill you but you won’t pay the price for protection. You’ve got to have a pretty good reason for hunting me down if you’d already made up your mind to refuse my fee.” The cocky smirk was back, tugging at the dusky lips that knew her intimately, every inch of her.
Finger-length strands of his black hair criss-crossed his forehead, messy and seemingly out of control as always. The feel of the short back had been like silk beneath her fingers, bringing forth memories of raking her fingers through it, of clutching it tightly to keep his mouth fused with hers. His dark eyes narrowed on hers and his smile widened. Her heart thumped in her throat at that look—all hunger and need. He hadn’t changed a bit since she had last seen him. Still so handsome that he would never have a problem catching a girl with his otherworldly masculine beauty but still a loner who refused the company women offered him. Still a negotiator gunning for the right price before he would do anything but still itching for a fight so badly he would gladly hunt demons for sheer fun.
“I think I’d like to know that reason now.”
Before she had come out tonight, she had vowed to keep this hidden from him but now it might just be her trump card.
Taking hold of his hand, Lealandra ignored his raised eyebrow and moved towards him on the curved leather seat so she was within reach. She took a deep breath, held it and brushed his fingers across her chest. The mark there shimmered rich red and sparkled into life. The glow lit his face, dancing in his wide eyes.
“You’ve started the ascension,” Taig whispered with the barest glance into her eyes before his gaze fell to her chest again.

A witch on the verge of achieving phenomenal power, Lealandra must turn to her half-breed demon ex-lover Taig for protection from the dark force that is after her and also from her own magic.
With her Counter-Balance dead and her coven against her, Taig’s blood and power is the only thing that can help her control her magic and survive the ascension and gain the strength to defeat her enemy.
Old feelings come flooding back as Taig allows her into his world and Lealandra finds herself fighting not only for survival but to win his broken heart again and heal the pain in their past. Can he forgive her for walking out on him all those years ago and will he ever believe her when she tells him that he’s not a monster but the man that she loves?

From the shadows, he emerged. He stalked towards her across the golden gravel, slow and purposeful, his gaze intent on her from behind his black mask, as though she was his prey. His focus on her intensified and her instincts blared in alarm, telling her that she was in danger.
She was, but it wasn’t danger of him hurting her, but rather danger of her losing her mind and surrendering to him and her desire to chase a moment of bliss and seek her own happiness for a change.
He didn’t want to harm her.
He just wanted her.
It was exciting, and wrong of her.
Forbidden.
Sophis didn’t see him coming. One moment he was over ten feet away and the next she was in his arms, pulled flush against the hard planes of his body, bent backwards in his arms as he kissed her with gentle force, stealing all reason from her mind. She clutched his shoulders, drawing the black material of his jacket into her fists, and moaned as he claimed his prize, his kiss turning fierce and dominant, so passionate that she could barely keep up with the rough motion of his lips against hers.
He was breathing hard when he drew back enough that she could see his face. The fire in his dark eyes as he raked them over her, settling them on her neck and then her mouth before bringing them back to meet hers, stole her ability to breathe and she could only stare up at him, lost and waiting, hungry for more.
“We really should talk,” he whispered in Russian. “We shouldn’t do this.”
His gaze dropped to her mouth again and he slowly inched towards her, as though giving her a chance to stop things from happening between them. She knew that she should but she couldn’t bring herself to do it. The attraction to him, the need to feel his hands on her flesh and his mouth on hers, was too fierce to ignore.
Sophis craned her neck and claimed his lips. They parted and he slanted his head and delved his tongue into her mouth. She met it with hers, tangling them together and savouring the taste of his kiss. His grip on her waist tightened, his fingers pressing in so hard that she was sure he might bruise her, but she didn’t care. His other hand grasped the nape of her neck, tugging strands of her long brown hair free as he twisted his fingers in them, trapping her in his arms. She moaned and surrendered to him, and his response was to devour her mouth in a way that set her on fire inside, turning her blood to flame and her will to resist to ashes.
He lifted her off the ground, laid her down on the cold stone bench, and covered her body with his, pinning her with it as he roughly kissed her. The hand against the back of her head shifted and he grabbed her hair, tugged her head back and devoured her neck with hard passionate kisses. Sophis couldn’t contain the moan that bubbled up her throat in response. It came out harsh, full of hunger and need. She hadn’t been with a man in so long, not since becoming a vampire, and was eager to know how different it would feel. He was so rough with her, driving her to give up her restraint and become wild like him, to enjoy the moment and the passion burning between them.
She did.
Sophis snaked one arm around the back of his head as he kissed down her neck and across her chest, and curled her hand over the top of his head. She tangled her fingers in the longer lengths of his dark hair and held him to her as she arched into him, eager for more. Every kiss he placed on the curves of her breasts tantalised her, sending hot waves rushing deep into her core. They gathered in the pit of her stomach, heating it through and tightening it, and threatening to steal control. His hands left her side and her head and she gasped as he tugged the corset of her dress down, exposing her breasts to the cold air. His mouth claimed one nipple, tugging the pearl into its moisture, and his hand covered the other. She bit her lip, screwed her eyes shut and moaned as a flood of desire crashed through her. Her moan became a growl of pleasure when he rolled her nipple between his teeth and then gave a teasing bite, sending sparks shooting outwards in all directions. His answering growl rumbled against her and she quivered, her hunger for him bordering on desperation.
She was going to wake up feeling like a fool tomorrow night but she didn’t care. She wanted this and she wanted him, needed this moment of mad pleasure, and she was going to have him.
Her gloves made the task she set her mind to difficult but it didn’t take her long to undo and discard the belt that held his sword and to pop each button on his black jacket. When she reached the last button near his groin and it gave under her fingers, she moved her hand forwards, cupping the hard length in his trousers. He groaned against her breasts and kissed across them, shifting to the other one. She didn’t realise where his hand had gone until it was against the apex of her thighs beneath her layers of skirt, cupping her through her underwear. Her eyes shot wide open and she stared at the moon, dizzy with the feel of him palming her. She swallowed and shuddered, wanting nothing more than to lay on the bench beneath him and let him do as he pleased with her, but driven by her need to touch him in return.
He drew away from her breasts when she started on his white dress shirt and watched her fingers, his black mask obscuring his expression. She couldn’t tell if he was angry or fascinated as his eyes narrowed. When the last of the buttons gave way and the two sides of his shirt fell open to reveal the delicious taut muscles of his torso, she slowed down, filled with a sudden urge to savour the delicacy before her. He groaned and trembled when she smoothed her palms out against his broad chest, the feel of the rock hard muscles beneath her fingers almost too much for her to bear. She forced herself to continue and lightly swept her fingertips over the edges of his pectorals to the pronounced ridges of his abdomen.
“Devil, I love the feel of your gloves on me,” he murmured in Russian, his rough voice music to her ears, sensual and seductive.
Sophis smiled up at him as his eyes met hers. They widened when she let her claws extend and ran them over his chest. He groaned again and bucked against her, driving his hips against the hand that still pressed into her groin. She shivered and bit her lip as the scent of his blood hit her. He stared at her, following her hand as she drew it away from him and brought it to her lips. His pupils dilated and his lips parted when she inhaled the scent of his blood on her claws and gloves, and the desire in his eyes empowered her.
She propped herself up on one elbow and touched his chest again, following close to one of the scratches, tracking the rivulet of blood that had run down his chest towards his abdomen. The droplet ran over the curve of his pectoral and onto the hard slab of his stomach and she glanced up at him to find him watching her, his lips still parted, the beautiful look of anticipation and need on his face too much to ignore. She craned her neck, poked her tongue out, and licked up the length of one of the cuts.
His growl reverberated through her, so low and harsh that it called to her instincts and urged her to feed. He liked it.
He leaned back, kneeling between her parted thighs, and clutched her to his chest as she licked each cut and sucked occasionally to steal a drop of blood. He tasted so good. Strong blood. Older than her.
“Wicked,” he whispered and caught one of her hands, brought it up to his mouth and sucked her fingers.
Sophis licked another cut, feeling every bit as wicked as he had declared her to be, and loving it. She closed her eyes and breathed him in, and frowned when a flicker of familiarity lit up inside her.
Did she know him?
She pulled back to look at his face so she could see if she did, but he didn’t give her the chance. He kissed her again, fierce and hungry, his mouth rough against hers. Their masks knocked together and she wanted to throw hers aside and push his away, wanted them to know each other now before things went too far. He caught her wrist when she reached for his mask, pushed her down on the bench and pinned her arm above her head. He kissed away her desire to reveal who he was and she lost herself again as she sucked on his lower lip and nipped it, drawing a little blood. He groaned and ground against her, his weight shifting to press down on her wrist.
Her eyes went wide when he ran his hand up under her skirt, muttering something about the feel of her stockings, and paused on her thigh.
A wicked smile tugged at his kiss-swollen lips and he looked down.
Sophis tried to think of something to say that would explain why she had three throwing knives strapped to each of her thighs but failed.
He ran his fingers over each small steel blade in turn and she thought he would remove them but he didn’t. His hand shifted, claiming her hip beneath her scarlet dress.
“I love a woman who is armed,” he said with another grin and dropped down.

His favourite prey.
Rafe stood on the lawn, his dark eyes following her from room to room in her large house. Shannon disappeared from view on the top floor only to reappear in the living room. He couldn’t see much through the open curtains but his senses made up for what he lacked in vision. He tracked her with them, focusing until the dark world around him drifted into the distance and there was only her.
She was muttering.
A smile tugged at his lips.
How many times had he told her not to mutter?
She reappeared and stood in the middle of the living room, tying her long fair hair up into a ponytail, her gaze on the television. The twinkling lights hanging around the room cast a myriad of colours, turning the scene from warm to cold and back again. She looked pale tonight. Had she been getting enough sleep? They had last worked together two weeks ago and she hadn’t seemed herself. He had tried to ask her what was wrong, but had failed to find his voice, instead leaving her to mull over whatever was bothering her in silence.
Rafe had killed the vampire that night. She hadn’t even noticed it. He’d had to report it to the agency. In a toss up between her being angry with him for telling her superiors about her dangerous lack of concentration and her being safe, the latter would always win with him.
She smiled.
His chest ached.
He hadn’t seen her smile in a long time. He stood in silence, unmoving, absorbing this rare beauty before him. She was a goddess when she smiled, and it always tugged at his insides, luring him to her. She turned towards the window and her smile slowly faded, her expression turning distant.
What was she thinking in there?
She couldn’t see him. Human eyes weren’t sharp enough to pick him out in the shadows of the tall trees on her lawn. The lights in the room would steal what little night-vision she had. He could observe her from the darkness without fear, could watch her and think over the things that plagued him every night.
The feelings.
During the day, Rafe could almost pretend they didn’t exist. The sun stole the world from him and his emotions with it, leaving him in a deathly slumber. At night, when he came to her, when he saw her again, everything returned, and each time it came back stronger.
He knew that Shannon didn’t like working with him, and the past two years had been difficult for them both at times, especially at the start, but it didn’t stop him from feeling something for her. They had been through so much together, so many fights for their lives, so many long nights passed in quiet company when no demons showed up, and so many long conversations when her guard slipped. When they had first been assigned to each other, he had wanted out of the deal straight away, but now he almost looked forward to the times they were required to work together.
His dead heart called him a liar.
He didn’t almost look forward to it at all. He waited for it. Yearned, in fact.
Rafe sighed and leaned back against the broad rough trunk of the pine tree.
It was no use anyway.
Come the New Year, the agency would separate them and relocate them at opposite ends of the country.
He stared at her. She swept a few rogue strands of golden hair back, tucking them into her messy ponytail, and laughed at something. The light from the television flickered across her face. Rafe smiled at the same time as she did. The sight of her chased the winter chill from his body.
He was going to miss her.
His little vampire hunter.
He had never wanted a partner, but she had changed that. Now, he didn’t want any partner except her.
Shannon smiled again and zipped up her red jumper, until the tall collar of it covered her neck. She pushed shorter lengths of her hair behind her ears and then looked out of the window again, and he felt as though she was looking right at him. She was so beautiful when she was unaware of him. Naturally so too. No trace of make-up touched her oval face. No kohl to highlight the depths of her green eyes, or lipstick to enhance the sensual swell of her coral lips. Everything about her was natural, right down to her curvy shape. He had tended to her wounds a few times before, each time battling his desire as he swept his fingers over her soft skin and laid eyes on the toned body she hid beneath her clothes. She trembled for him sometimes and refused to look at him whenever she did, and he was convinced that her shivers weren’t born of fear. He was convinced that part of her was attracted to him too. Her gaze shifted and settled on something partially obscured by the pale curtains.
He frowned and tried to make out what it was.
Ragged dark shape that tapered upwards. Shiny coloured lights. Glittering orbs. Tufted strings of foil.
A Christmas tree.
It surprised him that she celebrated the occasion. He had thought she would be indifferent to such human things since she was a demon hunter, but there she was, standing in a room bathed in twinkling lights, tinsel and festive trimmings. The entire street was alive with flashing reindeers, singing Santas, and fake snow on roofs. No decoration touched the outside of her two storey home, but it was different on the inside.
Rafe studied her as she adjusted a bauble on the tree. He might have been talking about her. The exterior she showed to him and others was different to how she was on the inside. He knew that best at times like these when he was watching her from the shadows. This was the real her, the one she hid beneath her armour and would never let him see. This was his only way of seeing the side of her that he wished she would show to him, and he couldn’t help himself.
He told himself that it wasn’t stalking. It was observing. It was hunting. It was having the chance to see the woman he wanted her to be around him and taking it.
Shannon moved away from the tree, towards the back of the house, her hips swaying in her snug blue jeans. His gaze slipped to her backside and he growled, desire spearing him in the gut. He loved the way she walked even when she thought no one was watching. There was something sexy about it, alluring. He cocked his head to one side and fought the urge that rose inside him.
It was useless.
She would never be his.
She had looked at him differently sometimes, almost as if he was human, but those moments rarely lasted. The barriers were swift to come back up, protecting her heart before he could reach out and capture it. During their past few hunts, he had struggled with the right words, trying to form them into a semblance of order and put his feelings in a way that she wouldn’t reject outright, in a way that would make her see that his emotions were real and that he would never harm her. He had never found the perfect moment though, or the perfect words.
And time was running out.
The ticking clock made him reckless. It didn’t matter anymore if she rejected him. He couldn’t let the chance slip through his fingers again. It was now or never.
This was their last mission together.
He wouldn’t leave without trying to make her see what he felt for her.
Shannon came out of the back room, her jacket in her left hand, and stopped in front of the Christmas tree again. She touched the same bauble she had before but this time her expression changed, turning troubled and distant. What was on her mind? Rafe had seen that look before, normally when she was lost in her thoughts, like the time he had reported to her superiors. They had told him not to worry about it and that they would speak with her. He wanted to be the one to speak to her about it. He wanted to know why she had joined the agency. She was young, barely over thirty, and she had never mentioned her family. Did her reason for hunting demons have something to do with them? Did it have anything to do with vampires?
He only hunted his own kind because the agency had him by the balls on several murder cases. He was a vampire. All of his species were susceptible to temptation and he was far from saintly. He had fought his addiction though and had come out the other side a better vampire for it. A stronger vampire because of it. He didn’t kill anymore. He could control that side of him now, and maybe it was time he made the agency realise that and made them let him go.
Rafe shook his head at the way he sounded. Childish. Petulant. Everything that a vampire his age shouldn’t be. And why? Because he didn’t want to leave her. He didn’t want to be reassigned to someone else, or sent off to work alone. He wanted to stay here, with Shannon, where he belonged.
She tugged her short black wool jacket on and Rafe knew it was time to make a move. She was expecting him and he had never been late before.
He moved further back into the shadows on her front garden when she approached the window. She didn’t see him. She closed the curtains, hiding her from view, and he resorted to tracking her with his senses again.
A car passed along the street behind him. The sound of carol singers drifted on the chill breeze. Rafe looked up at the crisp night sky and the twinkling stars. Christmas. He couldn’t remember if he had ever celebrated it.
He had forgotten so much about his former life on becoming a vampire.
His gaze dropped and stuck on something on her porch.
Mistletoe.
Rafe raised an eyebrow and then smiled as he left his hiding place and walked towards the front door.
Some traditions he definitely remembered from his life as a human.

Vampire for Christmas
Felicity Heaton
It was one last mission. Shannon, a demon hunter with the agency, is looking forward to leaving behind the small town and the vampire she’s been stuck with for the past two years. Things are getting complicated fast and she wants out. A fresh start, free of her vampire partner, awaits her if she can survive their final mission and the lonely Christmas holidays.
It was one last mission. Rafe, a vampire doing time with the agency, watches it approach with dread weighing heavily in his stomach. Two years of working with Shannon has been difficult, especially since he started falling for her, but he doesn’t want their partnership to end. He has barely a few days to make her face her feelings and stop her from leaving, and he intends to do just that.
When a slimy demon threatens the season of peace and goodwill, it’s the chance Rafe has been waiting for and the moment Shannon secretly fears. Rafe’s determination to prise open her heart and her own resolve to keep it closed clash as violently as they do with the demon, and threatens to end as messily.
Can Rafe make Shannon see that his love for her is real and that she feels something for him too? Can Shannon face her fears and her past, and stop herself from running away from both? Will a wish on a star bring her what her heart truly desires—a vampire for Christmas?

Sensual Sunday – Hot vampire romance novel excerpt from Forbidden Blood
Sensual Sunday is brought to you today by Forbidden Blood, which is one of my stand alone vampire romance novels. Sensual Sunday’s always feature a hot excerpt from one of my paranormal romance books. Read on for this Sunday’s sensual snippet… In this scene, Kearn, the hero, has been sent to another vampire Venator (a type of hunter) to have his blood tested… but it seems he can’t keep his thoughts off the pretty mortal heroine, Amber…
He nodded to Venator Greystone.
She picked up the needle and carefully eased it into the soft flesh on the inside of his elbow. It didn’t hurt. The yellow tube turned deep red and Kearn leaned back.
His focus drifted to Amber and he closed his eyes.
“It will not take long, Lord Savernake.”
That name brought him back to the truck. It grated on his nerves now. He hadn’t been Lord Savernake in over sixty years, and the Venator knew it, so why was she persisting in calling him that. Venator Savernake. That was his only title now, and it was as worthless as her bloodline.
A deep sense of discontent stirred within his heart. It grew as he lost more blood and he began to feel the effects. His defences dropped and his instincts pushed for control but he didn’t allow them to take over. He was strong enough to keep a level head. It was only a small amount of his blood and there was no threat to him. Hunger gnawed at his gut and the memory of Amber’s blood made his own call out to her. He wanted her to come to him, to straddle his lap, and let him sink his fangs into her.
He imagined her above him and it was as though she was there with him. Her hands came to rest against his chest and a smile curved her lips when she glanced at his bound wrists, as though she enjoyed the thought of him being at her mercy. He was. He was a beast at her mercy, tamed by her and longing for her to whisper him a command. He would obey.
She leaned over him and the waves of her long brown hair caressed his bare chest. Her fingers followed suit, tracing the line between his pectorals while she purred her approval of his body. He liked the way she looked too. He tried to reach for her but the cuffs stopped him. Her smile widened and she raised herself, so her face was above his. He tilted his head back to keep his focus on her and she rewarded him with a kiss. Not searing or passionate, but slow and tender. A kiss that fanned the flames within him and his desire for her blood.
Her lips left his and trailed along his jaw and then down his neck. She kissed it, licked it, branded his flesh with her scent until he could barely contain himself, and when he was on the brink of snapping the restraints to get to her, she did the one thing he had never considered in all of this.
She bit him.
Her dull teeth dug into his throat. He bucked his hips against hers and roared. It was divine, turning his blood to fire in his veins until it burned through him, driving him over the edge.
His fangs extended and his eyes switched.
Amber drew back, a trace of blood on her lips. The sight of it fascinated and enthralled him. She had broken the skin. She had tasted him. He groaned and craned his neck to reach her. He wanted to bite her. She had to let him bite her now. It was only fair.
He thrilled and grew hard when she reached around her head and pulled the hair from her neck, holding it back. It was the left side and the cut was still there. A mark made by another man. A mark he would erase.
Kearn growled when she lowered herself, acceptance shining in her hazel eyes. She wanted this. She wanted to be with him forever and she would be.
His lips touched her throat and he lost control. He wrapped them around the cut and then sunk his fangs in. Amber moaned into his ear and her fingers tensed against his chest, nails digging in. He groaned and sucked hard, desperate for her blood and desperate to make her belong to him. She belonged to him.
He wanted to hold her against him but couldn’t get his arms free. The feel of her fingers threading into his hair and holding his mouth against her throat was enough to placate the desire. He fed deep, drawing greedy mouthfuls of her blood and savouring every one. The moment he felt her weaken, he released her neck and licked the cut, carefully sealing it and being gentle so he didn’t hurt her any more. He would never hurt her.
Not now that she was his.
