Let It Be Sunday, 405!
I don’t know about you, but January-February is not my time to shine. Every year around this time, my mood dips and my therapist reminds me that I do not perk up until March. It’s like Groundhog Day, but for seasonal depression. I’m taking my little walks, I’m imagining a version of me that reaches out to friends, I’m watching a lot of feel-good tv. The Hulu gods have smiled upon me and early-released Love Island.

My 10 Best King Cake Recipes
A King Cake recipe for every year I’ve lived in New Orleans – cinnamon-scented, pecan-filled, with yeast or without, super simple to make or deliciously complex. Whether you want your King Cake sweet or savory, your perfect recipe is here. I love dancing in the street every Mardi Gras season but Mardi Gras is also a state of mind. Wherever you find yourself this Carnival season (in the streets of New Orleans with me or not), let there be CAKE.

King Cake-Inspired Easy Bostock
This Bostock toast is a delightful marriage of toast and almond croissant. Toast turns pastry. We’re topping these toasts with orange marmalade and sliced almonds inspired by my favorite almond-filled french King Cake.
It’s Mardi Gras, friends! The big BIG weekend and Fat Tuesday are just days away and who would I be if I didn’t have a fresh King Cake offering for you? Mardi Gras from Houston (where I’ve been spending a majority of my time) is… well, it’s not Mardi Gras save for the King Cake sold at HEB (which – delicious).

Let It Be Sunday, 404!
Ok the truth of the matter is, I still have my Christmas decorations up. It’s embarrassing but the potted tree is still covered in lights and cartoon cutout snowflakes and the windowsills are lined in nearly petrified garland and beads. The task of dismantling the decorations is a small one that has slipped my grasp, like an astronaut drifting off into deep space that happens in every space movie ever. Byeee George Cloooonneeeeyyy.

One-Pot French Onion Chicken Dinner
All the comforts of French onion soup turned into a cozy one-pot dinner. This French Onion Chicken dinner is downright romantic and perfect for this winter weekend spent all cuddled up.
You know every year I trapse in here with a version of Marry Me Chicken that is rumored to be soo good as to inspire a wedding proposal. You also know that… well, I wouldn’t consider myself living proof of such legend which is, by no means, a reflection of the chicken.

Smoked Sausage Jambalaya Buttermilk Biscuits
These mile-high jambalaya buttermilk biscuits are stacked with all the savory flavors of New Orleans’ most comforting rice dish. These tender biscuits are absolutely stacked with Zatarain’s Cajun-Style Smoked Sausage, onions, peppers, and roasted tomatoes. We’re taking big bites of Mardi Gras this year – here’s how!
Friends, we have a bonafide tradition in the works! As most traditions are around here – it’s DELICIOUS. Every Mardi Gras for the last two years, I’ve baked Zatarain’s Smoked Sausage into a heavenly dough heap fit for a carnival celebration – whether we’re dancing in the streets of New Orleans or not.

Let It Be Sunday, 403!
Hey friends! We’re gonna talk about cats. I’ve recently adopted an adult cat buddy named Wylie (that’s my handsomely whiskered man up there) and y’all. What was I doing before this? How did my life not include a cat until now?! I’m almost mad at myself for waiting this long. Part of my casual magical powers include babies and puppies. They just seem to… find me. It’s hard to explain but ask my friends, they’ll vouch for the vibes.

Cowboy Cookies with salted cereal brittle
Former First Lady Laura Bush’s famous recipe for cowboy cookies with a delicious twist: salted cereal brittle! These oatmeal cookies are also packed with cinnamon, chocolate chips and coconut. Saddle up for your new favorite cookie!
There are a handful of things I’ve committed to since my recent half-move to Texas: loving my boyfriend Will (which means lots of adventures on motorcycles), perfecting my kolache recipe (still in the works, the dough must be that of a literal pillow), apparently relearning how to drive a car (because DANG Houston, y’all are wild) and making my own version of a Cowboy Cookies.

New Year, New Orleans
If you can spend a holiday away from home, do it. Christmas on a beach with a cocktail? Yes, please. Santa can bring his swim trunks! This year I decided to ring in the new year in New Orleans, my favorite place outside of Chicago, with my girlfriend Breyon. A bae-cation, if you will.
We stayed in the Bywater, a chill part of New Orleans that lazes by the Mississippi River. It is filled with the best little restaurants, all of them like gems that stud a crown.

Let It Be Sunday, 402!
Hello, friends!
Apologies for going full Pollyanna—especially among our hellscape of a news cycle—but I kinda like the month of January. My parents owned a lamp store for 40 years and it’s where I spent my entire childhood. Business boomed in January, when folks were craving light in their homes after discarding their Christmas trees and staring down several more weeks of winter darkness. So the first month of the year was the best time to be in the store—unlike, say, July, which was a drag—because it was bustling with chatty customers, the brightness inside contrasting with the gloomy weather outside.
